Chapter 13: The Wicked People
All eyes were on the jar and basket in Lu Jueyu's hand. As a simple-minded person, Wang Muxiao just blurted out everyone's questions.
"Jueyu, what did you bring back?" She asked curiously.
"Brother Chenmo said it was not good to use our food to cook for him and Uncle Li, so he gave me some money, coupons, meat, and eggs. He also asked me to tell him if it was not enough." Lu Jueyu said while showing the items.
Lu Jueyu opened the jar, revealing the meat and bones inside. When she removed the cloth covering the basket, everyone saw that the basket was full of eggs, brown sugar, ginger, salt and oil.
Looking at the brown sugar and ginger, she added, "Brother Chenmo told me to make some brown sugar ginger soup to dispel the cold."
Hearing her words, Father and Mother Lu smiled and nodded. The son-in-law is not bad. Even though he was hurt, he still cared deeply about their daughter. Although he may be lame in the future, he has a good personality, is willing to work hard, and cares about their daughter. After marrying him, she will not suffer, which is enough for them as her parents.
"Okay, put your things away first and have dinner." Father Lu reminded her.
Lu Jueyu went to the kitchen and put away the ingredients. Meanwhile, she tasted the water in the tank and sighed. She later needed to replace the water used by her family. Unlike the Li family, the Lu family's house is close to the mountain. She can make some water pipes out of bamboo and fetch water from mountain springs to fill their water tanks.
After dinner, she went to find her brothers. Although their families are not separated yet, they live in different houses. She lives in the main house with her parents. In addition to the four bedrooms, there is a huge living room used for dining and receiving guests.
Her eldest brother's family lives in the house on the left of the main house, and her second brother's family lives in the house on the right of the main house. Both houses are newly built with three bedrooms and a living room. As for the kitchen and bathroom, they are respectively built at the back of the main house. These buildings were shared between families.
There is a well and a pear tree in front of the house. The backyard is used to grow some vegetables. A chicken coop was built near the corner of the backyard. There are ten people in their family and they can only raise five chickens at most. It can be said that their family raises the most chickens in the village.
When Lu Jueyu walked towards her eldest brother's house, she knocked on the door. Not long after, her eldest nephew opened the door.
Seeing the cute little boy, her eyes softened a little, and she asked, "Why hasn't Xiaoyi slept yet?"
"Xiaoyi isn't sleepy yet. Auntie, come in, it's cold outside." Lu Wenyi said in a childish voice while stepping aside.
Lu Jueyu was amused by his adult behavior and rubbed his head, which made his body tensed up. The three children of the Lu family were all afraid of the original host. Since she didn't like children, the original host would frown and stare at them when she saw them. Kids know who likes them and who doesn't. Therefore, as they clearly know that their aunt doesn't like them, as long as their aunt is around, they will behave well.
Lu Jueyu's eldest brother has two sons. The eldest is four years old, named Lu Wenyi, and the second son is only two years old, named Lu Wenmu.
As for the second brother, he has been married for three years and has only one daughter. In a few days, his daughter will celebrate her first birthday. Her name is Lu Wenfeng. The youngest generation of the Lu family is born with fair skin, good looks and smart minds.
Although their living conditions are not as good as in the modern era, adults love them very much, so they still have enough food and warm clothes. Compared with other children in the village, they can be called pampered children.
Because the sister-in-law has a kind personality, as long as she has extra food, she will secretly give it to the "wicked people" who live in the pigsty and cowshed near their home. Sometimes, when they were sick, she would bring them some medicine.
Although not much, for them, it is a great help. They were sent by the government to the village to do heavy and dirty work to reform themselves. Most of these people were landlords, nobles or rich people before the reformation. In addition, intellectuals were also sent to the countryside to reform in these past years.
Coupled with poor living conditions and lack of food and medicine, many people fell ill. Although the cause of their death is mostly disease, the suicide rate is not low due to depression.
In order to repay Chen Anwen's kindness to them, these people will help her secretly teach her sons. Fortunately, their house is far away from other villagers. Therefore, no one reported them to the authorities. Otherwise, their family will be finished. Whoever helps the wicked will be punished in the same way, because they will be labeled as the same kind.
After Lu Jueyu entered the room, Lu Wenyi led her to the bedroom. She saw her eldest brother struggling to read words from an old book.
She walked to the bed and asked, "Brother, what are you doing?"
Lu Han showed her the book and said, "I'm reading it. It's good to know some words, it will be easier when we visit the town."
Lu Jueyu glanced at the cover and found that it was a book for the first grade of elementary school. In this era, there are only primary and middle schools, and the teaching materials are simple. Recalling the history learned in her previous life, her eyes lit up.
