Chapter 38 Roommates
The number 19 was written in front of the hallway, and I stepped inside, the first thing I noticed was six beds, and four of the beds were already occupied.
"Is this your room?" A girl asked as they all turned towards me.
"Yes, I'll be staying with you; I hope we get along," I muttered as my eyes scanned the girl's face, and then, another coincidence, I saw the princess.
"We'll obviously get along, what's your name?" The girl asked.
"My name is Xavier," I spoke, and the door opened, and another girl stepped in; as if the coincidence wasn't enough, Mia was the second girl to step in.
"Xavier, are you staying here?" She asked with a smile on her face.
"Yes, I am" I replied.
"Hi, my name is Mia" she muttered as she bowed her head politely, and then she saw the princess.
"My name is Clara," The first girl spoke, "This is Lila and her sister Lily, and Princess Mirabel"
"Hi, Hi there," Lila and Lily spoke; both of them were twins with bright blue hair, and they looked so identical I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.
The princess, on the other hand, just had a smile on her face. I'm still struggling to believe this was just a coincidence, and then Clara, who first spoke to me, had brown hair.
The room was not all that spacious, but it was enough to contain six people and had three bunk beds; the twins shared one, while Clara and Mirabel shared one, and one was left empty.
"Would you like the top?" Mia asked.
"No, you can take the top," I muttered as I placed my bag and sword on the bed, and Mia climbed up.
I sat down and noticed all the girls were staring at me; since they were girls, I knew I would have to tell them my entire life story.
"So Xavier, which of the village are you from, or do you live in the city?" Clara asked.
"I live in the city," I simply replied; I told the princess I was a commoner, so I was going to continue.
"Why didn't you attend the magic academy at 15? I'm sure you should have passed since your father is the head of Avalon forces," Mirabel spoke.
'Shit...what was I thinking, of course, she'll find out who I was, she was the princess'
"What! Wait, he's the son of...oh, that explains the white hair; I didn't know," Lila muttered.
"I'm not that good with magic, so I trained to be a swordsman," I spoke.
"What about you, Mia? Are you a Noble?" Clara asked.
"No, I'm from a village to the west" Mia replied.
"Oh, that makes two of us, the rest of them are Nobles" Clara spoke with a smile on her face.
'I had a plan to copy as many spells and skills as I could but who was I kidding, how am I going to do anything with 5 girls in the room'
The next moment, I heard a ringing sound inside the room, and the girls got down from their beds; I guess that was the signal that training was starting.
I stood up from my bed, and Mia climbed down, but I waited behind till the girls left the room.
[Inventory]
The space opened in front of me, and I kept my sword in there before exiting my room; all the doors were opened, and students filled the hallway as they made their way down.
"Hey, a male"
"What male, we don't have...oh my...we have a male"
I heard the girls directly in front of me speaking as we all made our way down to the training ground, where all I could hear was the girls talking about me; I guess they really wanted a male in their class.
I arrived at the training ground where the instructor Sofia was already standing, and beside her were tons of wooden swords, enough for each of us.
"Listen up; I'll now explain the training," the instructor said as all the students lined up in front of her.
"Most of you here are mages and extremely good at casting spells but being a mage and a magic knight are two different things"
"The training is split into three main parts, each lasting three months. Between each phase, you'll get a month to rest, recover, and think about what you've learned. These breaks aren't just for relaxing; they're for you to absorb everything and get ready for the next stage."
"The first three months focus on building your basics. You'll start with the essentials—stances, footwork, grip, and simple strikes. Nothing advanced yet. I'll make sure these fundamentals become second nature to you."
"This part is about building muscle memory and discipline. You won't touch a real sword until the second month. For now, you'll use wooden swords because your bodies need to be ready first."
"After your first break, we move on to the second phase—technique and form. This is when you start using real swords. You'll work on the details of sword fighting: blocking, faking, countering, and more. You'll be paired up to spar, and you'll see your strengths and weaknesses. Expect some bruises."
Sofia looked at the students, watching their reactions. "Your mind will also be tested. Sword fighting isn't just physical; you'll need to learn to read your opponent, predict their moves, and strike smartly, not just with strength. This is when real combat starts to feel possible."
What Sofia was saying all made sense, but it felt like she was talking to just the mages. I had been training since childhood, so my stance, footwork, and skills were already good, but maybe starting from the basics again would help me improve.
"The final phase starts after your second break. By now, you'll know your way around a sword, so you'll train in different environments, against multiple enemies, and under pressure. This is where you learn combat, not just duels. You'll also be taken into the forest for live practice."
