Lucian the Healer

Chapter 6: Six

Chapter 6

Lily's POV

Someone came bursting into the house as if in a hurry — strangely the person stopped.

"Who is there?" I asked.

No reply.

"Is anyone there?" I asked, checking to steel my stick.

I heard sniffing of tears. "Is it Mike? Or who?"

"Mike?" I said.

Before I knew it, the person hugged me and wept.

"Lil sis."

I knew it was Mike already.

"I can't believe it," he whispered.

He pulled from the hug, holding my hands.

"When did it happen?" he asked.

I told him everything and how it had happened and what the doctor said.

"OMG!" he exclaimed.

"Stop crying bro," I said, tracing his face.

"It's really terrible seeing you this way."

"I know right, but please try and be strong for me," I said.

"I'm really sorry sis, for this," he said.

"It's nobody's fault bro; maybe this is my fate."

"No Lily, you won't remain like this."

"I really hope so too," I said.

I rested my head on his shoulder; he smoothed my hair, calming me with reassuring words.

Lucian's POV

The following week, I sat in class and again Lily wasn't in school.

I chatted with some of my friends and classmates, waiting for the teacher and class to begin.

Some minutes later, Mrs. Adams, the principal, walked into our class.

We rose to greet her and she told us to take our seats.

I was feeling uneasy; it was rare for the principal to visit a class unless there was bad news.

"Good morning students," she said.

"You must all be wondering the reason for this once in a year visit. Well — let me go straight to the point. You might be aware that Lily Manchester was not in school since last week. A call from her dad came to me yesterday evening stating the reason for her absence."

I listened attentively; this is my opportunity to find out what's happening to her.

"Her dad told me that the reason she hasn't been in school is because she's in bad shape."

What does she mean by 'in bad shape'?

"Lily has gone blind," Mrs. Adams announced.

"What?" A loud gasp escaped from the class.

"I know guys, I'm also sad and still confused at how it happened," Mrs. Adams said.

"OMG!" I said. My palms felt sweaty — I felt like a part of me had been broken.

"We're going to her house tomorrow and I expect every one of you to tag along."

"That's all — see you tomorrow," she said.

With one last look, she walked out of the class.

I sank back to my chair, biting my lower lip; I was fighting the urge to cry.

How did it happen? When? Why?

I had a lot of questions hanging in my mind.

My other half is blind.
