Lost in the Otherworld

Zodiac 29(1)

Gao Yang walked up to Niu Xuan. “What do you want?”

“Come play dice! Do you dare?”

Niu Xuan sat on the sofa next to the coffee table, exuding arrogance, determined to win this time. As soon as he finished speaking, someone by his side pressed the call button on the table.

Moments later, the door to the private room opened, and a young waitress entered. “Is there anything you need?”

The waitress wore a black and red uniform, a servant’s attire that could easily look tacky on most, but on her, it seemed custom-made, exuding an air of refinement, as if she truly belonged to some aristocratic manor—professional, elegant, humble.

She wore an adorable rabbit mask, creating a striking contrast with her poised demeanor, adding a layer of mystery.

Noticing the confusion in the room, she politely explained, “Today is Mr. Qin’s birthday, one of our esteemed VIPs. He was born in the year of the rabbit, so all the staff…”

“Alright, enough!” Niu Xuan interrupted impatiently. “What does someone else’s birthday have to do with me? Bring that space special… whatever it’s called.”

“The Galactic Illusion Cocktail, how many would you like?”

“Five rounds to start.”

“Well... it’s quite strong,” she glanced around, “for your group, I’d suggest two rounds would suffice.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? You think I can’t afford it?” Niu Xuan, already irritable, lashed out at the waitress.

“No, my apologies,” she bowed slightly, “Five rounds of Galactic Illusion. I’ll have it prepared immediately.”

Though Niu Xuan was yelling at the waitress, it was an uncouth display. Wan Sisi and the other girls felt embarrassed, pretending not to hear, and started singing to avoid the awkwardness.

Soon, the waitress returned, pushing a cart with five rounds of drinks. The glasses were small, elongated, resembling vials of biochemical agents, neatly arranged in a honeycomb tray made of white metal. Under the dazzling lights, they shimmered like liquid rainbows, evoking a distinct cyberpunk sci-fi vibe.

Niu Xuan grabbed the dice, full of bravado. “Big or small. Loser drinks. If you’re a man, don’t back down!”

Gao Yang thought, since you’ve put it this way, how could I refuse?

Niu Xuan was dead set on drinking Gao Yang under the table, making him embarrass himself in front of everyone. Gao Yang, the good student type, probably couldn’t handle more than three drinks, but Niu Xuan was different. He had been through countless drinking bouts; ten glasses were nothing.

After all, dice games don’t rely on skill—just luck!

“Bang!” Niu Xuan slammed the dice cup onto the table with exaggerated force. “Big or small?”

“You first,” Gao Yang said.

“Big!” Niu Xuan lifted the cup—three ones.

He paused for two seconds, then downed a glass in one gulp.

“Again! Big or small!” Niu Xuan glared at Gao Yang.

“You first,” Gao Yang gestured politely.

“You go first this time!” Niu Xuan, having learned from the last round, was cautious.

“Then I’ll choose big.”

Niu Xuan lifted the cup—three sixes.

He was stunned. Coincidence, it had to be coincidence! Niu Xuan drained his second glass, then pushed the dice cup toward Gao Yang. “You shake.”

“Alright.” Gao Yang gave it a few shakes and set it down. “Big or small?”

“Big,” Niu Xuan said.

As Gao Yang was about to lift the cup, Niu Xuan suddenly placed his hand over it. “Wait! Small!”

“Alright.”

“Wait… no…”

“So, big or small?” Gao Yang asked.

“Big! No more changes!” Niu Xuan declared.

Gao Yang lifted the cup—three ones.

Niu Xuan was dumbfounded. Was this guy cheating?

He immediately switched to a new dice cup, inspecting it thoroughly, even checking under the table for any hidden mechanisms. Satisfied, he started shaking the dice.

This time, he shook for a full minute, his hand growing sore before finally setting it down.

“You pick first!”

“Big…”

“I choose big!” Niu Xuan quickly interjected.

“Then I’ll choose small.”

Niu Xuan lifted the cup—three ones.

Niu Xuan’s composure crumbled. The two boys watching nearby couldn’t help but exclaim, “Damn! Gao Yang, your luck is unreal!”

Infuriated and losing control, Niu Xuan downed another drink, throwing the glass violently to the floor, shattering it into pieces. “Again!”

The girls, who had been singing, shrieked as the glass splintered, startled. One shard grazed Wan Sisi’s leg, leaving a thin cut.

A bespectacled girl, Luo Xiaodan, Wan Sisi’s close friend, crouched down to examine the wound, fuming with anger. Normally, she wouldn’t dare cross someone like Niu Xuan, a wealthy young master, but this time she’d had enough.

“It’s fine… it’s just a scratch,” Wan Sisi tried to pull her back.
