Chapter 65 - 65 Thick-skinned
Chapter 65: Chapter 65 Thick-skinned
Xu Ying had prepared the meal, and she was ready to head home.
Seeing this, Huo Chen offered to walk Xu Ying home, but she quickly declined, “You guys go ahead and eat. The food won’t taste good once it’s cold. I can go back by myself.”
Huo Chen shook his head, and with a determined look at the sky, insisted on walking her home.
With no other option, Xu Ying and he walked towards her house, one leading and the other following.
“Dong Wenzhong, are you not being with me because of him?” Dong Wenzhong appeared as if he had caught her cheating, his eyes brimming with sorrow as he looked at Xu Ying.
“What stinking rat is this, so annoying.” Xu Ying frowned, her eyes darkening.
Hearing this, Dong Wenzhong’s expression turned livid, “Xu Ying, you weren’t like this before. How come you act like a shrew now?”
Xu Ying raised an eyebrow, “So a few curses make me a shrew?”
With disdain, she countered, “Then what are you, a kept man?
Always talking about wanting to be with me, to develop our feelings, then why do you constantly deceive me for things to eat?”
Dong Wenzhong choked, his expression darkening, “Xu Ying, when have I ever deceived you for things to eat? You gave them to me yourself.”
“Oh~” Xu Ying drew out her tone.
Seeing her like this, Dong Wenzhong grew a bit fearful because whenever Xu Ying acted this way recently, she was gearing up for a serious scolding.
“Xu Ying, the reason I did those things was because I wasn’t getting enough to eat.
Even if I was wrong before, I’m willing to change now. Don’t you know what kind of person Huo Chen is?
He could kill with his moves, and if you provoke him one day, he will definitely beat you too.”
Hearing this, Huo Chen’s dark and deep eyes filled with a pitiful look as he stared at Xu Ying, “I won’t hit you.”
Xu Ying nodded as if she was his owner.
Dong Wenzhong exploded with anger upon seeing this scene, unsure whether it was because Xu Ying was no longer flattering him, or because she had been eating well recently and had become more attractive.
Now, looking at the woman before him, who seemed so high and mighty, Dong Wenzhong no longer felt disgusted; instead, he felt a sense of admiration.
In his eyes, Xu Ying was a woman he did not want, but now that he could turn back, she should not let herself go.
Now, hooking up with a wolf cub like that, she truly seemed fickle.
“Xu Ying, I heard you are going to work at the State-owned Restaurant, is that true?” Sun Yunjuan’s eyes sparkled like she was looking at a wealth deity.
“Yes, what’s it about?”
Hearing this, Sun Yunjuan looked almost ready to clap her hands, her eyeballs rolling about. Now that Xu Ying also had a job, practically the entire Xu family were workers. If she married into the family, she would definitely live a life of luxury.
“It’s nothing, I’m just happy for you.” Sun Yunjuan said with a grin.
If one overlooked her scheming expression, Xu Ying might have really thought she was happy for her!
She tugged at the corner of her lips, feeling too lazy to expose her, “Thanks.”
At that moment, Dong Wenzhong’s expression shifted like a color palette: “Xu Ying, you’re going to work at a State-owned Restaurant?
Can you also find me a job?”
Xu Ying almost choked on her own spit, staring at Dong Wenzhong in astonishment, “What did you say?”
Thinking she hadn’t heard him clearly, Dong Wenzhong continued, “Can you find me a job too?”
Xu Ying laughed out loud, “Dong Wenzhong, how thick can your skin be? Thinking I can just find you a job as if jobs were so easy to come by.”
Unconvinced, Dong Wenzhong retorted, “Then how did you find a job?”
“How did I find it? I found it using my excellent cooking skills,” Xu Ying said, too lazy to talk to this big fool, acting as if someone owed him something.
“Just you, bragging,” Dong Wenzhong said with disdain.
Xu Ying was too lazy to talk and glanced at Huo Chen, signaling him with her eyes to continue walking her home.
Huo Chen followed her, while Dong Wenzhong shamelessly chased after them. “Xu Ying, please help me find a job, and when I earn money, I will spend it on you.”
Xu Ying couldn’t even bear to look at him. “Sorry, I can’t find one.”
She thought about how hard it was to find that job; if she really found it, she would give it to her family, not to some outsider.
Xu Ying was so angry she could have beaten him up if they weren’t in public.
She quickly walked ahead, leaving Dong Wenzhong behind and returned home.
Huo Chen watched her safely enter the yard before turning around and leaving. He saw Dong Wenzhong from a distance, and his eyes darkened.
The next day, Xu Ying woke up and had breakfast, only to hear that Dong Wenzhong had been beaten.
She couldn’t help but smile gleefully. “Serves him right!”
Mrs. Xu also laughed, saying that ever since her daughter had taken a dislike to Dong Wenzhong, she never minced words: “Have you ever seen such a shameless man? He always thinks about mooching off others without working. These days in the field, you wouldn’t believe it; he faints every day, his constitution is even more delicate than Chen Zhiqing’s.”
Xu Ying laughed her head off.
“Little sister, can I borrow your bicycle?” Eldest Sister-in-law Xu approached Xu Ying and asked timidly.
Xu Ying waved her hand generously, “Ride it, we’re all family here. Why be so polite? You even gave me your dowry cabinet back in the day.”
Mrs. Xu initially wanted to be upset, but hearing her daughter’s words, she deflated like a punctured balloon.
Looking at her eldest son’s wife she said, “Didn’t you hear your little sister? Just ride it, and remember her kindness.”
Eldest Sister-in-law Xu quickly nodded and prepared to visit her parents with Shitou and Hu Zi: “Mom, I’m leaving now. I’ll be back this afternoon, I promise it won’t delay little sister’s work tomorrow.”
Mrs. Xu nodded, thinking about the leftover wild boar meat at home, which was old and not very tasty.
Just yesterday her daughter had gone to help cook at the Huo Family’s place, and Huo Chen directly gave her two wild hares and a wild chicken, so she generously said, “You can’t go back empty-handed. We still have some wild boar meat left; you can take a couple of pounds to your parents.”
Eldest Sister-in-law Xu’s eyes turned red: “Mom, it’s not necessary. Little sister has given me fabric, just perfect for my older brother’s wedding. I’ll just take this red fabric over.”
Mrs. Xu got angry, “Just go if I told you to; why all this fuss?”
Eldest Sister-in-law Xu then hurried back inside, touched and prepared for departure.
As Shitou got on the bicycle, he looked at Xu Ying reluctantly: “Little aunt, I’ll come back early, don’t miss me too much!”
“Miss, miss Hu Zi,” Hu Zi chimed in from the side.
Xu Ying laughed and shook her head: “Then come back early, don’t forget about your little aunt.”
The kids nodded.
After they left, Mrs. Xu muttered, “Daughter, I know you have money, but you can’t just spend it like this. You buying fabric is one thing, but why buy so much red fabric. It’s so hard to find, and giving it away just like that… If people appreciate it, fine, but if they don’t, I’d skin them alive.”
“Mom, you know what kind of person Eldest Sister-in-law is. If she takes something, she will definitely treat me even better,” Xu Ying said.
Her sister-in-law indeed was that kind of person; if you did a small favor for her, she’d repay you threefold.
Sigh, it’s just that sometimes people who are too kind get taken advantage of.
Thinking about the people who bullied her sister-in-law in her previous life, Xu Ying twisted one hand with the other: No rush, we’ll take care of them one by one.
Eldest Sister-in-law rode the bicycle, taking her two sons back home, with Shitou incredibly excited on the ride.
