Chapter 7: Guild Test
A group of caravans quickly approach the city gates, when they see the huge queue of caravans waiting in front of the huge gates they slow down, then join the queue and wait their turn.
This group of caravans was where Nim was.
Being closer Nim can see more clearly the huge gates of the city and its great walls.
(How many people) It was the first time that Nim visited a city and before entering he had already seen many people waiting to enter the city.
After waiting almost two hours, it was his group's turn.
At the head was the merchant's caravan, the latter had already left to speak with the guards, and his reason for visiting.
Although the security of the city seemed to be exhaustive, the truth was that the superiors and their subordinates only thought about their benefits.
As long as you pay the entrance to the city, and some additional to the guard on duty, it was easy to avoid so many obstacles.
The merchant was talking about his reason for visiting, while he took out a bag, in that bag there were several silver coins.
These two guards seemed to have a higher position, upon receiving the bag and seeing inside, they put on a happy expression.
A higher-ranking guard gives instructions to his subordinates, the latter do a small investigation of the merchant's caravans, at the moment that a guard approaches the caravan that Nim is in.
He superficially checks without seeing what was inside and passes.
Nim, feeling that they did not check inside, assumed that the merchant had made some deal.
In truth, Nim could have entered the city without going through all this, but doing so would take him more time and money.
And as he was the government of the Country, he would probably have had to pay more than he should.
With all that trouble, Uncle Smith had reached an agreement with the merchant.
The group of caravans passes through the huge doors of the city, upon entering, Nim was greeted by the enormous noise of the crowd.
Passing through a few more streets, Nim's caravan stops.
-You can get off now- A voice is heard outside.
Nim, upon hearing this, opens the curtains and gets off. In front of him was a man dressed in expensive clothes and with a huge belly, it was the merchant.
-With this, my debt to Mr. Smith is paid, now it's up to you- with this said, the merchant turns around and gets into his caravan.
Nim watches as the caravans move away and get lost in the crowd.
Now that Nim is alone, he begins to observe his surroundings and realizes that he is on a street that is not very busy.
Looking around in more detail, he begins to see the characteristics of the buildings around him.
With an astonished look, he realizes that it does not look anything like his town.
Uncle Smith had already told him many things about the city and his other trips, but even seeing it with his own eyes was impressive.
After a while of walking and observing, in addition to attracting the attention of passersby for his strange behavior.
He begins to search through his things and manages to take out a piece of paper, this piece of paper was a map of the capital that Uncle Smith had given him.
After observing it for a long time, he came to a conclusion.
(I'm lost) Nim realized when he couldn't find his way on the map.
After thinking about it, he decided to ask the local people for guidance.
After walking back and forth, he decided to enter a place that seemed to be a restaurant.
He sat down at one of his tables, a waiter saw that and approached Nim's table.
The waiter saw the young man enter and put on a strange expression, but still spoke.
-Good afternoon, what would you like? - the waiter said.
-Could you bring me some soup? - Nim, if he wanted to ask the waiter for directions, he should at least buy something.
(A soup...) The waiter already had guesses when he saw the boy, although his clothes were quite normal, he had an accent somewhat different from those in the city.
(This boy is from the country) People who were from the country normally spoke with an accent that distinguished them, and when they arrived in the capital they would not have much money on them.
Thinking about that, the waiter became discouraged, and even thought about scaring the boy away.
- Ah. If you don't have soup, maybe something with meat would be good, and I would also like to ask for a place - Nim spoke up to here and took out a silver coin.
The waiter, seeing the coin, quickly changed his expression and put on a smile. "Yes, we have soup and also meat, and what information would you like to know?"
Nim, ignoring the waiter's change of attitude, began to ask him about his location on the map and how to get to the guild, and finally some good Inns.
The waiter gladly explained and indicated where he was on the map, to his surprise his location was very close to the guild.
With his doubts resolved, Nim gave the silver coin to the waiter, the waiter received him with a smile and went to bring the dish that Nim had ordered.
After a moment the waiter brought a soup and a piece of meat.
Nim received it and began to eat, on the long trip he had not had a good meal, the soup he ate on the trip did not have a good taste and his own rations were only dry meat.
Now that he had tried a good meal he devoured it quickly.
After paying for the food, which wasn't much for how simple he asked, he started to move to the guild.
On the way Nim felt like climbing the buildings to go faster, but Uncle Smith had told him that it was forbidden to do that in the capital, otherwise he could be arrested by the City Guard.
Knowing that Nim suppressed his impulse to do that.,
...
The location of the guild was in the central area of the Capital, the location of the guild was common knowledge.
But Nim had never been very good with directions.
As it was getting dark Nim finally managed to glimpse the enormous building of the guild.
This was the main headquarters of the Guild in the country, as a result it was the largest in the country.
As Nim approached he put on a smile of excitement, it took him all afternoon to get here because he only walked.
Also in the course he had seen something that Uncle Smith had told him, the demi-humans.
Compared to the huge human population, demi-humans were very few.
In fact, in the Sinfrienld country there was some discrimination against demi-humans, but they were not enslaved, because doing so would be an insult to the country of the Demi-humans.
That country was one of the strongest countries on the continent, with that background the Sinfrienld Country had not put harsh laws towards the demi-humans who lived in the country.
As Nim got closer and closer to the guild, he began to see people with different outfits, some with heavy armor, others with staffs and bows, and more types of clothing, there were even some demi-humans among them.
These people were Adventurers, they went in and out of the guild headquarters.
Nim, who seems quite normal, enters the large doors of the guild.
As he enters, he notices that there are even more people, some were sitting at the tables talking to another group or his own group.
Others were standing looking at the notice board for the quests.
And some were looking for a group to re-enter the dungeon.
(This place is huge) Nim, amazed by the lively scene, looks for the reception to be able to register, upon finding it, he goes to the queue at the reception.
Waiting for his turn, he slowly approaches the window and manages to listen to the conversation that a person was having with the receptionist.
- I want to take this mission, I know I don't have the required level, but I'll level up soon so it's still within my capabilities- a man who looked to be nineteen or twenty years old speaks to the receptionist.
- This mission not only requires the indicated level, but it's for at least a group of two people- The receptionist speaks with a tone accustomed to this type of situation.
- Yes... but- the person stops halfway through what he is going to say when he hears the receptionist's tone become colder.
- Please don't delay the people behind you- receptionist.
The person, faced with the rejection, walks away discouraged.
- Next - Upon hearing those words, Nim advances.
- What mission are you going to register for? - the receptionist asks,
- I'm not going to take any missions, I want to register - Nim
- Registration..- The receptionist had assumed that Nim was an adventurer, although he looked very young, it was not unusual for people of his age to be adventurers.
- Okay, fill out this form - Nim receives a pen and a piece of paper.
Nim begins to write down some simple information that the form asked for and hands it to the receptionist.
The receptionist takes a casual look at the form and sees the boy's age. - Nim, thirteen years old.
Although the minimum age requirement was thirteen, many began to register at fifteen or sixteen, it was very rare to see people of his age, and he also seemed older than his age.
The receptionist did not think much more about it, since later it would be decided whether or not he was suitable to become an adventurer.
- Okay, the guild test to give you your ID will be in three days, take a token to be able to take the test- The receptionist gave him a circular token, that token had the guild crest on it.
Nim received the token and walked away from the line, now he had to find a place to stay before taking the test.
As he left the guild and saw the streets lit by the headlights he thought to himself- I hope I don't get lost-, Nim still had to find the Inn that the waiter had recommended.
