Chapter 190: Clash with the wolfmen
"Fire!"
The green-haired General shouted at the top of his lungs after the Kalahari soldiers and wolfmen got close enough.
The archers who were already in position immediately knotted their arrows and pulled on their bowstrings, they aimed at the sky and released their grip on their bowstrings after a few seconds.
Woosh! Woosh! Woosh!
Whistling sounds filled the sky for a moment and drowned the howling wind as thousands of arrows soared into the sky and flew towards the Kalahari soldiers and wolfmen who were rushing over.
The sky was covered by the countless arrows for a moment; it was as if many tiny holes were poked through the sky, and their shadows enveloped a part of the Gulu plain.
The Kalahari soldiers and wolfmen all looked up at the scene of thousands of arrows raining down on them but as if they didn't care about their life, they continued to rush toward the army of the Cloud Dew Dynasty like lunatics with ferocious expressions on their faces while screaming at the top of their lungs.
The arrows soon reached the height of their flight and began to fall down.
In the distance, Leon and the others watched the horrific scene of arrows plunging into the enemies like raindrops.
Pained screams and voices of unwillingness rose into the sky a few seconds later after the arrows began to rain down on the enemies. After all, there were countless ordinary soldiers on the other side as well and they could not protect themselves from the rain of arrows.
Unlike the wolfmen, who were unaffected by the arrows since they simply snapped after making contact with their hard bodies, the human soldiers were not so.
Even their armour would give way after getting poked by tens of arrows in a row, and there were gaps in between their armour as well.
Soon, soldiers of the Kalahari dynasty began to drop one after the other with arrows poking through their bodies. Blood spilled on the ground and the yellow sand soon turned golden.
More than a thousand soldiers were killed by this wave of arrows yet it looked like it didn't reduce the numbers of the enemies at all as the others simply stepped over the dead bodies of their comrades and kept charging at the Cloud Dew Dynasty's soldiers.
The sight of the wolfmen directly taking the arrows with their bodies was especially mind-troubling and caused some soldiers to tremble from fear.
The green-haired General had to remind them again that the sects were going to take care of these beasts.

"Second wave, prepare to fire!"
He shouted and the archers swiftly knotted new arrows on their bowstrings and pulled.
"Fire!!"
With another command from the General, the archers aimed and released their bowstrings into the sky, and another wave of arrows poured down on the Kalahari soldiers and wolfmen.
Just like before, blood flowed like a river as thousands of soldiers dropped to the ground and were trampled on by their comrades while the wolfmen remained unaffected.
Leon's expression was strange at the moment. Just like anyone else, he could clearly see that the wolfmen were being unharmed by the arrows; they simply ignored the rain of arrows and didn't bother to block them.
He might not have known anything about wolfmen but this display of sturdiness alone was enough to tell him that these beasts were not to be trifled with.
Bai Quing had said that they were only as strong as level 3 martial artists at most but even martial artists would not dare to take such hits with their bodies! Not even with Shi covering them.
Time seemed to be moving slowly and two minutes finally passed. Within those two minutes, the archers had fired five rounds of arrows, killing tens of thousands of Kalahari soldiers and even wounding several martial artists amongst them.
Only the wolfmen remained perfectly unharmed and were rushing over with mad glints in their red eyes.
The soldiers gulped at the scene but forced themselves to remain calm, their opponents were the ordinary soldiers and martial artists.
"Cavalry squad, move out! All battalions, attack!"
After firing five rounds of arrows and killing almost a hundred thousand soldiers, the distance between both armies was now less than a kilometre. The green-haired General finally gave the order for the soldiers to launch their charge.
"All sects, remember to keep the wolfmen occupied and prevent them from attacking the soldiers!" The General shouted before leading the charge personally.
He didn't say it, but all the sect leaders and elders knew what he meant; it would be a massacre if any of the wolfmen were allowed to go rampant amongst the soldiers; they definitely could not allow it!
"Charge!"
"Attack, kill those bastards!"
"Damned lunatics, die to my spear!"
The soldiers shouted their hearts out as they charged at the enemies.
Martial artists in colourful robes flew above their heads and charged at the incoming enemies. These were the sect leaders and elders of the ten sects, their targets were the wolfmen amongst the Kalahari soldiers.
Due to the last failed attack, the Kalahari army didn't have a lot of martial artists anymore. The few martial artists in the army rose into the air and charged at the martial artists from the ten sects, but how could the soldiers of the Cloud Dew Dynasty allow it? They also had martial artists in their army as well!
Martial artists in golden armour with dragon carvings flew into the air from the army of the Cloud Dew Dynasty, each of them releasing impressive auras. They held golden halberds, great swords, and long golden spears.
They were the martial artists of the army, and they were in charge of facing the martial artists of the opposite army, giving the sects the chance to focus on the wolfmen.
The green-haired soldier was the fastest to engage the enemy; he clashed with a bare-chested man who was holding two curved blades.
Boom!
Both men clashed in the air, and a strong shock wave crashed into the army on both sides; yellow sand scattered into the air due to the shockwave.
The two continued their fight, they exchanged hundreds of attacks in a fraction of a second.
Both sides were on equal footing, they were both level 7 martial artists!
Without saying a word, both of them flew higher into the sky to avoid implicating their armies.
They continued to exchange attacks in the sky, generating powerful wind and explosive sounds that rang through the battlefield.
Meanwhile, both armies clashed on the ground. The scene was like two fierce waves crashing into each other as the two armies mixed. A chaotic battle broke out.
Screams of pain and anger could be heard from all directions, and so could the sound of flesh being ripped and bones being shattered.
Bodies dropped like flies and blood flowed like a river.
In less than a minute after both armies collided, the ground around a kilometre radius had turned from yellow to bright red. Under the sunlight, it looked like countless black dots were dancing over a patch of glistening red wine.
The strong smell of blood drilled into the noses of the soldiers and filled them with mad frenzy, they fought ferociously without care for their lives.
The martial artists of both armies targeted each other. Martial arts techniques would randomly appear and crash into the middle of a group of soldiers, sending them flying with parts of their bodies missing.
Both sides were counting hundreds of casualties every second, it was a gruesome sight.
While both armies fought and killed each other, the representatives of the sects were busy with the wolfmen.
They fought amongst the soldiers and would take any opportunity to take out soldiers of the opposite side.
Currently, Leon was facing a wolfman who was two heads taller than him.
He gripped his great sword in his right hand and stabbed out casually, he didn't put too much strength into that stab.
Dang!
Instead of the feeling of his sword piercing through the wolf's flesh, a sound that was akin to two metals clashing rang in Leon's ears; the entire battlefield was buzzing with a similar sound anyway.
Leon turned to look in surprise, his eyes widened when he saw the tip of his sword had only stabbed a few centimetres into the wolf's skin.
Leon "..."
Didn't Bai Quing say that these wolfmen were only as strong as level 3 martial artists? Which level 3 martial artist would be able to take a stab from a level 5 like me even if it's a casual stab? My sword is even a graded weapon!
Leon was in great shock but was forced to move because the wolf suddenly swiped at him with its large paws and ten sharp claws.
He could see the visible white lines in the air that were created by the moving claws. Not only were those things incredibly sharp that they could tear the air but they were also fast!
Leon quickly pulled his sword away and moved back. The claws passed in front of his chest, and Leon wanted to deliver another attack but was suddenly faced with the hairy knee of the wolf.
Leon "..."
The fuck! What sort of beast fights like this?!
