Chapter 26: Or maybe, he had too much fur in his demon form (2)
Her laughter eventually gave away to sadness. Or perhaps, she was just feeling exhaustion from dealing with the life-threatening struggles in the past few days. Ruan Qiuqiu wondered if Mr. Gray Wolf’s injuries, which she had recently bandaged, had opened up again from moving around.
Ruan Qiuqiu leaned against the rough fur of his paw to try to lighten his burden. She closed her eyes and relaxed her tense limbs.
Noticing that the person in his front paw seemed a bit softer than before, Yuan Jue gingerly closed his paw around her and carefully held the snow-filled wood basin with his teeth. He was careful with his fangs so that he didn’t accidentally bite through the wooden basin.
He dragged his other usable two paws through the snow. Burning through what little remaining demon energy that he had left, he was finally able to bring the human woman that treated his injuries back into the cave. He was almost about to fall down himself.
Once her surroundings had gotten a little bit brighter, and her frozen nose had partially recovered a sense of smell. Ruan Qiuqiu quickly discovered Mr. Food Reserve’s bad condition.
He was in his demon form, but he was much smaller than the form he had taken this afternoon.
It hadn’t been easy for the smell of blood to dissipate earlier, and now, it filled the air again. Ruan Qiuqiu slightly turned her head and saw the fresh blood stains on the ground.
The injuries on his left leg must be bleeding again.
Ruan Qiuqiu’s chest felt tight. She bit her lip.
She regretted her choice. She regretted that she didn’t take a break before going out to get more snow.
Right now, she only hoped that Mr. Gray Wolf’s injuries wouldn’t get worse.
They had only been about twenty or so steps away from the cave, but right now, the time it took to get here felt especially long.
Yuan Jue had already reached his limit by the time he brought them back to the bedroom and near the fire.
He hadn’t eaten anything for the past ten days, and his stomach was now violently cramping. The strange blackening of his damaged demon core had also spread further.
He placed Ruan Qiuqiu down on the stone bed as softly as possible before turning around. It was a bit difficult to turn around in the cave in his giant wolf form, and his long wolf tail ended up causing a gust of wind to blow over Ruan Qiuqiu when he did so.
This gust of wind blew away a piece of her already raggedy animal skin clothing.
Ruan Qiuqiu with half of her shoulder now exposed: “…”
Yuan Jue, who was still observing her with his demon consciousness and happened to see her shoulder: “…”
Enduring the pain, Ruan Qiuqiu reached out and pulled over a piece of animal skin that Mr. Gray Wolf had been using earlier to cover herself. She looked at the blind wolf. She was very worried about his condition.
Seeing that her skin was touching the animal skin that was covered in his strong scent and that she was looking at him with a worried gaze, Mr. Gray Wolf felt a strange feeling welling up in his heart. A moment of inattention and he had softly closed his mouth all the way.
“Ka-ca!” The edge of the basin snapped off, and the side was now chipped.
Ruan Qiuqiu: “…”
Yuan Jue: “…”
Fortunately, he had made fairly large wooden basins, so only a little bit of the snow spilled out from this crack.
The embarrassed wolf felt as if he had done something wrong and failed to “see” there was no trace of disdain on Ruan Qiuqiu’s face. Under the warm light of fire, her eyes only glimmered with worry.
Her soft, long hair was spread out. Under the light and shadows cast by the fire, she looked especially gentle.
Yuan Jue couldn’t help flickering his ears. His heart felt turbulent again.
Perhaps, the firewood was too good at generating heat. Or maybe, he had too much fur in his demon form. For some unknown reason, he was feeling too warm.
He had to be clear-headed. He had to.
