vol. 1 chapter 42 - Call Me Master
Catherine’s crimson eyes slowly regained their clarity. The grotesque tentacles behind her gradually withdrew into her body, and the last trace of abnormal markings on her skin faded away.
She looked down at the limp Degrienne nestled in her arms—
The silver-haired girl slept peacefully against her, crystalline drool still clinging to the corner of her lips.
“Oh my…” Catherine showed not the slightest hint of remorse. Instead, she licked the corner of her mouth in satisfaction.
She tightened her embrace, pulling Degrienne’s delicate body even closer into her chest.
Her body was impossibly soft—like it might snap with the slightest force—yet possessed a mesmerizing resilience.
“From now on, we’ll do this every day…”
She whispered against the heat-flushed curve of Degrienne’s ear, her fingertip tracing the girl’s waistline.
“Until every inch of your skin, every thread of your consciousness bears my imprint…”
The blood pool shimmered gently, its ripples reflecting a strange glow in her crimson pupils.
“We’ve got all the time in the world… my little one…”
No one knew how long had passed before Degrienne’s long eyelashes suddenly quivered.
When her dazed vision focused on Catherine’s face, she started struggling wildly like a frightened animal.
“L-Let me go!”
“Where do you think you’re going?” Catherine chuckled softly, her arms tightening like iron chains.
The more Degrienne squirmed, the more Catherine pulled her in—until their bodies pressed flush against each other.
“You’ll never escape your master’s arms~”
“You devil!” Degrienne’s voice cracked with sobs, but the exhaustion in her body made it come out weak and soft—almost like she was pouting.
Catherine narrowed her eyes in delight. “That’s called maternal love.”
She suddenly grabbed Degrienne’s chin, forcing her to look directly into her eyes.
“Now—tell your master… did you like it?”
Degrienne opened her mouth but froze, instinctively wanting to shout “Disgusting.” But the dangerous glint in Catherine’s eyes silenced her instantly.
She knew far too well what would happen if she said the wrong thing—her body, still aching, would not survive another round.
“Y-Yes…” The words came out thin as a whisper, squeezed through gritted teeth.
The moment she said it, she felt her dignity crush beneath her heel. Her cheeks burned so hot they nearly smoked.
“Hm?” Catherine’s finger slid down her throat. “I didn’t hear you~”
“Y-Yes! I like it!” she shouted with her eyes shut, her voice trembling with humiliation.
Immediately, she bit her lower lip, terrified she might let slip something even more disgraceful.
A flicker of joy flashed in Catherine’s red eyes. Her cold fingers stroked the girl’s burning cheek.
“What do you like? Say it properly~”
Degrienne’s breathing turned ragged. Her chest rose and fell rapidly.
She could feel her reason fracturing—her body responding to the other woman’s touch on its own.
“I… I like… Master…”
The words came out as a stifled whimper, trailing softer and softer.
“I like… everything about Master…”
The final word melted into a faint gasp.
Degrienne trembled all over in shame, tears welling in her eyes.
She couldn’t believe what she had just said.
Even more horrifying—
For a split second… she had meant it.
Catherine chuckled softly in satisfaction and leaned in to whisper beside her ear:
“Good girl~ Want to say more?”
Degrienne shook her head fiercely. She couldn’t let herself fall any further.
Something deep inside warned her—if she kept going, she might never be able to come back.
Catherine laughed and suddenly kissed her on the cheek.
It was a startlingly gentle kiss—like a reward—so unlike her violence in the throes of chaos.
When their lips parted, Degrienne instinctively tilted her head, chasing after that fleeting coolness… and immediately wished she could die from the shame of it.
“Good girl~”
Catherine rubbed her flushed cheek with the tip of her nose, her fingers combing through the mess of silver hair.
“If you behave next time… Master will give you an even better reward.”
The blood pool rippled gently, dyeing their entangled hair a deeper red.
Degrienne was horrified to realize…
A part of her was already hoping for that next time.
Catherine leaned lazily on the edge of the pool, twirling a strand of Degrienne’s hair around her finger, utterly satisfied.
After this long confinement, her little pet had finally started to depend on her—
Even if her mouth still refused to admit it, her body was far more honest.
“Mmm~”
She narrowed her eyes in delight, recalling the way Degrienne clung to her, half-resisting and half-accepting.
At first, she had fought it. But later… she’d melted into her arms.
Catherine’s fingers twitched playfully, tugging a little harder on the strand of hair—
“Mm—!”
Degrienne winced. “It hurts…”
She looked up in protest, ruby eyes still misted from earlier.
That pitiful look made Catherine’s heart flutter. She couldn’t resist planting a kiss on the girl’s forehead.
“Little Degrienne~” Catherine’s voice was soft. “Want to hear some good news?”
Degrienne’s ears perked up in wariness, but she still instinctively curled deeper into Catherine’s arms.
The contradiction of that motion nearly made Catherine laugh aloud—her training had been too successful.
“You… you’re letting me out?” Degrienne asked cautiously, her voice laced with a hope even she didn’t realize was there.
Then she quickly straightened her face and added,
“N-Not that I want to go! I’m just asking, okay?!”
Catherine chuckled and gently pinched her cheek.
“That’s right~ Since my little pet’s been so good, she deserves a reward.”
Of course, she didn’t tell Degrienne the real reason she locked her up in the first place—
It was because she had let the girl witness her own moment of weakness when the old wound flared—
Those uncontrollable tentacles… even Catherine found them repulsive.
Anyone else would’ve been silenced on the spot.
But Degrienne…
She couldn’t bear to.
“But before you go out…”
Catherine leaned close to her ear, breath hot against the sensitive tip.
“You have to agree to one condition.”
Degrienne shivered, her cheeks turning red.
“W-What condition…?”
Catherine’s red lips curled into a playful smirk. She gently lifted the girl’s chin.
“It’s very simple. Call me ‘Master,’ and I’ll take you out.”
Degrienne’s face turned scarlet in an instant. Even the tips of her ears burned.
“N-No way!”
Catherine frowned. “Why not? I’m the one ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) closest to you.”
Degrienne turned her head stubbornly.
“The person closest to me is my mom. And she’s already… you vampires…”
“Shhh—” Catherine placed a finger over her lips.
“That human wasn’t the one closest to you. I am.”
She suddenly pulled Degrienne tighter.
“You’re my most precious kin now. Understand?”
“Bullshit!” Degrienne shook in rage. “A First Embrace doesn’t mean we’re close! It’s not like I… besides, I’m human, you’re—”
“Click.” Catherine snapped impatiently. “You’ve got a lot to say, huh?”
She let out a cold laugh.
“Fine, don’t call me. Stay here, then.”
Suddenly, she let go of Degrienne, rising from the pool. Her crimson gown coiled elegantly around her body as she turned to leave.
Degrienne stood at the center of the blood pool, watching her really walk away.
A flicker of defiant satisfaction surged in her chest—
See?
She hadn’t been broken by that old witch’s threats!
But that feeling was quickly swallowed by a deeper dread—
If she didn’t seize this chance… how long would she be locked up again?
Just as Catherine’s hand reached the doorknob, Degrienne’s voice escaped uncontrollably:
“W-Wait!”
Catherine turned gracefully. “Yes?”
“C-Come here.” Degrienne’s voice was barely audible.
Catherine raised a brow but still stepped back toward the edge of the pool.
“Consider it a tiny favor for my little pet.”
Degrienne bit her lower lip and gestured for her to lean in.
When Catherine obediently bent down, she trembled, leaning in close to that pale ear, her warm breath brushing icy skin.
“M-Master…”
The words were so soft they nearly vanished. But Catherine’s blood-red eyes lit up instantly.
“Good girl!”
She scooped the naked Degrienne into her arms in one swoop, showering her with kisses amid the girl’s startled yelps.
“Master will take you out right now~”
Before Degrienne could react, she was already being dressed in a gothic gown.
As Catherine carried her toward the door of the chamber, she still felt dazed—
Was she really leaving?
When the long-forgotten scent of fresh air filled her lungs and the candlelit corridor came into view, Degrienne’s eyes widened.
She instinctively took a deep breath—
And froze the next instant.
Catherine hadn’t taken her toward the dormitory as expected.
Instead, she stopped in her tracks, eyes gleaming with mischief as she looked down at the girl in her arms.
Then, without warning, she turned—
And began walking toward the courtyard.
“W-Where are you taking me?” Degrienne asked warily, lifting her head.
“To test how obedient my little pet really is~”
Catherine’s breath was warm as she whispered,
“After all… who knows how much of that ‘Master’ was sincere?”
