Lunaris: The Ascension

Chapter 24: Pawn

Robert looks at him and says, "Jing saved me, and I am happy for that."

Hans put his book beside him as he got up and adjusted his clothes as he asked, "Well, I guess we are teammates for now."

Robert nodded, "Indeed we are."

Suddenly Arthur and Matthew came inside, looking around.

"Matthew, why did you go out yesterday? We were discussing today." Arthur asked.

"Well, sorry, brother, but I was on a date with one of 7 girls that asked me to go out yesterday when we were at this cafe and chilling."

Arthur clicked his tongue and looked at Robert.

"Hello, Mister Smith and Mister Hans."

Hans gave a small nod, as if they were acknowledging their presence, while Robert also nodded.

Raven came from the room he shut yesterday. As he cleared his throat, he said, "Before sending you all on missions, I must assign you all a codename."

Without waiting, Raven continued, "Matthew, your code name is 'Bishop'; Arthur, you are Rook, and Hans, you will be called Knight, and Robert? Hmmmm...Pawn."

Pawn? Why?

"Well, that's interesting," Arthur commented

"Indeed," Matthew nodded.

"Thanks," Hans replied.

Raven nodded as he said, "On today's mission, we will assign you to investigate four crime scenes; two teams of two people will go explore two crime scenes, so?"

Raven pointed at Robert and Hans. "Pawn and Knight will go investigate the two sites, and Bishop and Rook will investigate the outskirts of the Cosford crime scenes."

Raven continued, "The crime is an abnormal amount of people are reported missing in areas. We tried the normal police force, but they were mostly clueless. If you find something, return and report it to me immediately."

Arthur and Matthew nodded as they both took out their wands and teleported to their assigned location.

Hans looked at Raven and asked, "Shall we?"

Robert nodded and looked at Hans. "Did Raven tell you the location?"

Hans nodded, "Yes."

They all also teleported; Robert saw as a void enveloped them, and after a while it disappeared as they reached a modest apartment.

"This site has been sealed by the police; we have complete privacy." Hans explained.

Robert nodded, "Yes, let me search this place."

Hans stopped Robert as he said, "Let me do it. You can observe from behind how one does it; it will definitely help you in the future."

Then Hans tapped his temples and scanned the room. "I have a special exception to uncover the uncovered bestowed upon me through Raven upon the vision of God Vireos."

Hans turned back and asked, "What is your exception, Robert?"

Robert hesitated, "I cannot reveal it, but it's something that will make everything go perfectly."

Hans nodded, "Why can't you?"

Robert replied, "I prefer to keep it that way."

Hans glanced at Robert as he nodded, "Well, I can't force you to say it, but it would be beneficial for the teamwork, right?"

Robert rubbed his chin with his fingers as he nodded, "I will think."

Suddenly, Hans said, his voice rising, "I saw footsteps; they are going outdoors." The room was small and had a small bed, a small table and a small kitchen, but the room didn't have a private bathroom.

"Follow me," Hans instructed as he slowly opened the door and made his way out of the door. There he saw a small living room which had a bathroom attached to it and a kitchen.

"Small apartment; the missing appear to be lower-middle class." Hans confirmed and continued, "But the footsteps seem to end here."

Robert nodded as he walked around the room and checked every door and drawer, and he also didn't find anything.

Hans questioned, "Found anything?"

Robert shook his head lightly as he said, "Sadly, no."

Hans sighed, "Come with me downstairs."

Robert nodded, and he followed Hans as they walked out of the room. As they closed the door, they saw that the hallway was short and didn't have many other rooms.

"The landlord was already informed of these investigations, so he is shifted to another hotel for this night." Hans said.

Robert, who was looking here and there, answered, "Well, alright."

Hans, who, after looking around for a while, asked, "Robert, do you know that if you use your exception too much, then you might have to face some side effects?"

Robert looked at Hans, "Like?"

Hans, who was still searching the area, replied, "If I use my exception for two hours, then I can experience temporary vision loss, and if I use it for more than four hours, then I will be blind."

Robert's eyes widened. "Well...I still don't know what the side effects of my exception are."

Hans stopped and looked at Robert, "You...don't?"

Robert nods

"You can ask the question to Raven, he will help you."

Robert replied, "I will."

After a while of investigations and finding nothing, Han and Robert got out of the building and took a final look as Han really squeezed his eyes to look at the exterior, as he found nothing.

Robert, who was standing beside Hans, saw that Hans was concentrating too much and saw his eyes reddening, so he shook his shoulder. "Enough, it almost looked like blood was about to come out."

Hans jumped as he shook his head hurriedly and then stopped, "Well, it was." He tapped his temples and sighed, "Let's return."
