Chapter 158: The Inhumans' City of Attilan
The Kree possessed extremely advanced technology as one of the three great empires of the universe, although not much of it had been showcased in the movies.
Dr. Mar-Vell, as a Starforce soldier, always wore various weapons and equipment. Combined with the Kree's physical prowess, which far exceeded that of Earthlings, she felt very confident in her own strength.
She believed that no matter who this person standing before her was, if she could subdue him or escape from this place, she would have a chance to investigate the situation slowly.
Without hesitation, she instantly activated the pair of gauntlets on her wrists.
As the three oval energy stones on the side of each gauntlet began to glow with increasing intensity, her outer jacket instantly vaporized into nothingness.
A brilliant golden light erupted around her form. In less than ten seconds, the radiance faded away.
Mar-Vell reappeared in an entirely new outfit.
She was now clad in a sleek black, tight-fitting battle suit that covered her entire body from neck to toe.
A prominent large eight-pointed star emblem adorned her chest, making it particularly eye-catching against the dark material.
George immediately recognized the 'Nega-Bands' that Mar-Vell wore on her wrists.
These were among the Kree Empire's highest technological achievements in personal weaponry, on par with Ronan the Accuser's 'Universal Weapon'.
These sophisticated gauntlets could amplify Mar-Vell's mental power, allowing her to absorb various types of cosmic energy, such as solar radiation and Chaos Energy, then convert them into other superhuman abilities.
These included enhanced physical capabilities, sustained flight, devastating photon blasts, and the ability to move freely through the vacuum of space without protection.
This was also the reason she possessed the confidence to strike at George first.
"I have no intention of harming Earth or any life residing here..." Mar-Vell began to explain, but George directly interrupted her mid-sentence.
"Since you've already made your move, let your fists do the talking," George said curtly, cutting Mar-Vell off.
Within the Mirror Dimension, George wasn't worried about causing any environmental damage to the real world.
The two combatants directly exchanged a full-power punch, the impact reverberating through the distorted space. Both fighters retreated exactly two steps from the force of the collision.
"Not bad at all. Now let's see if you can keep up with my real speed," George said calmly, shaking his wrist to dispel the vibrations.
George stomped his foot heavily against the ground, and the entire surface trembled violently beneath the force.
His tall figure tore through the air like a missile, creating powerful airflow in his wake.
In what felt like almost a single breath, he had already closed the distance to Mar-Vell.
His right fist, now completely enveloped in crackling energy, struck downward with devastating force. No fancy techniques, just pure, overwhelming power.
Mar-Vell immediately felt that George had significantly increased both his strength and speed compared to their initial exchange.
"So incredibly fast..." she thought with growing alarm.
Even with her mentally enhanced reflexes and perception, Mar-Vell could barely keep up with George's lightning-fast movements.
Feeling the tremendous force rushing toward her like an unstoppable tide, Mar-Vell immediately discarded her previous attitude toward this unknown opponent.
As a highly trained Starforce soldier of the mighty Kree Empire, and possessing the Kree's most advanced Quantum Nega-Bands technology, she was certainly no slouch in combat herself.
Mar-Vell fully activated the stored energy within her gauntlets, crossing both arms defensively to shield her chest and vital organs.
"I refuse to believe you possess that much raw strength!" This thought flashed through Mar-Vell's mind in that critical moment.
Unfortunately for her, she had severely underestimated both George's speed and his determination.
Bang!
With the first devastating punch, the protective energy released by the Nega-Bands perfectly enveloped Mar-Vell's entire body in a shimmering barrier.
The pure kinetic impact caused her no immediate harm whatsoever.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
But George's assault speed became faster and faster with each successive strike.
First, hairline cracks appeared across the energy shield's surface. Then the barrier shattered completely like fragile glass.
A crisp, sickening sound of bone cracking echoed from her defensive arm.
By the time George finally ceased his barrage of punches, Mar-Vell had already collapsed unconscious on the ground.
Mar-Vell had relied too heavily on the technological advantages of her Nega-Bands.
When it came to pure energy clashes and raw power contests, George had never feared anyone, not even cosmic-level opponents.
The crucial weakness in her strategy was that the energy-absorbing function of those supposedly advanced Nega-Bands had not been properly utilized during their fight.
George's unique Chaos Energy simply was not within their programmed absorption parameters.
Seeing Mar-Vell lying unconscious on the distorted ground, George first carefully removed the sophisticated gauntlets from her hands.
As soon as the Nega-Bands were separated from her body, Mar-Vell instantly returned to her original civilian attire.
George could sense through his enhanced perception that Mar-Vell's mental power had dropped dramatically, now reaching only about twice that of an ordinary human, still far below George's own level.
George placed his hand gently on Mar-Vell's head, and his mental power slowly probed into the depths of her mind, beginning the delicate process of modifying her recent memories.
Ten minutes later, George had not only completely erased all of Mar-Vell's memories related to their encounter and his existence, but he had also crafted a convincing alternative narrative.
George then used his time-reversal ability to thoroughly understand exactly how these advanced gauntlets operated on both a technological and quantum level.
Taking the Nega-Bands in his hands, George began to employ his alchemical abilities to make subtle but crucial modifications to their internal systems.
Due to time constraints and the need for stealth, George only installed a single energy circuit disruption device inside each gauntlet.
If Mar-Vell were ever to fight George again in the future, he would be able to remotely interfere with the energy circuit, temporarily rendering the Quantum Nega-Bands completely useless.
After carefully putting the now-modified gauntlets back onto Mar-Vell's unconscious form, George lifted her and carried her to a secluded corner of the area.
He then departed directly, leaving no trace of his presence behind.
When Mar-Vell eventually woke up, she would only remember consuming large quantities of alcohol and having no clear recollection of anything that happened afterward.
George had even deliberately sprinkled some particularly strong-smelling liquor on her clothes to reinforce the false memory.
George never seriously considered directly killing Mar-Vell outright.
After all, if the original timeline remained relatively unchanged, Project Pegasus would ultimately succeed in its goals.
George still wanted to observe whether the revolutionary super engine she was developing might prove more efficient than his own existing propulsion systems.
As for the eventual emergence of Captain Marvel and her cosmic-level powers, it wouldn't particularly matter whether she existed or not by the time George's own plans came to fruition.
He simply didn't consider her a significant factor either way.
George did not return to his castle base but instead flew directly into the vast emptiness of space.
This was because during his mental probe, George had discovered a specific set of coordinates stored in Mar-Vell's mind, the exact location where her Kree Empire warship was currently docked and waiting.
George approached the vessel with complete stealth, using his advanced abilities to remain undetected.
He then directly entered the sophisticated spaceship through instantaneous teleportation.
Since he had already obtained the complete access code for the ship's AI system from Mar-Vell's memories, George wasn't worried about triggering any security alarms or defensive protocols.
Soon, George had successfully connected the Star Network device on his wrist to the ship's central computer, downloading massive amounts of data from this advanced Kree cruiser.
This included the comprehensive star map that George had wanted most, detailed navigational charts of known space.
After implanting a sophisticated backdoor program into the ship's monitoring system for future access, George quietly exited the warship without leaving any evidence of his infiltration.
Now floating invisibly in the cold vacuum of space, George turned his calculating gaze toward Earth's pale moon hanging in the darkness.
George had certainly not forgotten that there was still an ancient Inhumans city located somewhere on the lunar surface, the legendary city of Attilan.
Many millennia ago, the powerful Kree and the shapeshifting Skrull had been locked in a devastating interstellar war.
During this conflict, the Kree had discovered humans, a species of remarkable spiritual beings with extraordinary genetic modification potential, living in the contested area between the two mighty empires on the planet Earth.
Recognizing an opportunity, the Kree began conducting extensive experiments on human subjects, attempting to create a superhuman army capable of fighting against the technologically enhanced Super Skrull warriors.
They did this by transplanting specially modified alien genes into selected human subjects.
Later, for reasons that remained unclear even to this day, the ambitious experiment was mysteriously abandoned.
The surviving test subjects gradually developed their own unique social structures and cultural identity, eventually becoming the race known as the Inhumans.
Attilan had served as the primary home of the Inhumans for countless generations.
Around seven thousand years ago, the growing Inhuman population had grown tired of constant harassment and interference from regular humans.
They decided to build a magnificent city entirely of their own creation.
Under the wise leadership of their Inhuman King, the entire race chose a small, isolated island in the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately two hundred miles from Iceland, as the perfect location for their future capital city.
After several decades of difficult construction work, the completed city was formally named Attilan, a name directly derived from the ancient legend of the lost city of Atlantis.
From that pivotal moment forward, Attilan gradually became the largest and most important gathering place for Inhumans throughout the world.
For thousands of years, the Inhumans had resided peacefully in their hidden city of Attilan, maintaining absolutely no contact with human society whatsoever.
Only a few lost Greek or Viking sailors were ever fortunate enough to behold the breathtaking magnificence of this lost city with their own eyes.
As time passed, the Inhumans began to worry seriously about their secret existence being discovered by the rapidly advancing human civilization.
When a single Inhuman was accidentally captured by human forces, the young but decisive Black Bolt made the momentous decision to relocate the entire tribe to a much safer location.
Using incredibly powerful anti-gravity machinery of their own design, the entire city of Attilan and its massive foundations were completely relocated to the remote Himalayas in China, an even more isolated and protected place far from human interference.
Attilan became commonly referred to as the Inhumans' "Great Refuge" during this significant period in their history.
While residing in the challenging Himalayan environment, a terrible accident occurred. Black Bolt's incredible powers accidentally destroyed all of the ancient buildings and structures, forcing Attilan to be completely rebuilt from the ground up.
When Earth's atmosphere began to become increasingly dangerous and toxic for the Inhumans' unique physiology, Attilan activated its sophisticated protective shield systems for the first time.
The city possessed five separate and distinct defense systems working in perfect harmony.
There was also a trillion-volt electrical fence, an extremely powerful air filtration system, and an incredibly strong and massive energy protective shield.
Due to their growing fear of Earth's increasingly harsh environment and dangerous diseases, the leadership decided that Attilan must migrate once again.
Neither the ancient Kree nor the evolved Inhumans possessed the natural ability to survive in the harsh vacuum of space without technological assistance.
The ancient Kree had constructed a special regional atmosphere around a portion of the lunar surface, which they had called the Blue Area.
This was precisely where the current Inhumans city of Attilan was now located, thriving in its artificial environment far from Earth's troubles.
