Male Lead's Canon Fodder Wife

Chapter 1486: Filial Child

Knowing that his father-in-law was worried that his family would be dissatisfied if his wife sent too many things back, Li Chenze explained, "Father-in-law, when I visited the town with my brothers, we noticed that the supplies sold in the grains and supplies store are in shortage. Even if there are some stocks, the price is too expensive now."

"So, my brothers and I went to the mountains to try our luck. We didn't expect to find several grain fields in the mountain. Fortunately, we managed to harvest them all before the weather turned cold."

"Now, we have a lot of grains and flour at home. It's enough to last us for two to three years. So, my father told me to send some over for you and my Mother-in-law."

After a moment of pause, he continued, "Father-in-law, I know you worry about my brothers-in-law and their families. But now that you have separated the households, you should think more about yourself and my Mother-in-law."

"Both of you are already advancing in age and not in good health, while my brothers-in-law and their families are young and very strong. They can work to get their own food."

"These things are a token of filial piety from me and my wife. In the future, we will send supplies over once every month. You shouldn't skimp on food and harm your body," he added.

Hearing this, Father Zhang let out a long sigh and said, "Father understands."

"Father, you should accompany my Mother-in-law. I will unload the things first," Li Chenze said.

Father Zhang didn't refuse and went to his bedroom to talk with his wife.

It took Li Chenze almost an hour to unload all the things he brought over and take the supplies owned by his parents-in-law from the kitchen. They didn't divide the meat and dried vegetables in the kitchen, as it was given to the old Zhang couple.

Li Chenze knew how greedy his brothers-in-law and their families were, so he didn't leave anything behind besides some salt and sugar. The rest were moved to the empty room and locked.

When he was done, he knocked on Father Zhang's bedroom and said, "Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, I'm done now and need to go back. My wife is waiting for me at home."

Not long after, the door was opened, and Mother Zhang said, "Eldest son-in-law, thank you for your help. When Ah Mei gives birth, I will go help take care of her postpartum period."

Li Chenze nodded and said, "Then I will prepare the room for you, Mother-in-law."

Afterward, he took out two jars and an envelope from his pocket. Then, he handed them to her with the room's key and added, "Mother-in-law, these are some ginseng powder and medicinal herb powder made by my third sister-in-law."

"You can add some medicinal herb powder into your drinking water or use it for cooking. It can improve your health. As for the ginseng powder, mix half a teaspoon of the powder with a cup of warm water and take it once every two weeks. It should help lighten Father-in-law's and your old injuries."

Mother Zhang was stunned by his words and quickly pushed the items back to him while saying, "Eldest son-in-law, these things are too precious. I can't accept them."

Li Chenze put the items back into her hands and said, "Mother-in-law, we have more at home. Just take it. If you finish these things, you have to tell me. I will bring more for you and my Father-in-law."

Before she could refuse, he added, "Mother-in-law, Ah Mei is waiting for me at home. I have to go back and prepare lunch for her. I will come next month to see you and my Father-in-law."

When he finished his words, he turned and left without giving Mother Zhang a chance to refuse again.

After he left, Mother Zhang closed the door and placed the things on the small table on the kang bed.

Sitting across from her husband, she said, "Husband, it's still our Ah Mei and her husband who are the most filial. Back then, I knew that the Li family was a good family. Now, we can only depend on them."

Father Zhang smoked his cigarette and said, "Keep those things well. What was given to us by Ah Mei and her husband, don't give it to our sons."

He glanced at the jars and added, "Especially those things in the jars. Ginseng and medicinal herbs are hard to come by. I don't know how much Ah Mei had to pay to get those things for us."

Mother Zhang nodded and said, "I know, I'm not that foolish yet."

Feeling curious, she opened the envelope and was stunned by what she saw. Taking out the money and coupons, she exclaimed in a low voice, "Ah Mei, this child, how can she give us so much?"

Father Zhang was also surprised to see the money and coupons. After they counted the money, it totaled 3,000 yuan.

As for the coupons, they totaled 50 kilograms of flour, 50 kilograms of grains, 10 liters of oil, 10 kilograms of sugar, 2 kilograms of salt, 50 kilograms of cotton, 5 bolts of fabric, 100 kilograms of meat, 50 kilograms of vegetables, and 5 industrial coupons.

Besides the money and coupons, there was also a letter. Since Zhang Dongmei couldn't come back to visit her parents, she could only write a letter. But her parents were illiterate, so she could only draw for them to understand.

After years of communication like this, the old Zhang couple understood that their eldest daughter wanted them to buy some cotton and fabric to make a new quilt and cotton jacket, as winter was coming.

The industrial coupon was to buy a sewing machine so Mother Zhang could earn some extra money by helping others sew clothes. The rest of the coupons were for them to buy a thermos and a bicycle.

Before winter, she wanted them to have a check-up in the hospital, thus, she sent lots of money back to cover their medical expenses.
