Luna to two: Claimed by her two alphas

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Mabel

ANTHONY

I run after her, Asher hot on my heels.

We've been so foolish. So dense.

I can't believe i made my mate cry.

My heart burns like it's on fire. I know Asher feels it too.

The type of pain that can only be caused by hurting your mate.

"Anita!" I yell

"Just leave me alone!" She shouts back, ducking into the library.

I grab the doorknob and I'm about to turn when i feel Ash's hand on my shoulder.

"Ash." I warn

"Anthony" he mocks.

I shoot him a glare so harsh that if it were any regular pack member they would be quivering in their boots.

Unfortunately, we're equals.

"Anthony, i think she just needs her space right now" he says.

"Space? We made her cry, i have to fix it" I push his hand off and turn to the door again.

He stops me with his foot this time.

"Just think, Anthony "

"We brought her here in what was almost a forceful manner considering she didn't have much of a choice." He turns me towards him.

Stares at me like he's berating a petulant child.

"What does that tell you?" He asks.

"She's probably scared as hell, fuck" i drag my palm down my face.

"Yes, and she definitely needs time alone to think." He continues.

"You need to be more patient with her, Ant. She's our mate, she'll come around."

I soften, leaning back against the wall, i sigh.

"We don't have much time Ash."

"Trust me, this way is better. Why don't we go take care of the other matter?"

"Yeah, sure."

I crack my muscles and head down the hall.

My pupils fade to black.

****

ANITA

I didn't even know where i was going to end up when i ducked into this room.

It's a library !

A beautiful library with floor to ceiling filled with books.

It's bright and airy with a French balcony and the coziest reading nook I've ever seen.

I could spend all day in here.

I plop down on a bean bag and stretch, wiggling my toes, i close my eyes, relaxing.

So serene.

"This is the life." I murmur, smiling happily.

"A big fan of libraries are we now?" Says a voice from above.

I pop my eyes open and squeal.

The old lady chuckles.

"You're a squeamish one, yes?"

I watch as she totters over to the shelf at the far side of the room, browsing the books.

"Um...who are you? "I ask.

"Oh I'm just the librarian, Mabel." She smiles,

"Think of me as a new friend dearie, so how are your handsome mates doing?"

I purse my lips in response as fresh tears well up.

"Oh dear! What's the matter girlie?" She glides over from the shelf, sitting beside me and taking my hands in her's.

I can't help myself, she's so warm and so welcoming.

Before i know it the words are spilling out of my mouth and I'm telling her everything.

Leaving out my discovery about my new found strength of course.

Some things are best kept secret.

When I'm done she hands me a tissue- where'd that come from?- and cups my hand gently.

"This all sounds very overwhelming, dear. It's understandable that you're a little put out."

"You've been through quite alot in the past few days." She smiles softly.

"What should i do?" I ask, pouting.

"Well that's up to you dear, i can't tell you what to do." She says as she strokes my hair.

"I know you feel unsure. I know you're scared. But they are your mates, given to you by the moon goddess. They are hard wired to be your protectors."

"Do you believe in the old gods child?" Her cerulean eyes seem to glow in the sunlight and her white curls shine.

I nod and she smiles in an approving manner.

"Then you must trust that the moon goddess would not saddle you with not one, but two good for nothings!" She exclaims, laughing heartily.

"But- what about-"

"Child" she interrupts sharply, her eyes roaming the room and her ears straining in a way that suggests she's at high alert.

"Trust in the mating bond, trust in your abilities. You are not as weak as you think you are." She squuezes my hand.

Wait. How does she...

The doorknob turns and my head whips in that direction.

Rumi walks in, grinning.

"Ani! Is it okay if i call you that? Dosen't matter 'cause i am." She says, twirling her purple hair around her finger.

"Where have you been girl? I've been looking all over for you."

"I was just-" I turn around to introduce her to Mabel but...

She's gone.

What the hell?

I look around frantically, mouth gaping open and close like a fish.

How does a tiny old woman just disappear?

What is going on today?

I need a nap maybe. Yes. I have to be hallucinating.

"Who are you looking for girl?" Rumi drags me from the room. I can't stop glancing back.

Did i make her up?

Rumi takes me downstairs.

"You don't talk a whole lot do you?" She asks.

"Not really" I shrug.

I think back to a time when I could never shut up. Dana made sure to beat that out of me.

"You hungry? We could grab a bite to eat before we head out?

Just then my stomach grumbles.

"Head out? Where are we going?" I ask.

"Well, I'm assuming you actually want to get some vitamin D and get a look at what our pack land is like rather than stay cooped up indoors all day."

"Yes! I could kiss you Rumi!" I squeal.

She looks pleasantly surprised as she chuckles.

"Just wait here and I'll grab some sandwiches for the road. Oh and, you can call me Rue!" She yells, jogging to the kitchen.

This is the perfect opportunity to scope out what I'm dealing with.

I know Rumi said to wait here for her, but it couldn't hurt to look around a bit.

I walk a little and come to a stop in front of the big black door where i had a panic attack earlier.

Great. I turn around to leave but my ears prick as guttural screams ring out.

What is up with this place?
