Chapter 7: Conquering the Battleground
"Yes we got news earlier that 5 people would come here." Simon smiled.
But isn't that our secret mission? How did they gather the information? Do they have any kind of spies?
Simon perceived their conditions. So, he cleared the confusion. He said,"No, it's not like that. Look at the sky."After saying that, he pointed towards the sky and all of them started to find what Simon was trying to show.
They saw a group of vultures revolving around the sky. There are so many of them.
Emma asked, intrigued,"Are they vultures?"
Stella replied,"Not normal vultures. They are our specially- trained Desert Vultures. They are a completely different breed. They are only found here and in the Northern region of Africa, nowhere else."
Being astonished, Emma asked,"Are they that rare? How did you guys manage to find them? They seem extremely useful."
Travis said,"You are right Emma. They truly are worthy. We discovered them when they were merely eggs. The father as well as mother vulture died due to sandstorms. But these lucky chaps somehow survived. Stella is an absolute genius when it comes to taking care of something. She took care of them, fed them, and also helped us to train them."
Stella said,"You are exaggerating too much. It's not that tough. But the fact is you are so lazy."
Hearing this, everyone laughed except Massimo.
He was observing everything and finding what could be useful for him. That made him different from others. With a small thing, which is trash to others, he does amazing things with it.
Massimo asked,"That's the border of Tursia-Sparta along the far horizon, isn't it?"
Simon replied,"Sharp observation, right. But how do you understand?"
"There are soldiers marching at the borderline but one of their uniforms is not matching Barren Soldiers and Tursian soldiers. Secondly, the Sun is setting on my left side, so it's the North. And the Northern territory besides Tursia is Sparta. So I kind of guess that. Seems like I was right."
Unbelievable! This boy ain't a normal human. In the dim sunlight during sunset, things a few feet far away could hardly be seen. How did he saw the colour of their uniforms? I can't even see the soldiers clearly and I don't think others can either. His vision and powers of observation are to be admired.
"Yes you are correct. You have great observation power." Simon replied.
Simon and Travis guided them to visit their places. All of the places were fascinating. At last they came piles of dust, rocks covered ruined houses. Showing that, Travis said,"This place used to be our home before the War-attacks."
"The War has started? I thought it had not been announced on behalf of Tursia yet. I think I was wrong." Massimo said.
"Yeah, they have admitted from their side yesterday. So, the war has started. Unfortunately, the Tursian Army attacked our village first. Nobody would want to be the first in this case."
"Why, aren't this area belongs from Tursian territory?" Adam asked.
"It was until the previous year. But due to some territorial issues, this area now includes Spartan territory. Sparta is an ally of Barren. Personal grievance gained us nothing but we have lost a lot of people close to us." Simon gasped.
"That's the damn reason why I hate Tursia that much. Wait till we gather more man-power, then I will behead the King myself. Mark my words..." Massimo clenched his fists angrily saying that.
"Keep your mouth shut, Massimo. Control your emotions." Adam held Massimo tightly.
"I can't calm down now. The king himself will see the proof of my daring pursuit." Massimo's ears became red.
"There is a very fine line between Bravery and Stupidity. Don't cross the line." Adam said with a cold voice.
"Saying like that is easier for you cause you haven't lost your parents for the King's cruelty, have you? Those cheap people are simply sold for some money to the King. If they didn't, my parents were still be alive now and I would be independent." Massimo's throat sounded hoarse.
Adam put his hand on his back to calm him down then lowered his voice and said,"I can feel you. I have also lost someone close to me. I know losing a friend and losing parents are not the same thing, but Charles was not only my friend he was like my older brother. I was telling you to calm down as they are strangers. Though they became friends, we shouldn't reveal our emotions like that. We haven't known a lot about them. You are smart, that should be enough for you to understand."
Massimo remained silent.
The surrounding environment started getting heavy. The sky was cloudy, so it got dark earlier that night.
"We shouldn't be here anymore. Let's go to our tents, have dinner and rest." Simon said.
All of them silently followed the paths after Simon. Eight shadowy figures were seen moving through the desert sands in the darkness.
Barren-Tursia Border Area
The sky seemed roaring like a lion. A lightning flash tore the sky like a fork. Light rains have already started. Across the desolate plains, the air was quite thick with smoke as an indicator that the war had started. Shouts of soldiers were heard. Various armored soldiers from both territories stroke their swords and shields. Blood shed led to a river of blood.
But who cares?
Everyone is just waiting for the final result. No one cares about who died and who lived in the war.
The Commander Holmes, resembling an absolute beast, shouted,"Advance forward. Show them no mercy. Bring all of them to foot.
A Brave warrior stepped forward, raised his blade, his eyes burning with flame, emerging from nowhere. That made the enemies flinch, albeit momentarily. He was nobody but Mortal Cynane. He swung his sword twice in the air, then silenced two of the enemies forever. His speed was unmatched.
Then suddenly, a sound of cannon fire was heard. No one could guess where the sound came from. But this incident turned the tide of the war. Hundreds of Tursian Armies, including the Fort guards suffered death and the main wall of Tursia Fort fell down. A groan rang out between them.
But they were also not giving up so easily. They did not let it cause the other side to take advantage in any way. They countered the attack as soon as possible.
But it was almost confirmed that Tursia had lost the war. Due to the fall down of the wall, countless Barren forces climbed up the Fort, which was invulnerable. They set fire to the war supply room and the armory.
All the heart of the chaos, commander's orders were barely audible above the din, their voices hoarse from hours of shouting. Runners darted through the carnage, delivering messages that often arrived too late. Lines blurred as formations crumbled, and the battlefield became a mass of individuals fighting for survival. Screams filled the air combined with the clash of steels. Above it all, the sky remained indifferent, the storm clouds rolling in as if to mock the futility of the struggle below. Lightning illuminated the carnage in brief, blinding flashes, casting shadows that seemed to taunt the living. Rain began to fall heavily, mingling with blood and turning the battlefield into a blood-mud filled valley ground. And then, with a deafening roar, the war resumed-fiercer, bloodier, and more desperate than ever. There was no retreat, no reprieve.
