Chapter 584: Number One
"Roar!"
The woods shook by the Bloodthirsty Bear's roar, causing all the animals to scatter in fear.
With flapping wings, the birds took flight, escaping the terrifying sound.
Kiernan approached the bear, and simultaneously, he unleashed his powerful aura of Martial Grandmaster.
It was like a hammer landed in the head of the Bloodthirsty Bear as it roared in pain and confusion, stumbling backwards.
The aura was strong. Unyielding. And dangerous!
"ROAR!"
Bloodthirsty Bear's scars started aching. It fought against the aura. And broke free from the state of the initial fear.
It had been roaming these woods way before Kiernan's birth, and it planned to keep doing so even way after his death!
Since the Bloodthirsty Bear was a descendant of the legendary Magical Beast, God Bear, it had been blessed with a long lifespan.
"Strong…"
Kiernan smirked. Good, he thought. And he broke into a run towards the bloodlusty bear.
With a clenched right fist, Kiernan's hard muscles of the right arm tightened, and he whacked his fist hard into the Bloodthirsty Bear's face.
SMACK!
Bloodthirsty Bear took flight, crashed into a hard wall of the cave, and came crashing down with a whimper of pain.
This was the strength of the peak humans—High Stage Martial Grandmaster—and current Kiernan's strength was inching closer to the realm of the gods!
This was also the strength of his peak self during his time on Earth. It was impossible for him to reach Martial King strength with his mortal body.
The laws of the universe were simply too restrictive, but in here, the Martial Arts World, the possibility of becoming God was open for everyone!
"ROAR!"
Bloodthirsty Bear climbed back to its feet, and on all fours, it charged towards Kiernan with unparalleled ferocity and strength.
When it came close, it swung its massive claws towards him, aiming to tear him to shreds, and it looked dangerous.
The thickness of the bear's arm was as thick as the tree trunks around them, and its fur was matted with dirt and blood.
Dodge? Jump over the arm? Run for his life?
Those thoughts came to Kiernan's mind. It happened in a split second as he thought about a countermove.
But then he realized that he didn't have to do any of those. He was Martial Grandmaster now, and he had no need to fear the Bloodthirsty Bear.
Thus, Kiernan placed his hard-muscled left arm in the way of the swinging arm of the bear and blocked its arm.
He made sure to avoid those claws, as those could still shred his arm.
"?!"
Bloodthirsty Bear looked shocked as it got its attack blocked just like that, and then it quickly brought its right arm to try with that instead.
"Argh!"
Before the right arm of the bear could reach him, Kiernan brought his right fist forward and landed a powerful blow on the bear's chest.
BANG!
The punch sounded like a gunshot, and the Bloodthirsty Bear flew back, stunned by the blow to the back, and smashed horrendously at the wall of the cave.
Bloodthirsty Bear's chest looked caved. Its ribs were shattered. The bear let out a deafening roar of pain and anger.
It quickly realized that Kiernan was the strongest Martial Grandmaster it had ever come across and realized that the death had come for it.
It quickly thought of one thing to do. Escape. And thus, it activated its defensive mechanism of cloaking itself with invisible energy.
"Not happening!"
Kiernan came over to the bear, smashed his fist into its snout, and cracked its skull.
The bear looked stunned, its eyes slowly glazing over, and its desire to stay awake fading slowly away.
However, at that moment, the bear cubs, hearing that their mother was in danger, came outside and jumped at Kiernan.
"Huh?"
Kiernan looked over and kicked the bear cubs off the air, as even though they were young, their claws were still sharp.
"ROAR!"
Bloodthirsty Bear screamed angrily and swiped its claws over at Kiernan, and he quickly had to back off.
The claws barely missed his body.
With a scream of pain and anger, Bloodthirsty Bear stood back up on its back legs, and as if it was copying Kiernan's boxing, it started throwing wild haymakers.
Kiernan weaved and dodged, then landed a few powerful hooks at the bear's waist—it brought the bear down to its knees.
He brought his knee forth and drove it into the bear's face—it pushed its head backwards—and blood spewed.
At this point, the bear's fur also had a crimson hue to it. It was the blood.
"Low kick!"
Kiernan low-kicked the bear at the back of its knee, causing it to fall onto the ground, and then he jumped on its back.
He wrapped his arms around the bear's neck and squeezed as hard as he could. It was ridiculous. If anyone were here to see it, they would think that he was a madman.
He put the Bloodthirsty Bear, known for murdering countless martial artists, into a chokehold and was trying to subdue it with his bare hands!
The bear struggled for a short while as its thick fur brushed against his skin but eventually succumbed to his strength.
Thump!
It collapsed to the ground, defeated once and for all.
"…Huff."
Kiernan combed his gray hair back, stood up to his feet, and then heard a dinging sound coming from his black wristwatch.
He looked at his black wristwatch.
[10,000 Points Acquired!]
[Ranking Updating…]
[1. Kiernan Hunter - Points: 10,000]
"I am the number one? I guess this mission gave the most points, so lucky me, I suppose. I didn't receive any experience points for the system…
"I think it is because the Bloodthirsty Bear doesn't have a martial soul, so it isn't part of any martial rank. A shame."
Kiernan stretched his arms and then saw the bear cubs roll over to their mother, still staggering from getting kicked by him.
They licked the face of their dead mothers and growled in the direction of Kiernan with hateful gazes.
'Why do I feel like I did something bad?'
Kiernan wryly smiled.
'…I understand their hatred towards me, as I killed their mother, but it's not like the Bloodthirsty Bear was some saint. It had killed so many people that no one knows the real count.
'It would've kept killing and would've turned its bear cubs into killers.'
Kiernan thought with a deep sigh.
"If you seek revenge, you can seek out little Fen. He'll need some battle experience."
With that, he walked away with the growls of the bear cubs ringing in his ears.
