Chapter 30. No Fusions Required
I looked at the field, and wondered if Jayden would get the card that could’ve ended this duel way earlier. I sighed while my frown deepened from how long this duel would take. Unknowing of Blair smiling at me for what she thought was me worrying about Jayden’s match.
“I Draw!!” Jayden yelled as he looked at his newly gained card. He flipped it over to reveal what it was. “I activate the spell card, Pot of Greed!! Allowing me to draw two cards!” He drew and smiled from what he saw. I gained a small smirk at what Jayden could pull out of his main character hat. “Alright! First! I’m going to destroy your Hyozanryu! So, Blade Edge!? Why don’t you attack that for me!?” Jayden cheered as his Blade Edge took off with its jetpack. It quickly slashed through Bastion’s Diamond Dragon, but as Bastion’s life points were lowering, his grin increased.

“I activate my trap card! Last Magnet! This attaches itself to the monster that destroyed one of my monster’s!” A giant magnet descended from the ceiling, forcing Blade Edge to carry it himself. “All of that weight makes it harder to attack, so it lowers his attack points by 800!” Jayden groaned as his monster weakened. “I throw down a face down, and end my turn!”

Bastion drew his next card, and pondered his move. “Water Dragon! Attack his Blade Edge!” Bastion called out his attack, and my frown deepened while watching Jayden. I saw his grin, and relaxed knowing that his face down would help him. “I activate my face down! Soul Union!!” Jayden yelled as the card flipped up on his side of the field. “This allows me to pick a hero from my graveyard, and let him help my monster being attacked by giving him all of their attack points!!”
Bastion’s eyes widened a bit as he thought about what the attack points for Jayden’s heroes were. “And I choose! Elemental Hero Sparkman! Giving my Blade Edge an extra 1600 attack points!”

Blade Edge while still holding this giant magnet above himself, quickly dodged from Water Dragon’s attack, and slashed Water Dragon in thirds while Bastion’s life points dwindled.

“Well unfortunately for you, when Water Dragon is destroyed, I get to re-summon all of the parts that made him! So Rise!! Hydrogeddon! Oxygeddon!”

Bastion had all of his cards summoned in attack mode for some reason, and I frowned wondering what his plan was. “I lay one card face down, and end my turn.” Jayden nodded, and began his turn. “I Draw!!” He looked at his card with a slight frown. ‘I think he got garbage…’ I knew that look the second I saw it. That's the look I always got when I dueled before. I would only get cards that didn’t help me at the moment. Like getting a ritual spell, and never finding my ritual monster. Not to mention his Blade Edge started losing his attack from the trap card.

“First! I place one card down in defense position!” I watched as Jayden’s little buddy disappeared, showcasing what monster he just laid down. “Now! Blade Edge! Attack Bastion’s Hydrogeddon!!” Blade Edge shot forward to attack the Hydrogeddon on the left of Bastion’s field, but just before the attack made contact, Bastion revealed his face down. “I activate my continuous trap! Spirit Barrier!! This allows me to not take any damage as long as I have a monster on my field!”
This didn’t stop his monster from being destroyed, but it did save his life points from being diminished further. “I end my turn then!” Jayden cheered from still hanging in. “I Draw!” Bastion looked at his cards, and gained a smile. “Uh oh…” I heard Blair say under her breath from seeing Bastion’s smile as well. “I activate the ritual spell, Litmus Doom Ritual!! I sacrifice both of my level 4 monsters on the field, to summon my level 8 Litmus Doom Swordsman!!”

“Litmus Doom Swordsman can’t be destroyed in battle, and traps don’t work on him. He’s basically invincible.” Jayden looked confused though. “But he doesn’t have any attack points.” Bastion scoffed as his monster started gaining attack points to a startling degree. “Whenever there is a trap card on the field, he gains 3000 attack and defense points.”

“And I’ll use those attack points to destroy your Blade Edge right now! Litmus Doom Swordsman! Attack!!” The swordsman jumped to the other side of the field, and quickly bisected Jayden’s monster while dealing a heavy blow to his life points.
600 Jayden ---- 600 Bastion
“I end my turn!” Bastion ended his turn with a satisfied smile, knowing he would win now. Jayden looked at his deck for a bit, hoping that he would get some card to get out of this. “I Draw!!” He looked at his new card with slight surprise, and I wondered what he pulled. Jayden’s smirk started to grow as he surprisingly looked up to meet my gaze. I was confused why he was focusing on us when he was almost in dire straits, but his smirk grew to a full blown smile.
“I play the spell card, O Oversoul!! This allows me to special summon a normal Elemental Hero from my graveyard! So show em what you got, Elemental Hero Burstinatrix!!”
Elemental Hero Burstinatrix/Warrior/Normal/Level 3/ Atk:1200 Def:800
“Jayden, you still can’t fuse her to anything remember? She doesn’t have enough attack points to destroy my Doom Swordsman.” Bastion said with mirth in his tone. Jayden snickered a bit while revealing his next card. “You have a point Bastion! Burstinatrix can’t attack your monster. But I can still destroy it with this!” He showcased his spell card that I forgot Jayden had. “I play the spell card Burst Impact!! You see, when I have Burstinatrix on my side of the field… I can play this!”
Bastion was confused by what the spell did, so Jayden explained with his smile widening. “All monster’s beside Burstinatrix are destroyed, and the controller of each monster gets dealt 300 points of damage for each one!!” Bastion was shocked, and rechecked his swordsman to see that it only blocked trap effects. Bastion’s monster was destroyed, and so was Jayden’s Winged Kuriboh. ‘I guess he didn't need him for defense after all.’
300 Jayden ---- 300 Bastion
“Now your field is wide open! So Burstinatrix!? Why don’t you finish this match up!? Attack Bastion’s life points directly!!” Jayden cheered as Burstinatrix quickly threw a fireball at bastion, and burned the rest of his life points.
