Chapter 178 Lies (Large Chapter)
It was nine o'clock at night.
The night sky was clear and the dark canvas was full of twinkling stars, shining tirelessly.
A bright moon hung in the sky, casting a silver glow.
A black Mercedes G500 stopped in front of Daisy's house.
Luke got out of the car and, seeing that Daisy's house was dark, guessed that she probably wasn't home yet.
He was too lazy to enter the house alone, so he simply sat on a chair in the yard to wait for her.
Every banquet must come to an end. David's departure left Luke feeling somewhat nostalgic, though the Robbery and Murder Department was just downstairs, things would inevitably be different.
Despite his many flaws, David had been a good partner to Luke, always watching over him in his own way.
Working often with suspects, the Robbery and Murder Department inevitably had to deal with some of the dirtier and more tiring tasks, which David always faced head-on.
Luke used to be like his little brother, except that little brother had grown up and even surpassed him.
As the former "big brother," David's feelings were complex, a mix of pride, envy, helplessness, and turmoil...
Everyone has their own thoughts, and David's move to the Anti-Gang and Narcotics Department as a deputy leader was good for his career.
In the long run, it wasn't a bad thing for Luke either; one cannot always stay confined within a small circle.
The larger one's circle of friends, the more friends one has, and the wider the roads one travels.
David's transition to the Anti-Gang and Narcotics Department wouldn't sever his relationship with Luke. The two shared a bond forged through life-and-death experiences, and if there's ever a need for help from that department, Luke could just go straight to David.
"Woowoo..."
A red sports car pulled up in front of Daisy's garage, and Daisy stepped out of the driver's seat, "Why didn't you go in?"
"Felt like getting some fresh air suddenly."
"Something on your mind?"
"My former partner transferred jobs, I'm just not quite used to it yet."
"The bald guy named David?"
"That's right," Luke stood up and wrapped his arm around Daisy's waist, "Let's not talk about him anymore, let's go inside."
Once they were at home.
At Luke's suggestion, the two of them took a bath together.
It wasn't until eleven o'clock at night that they lay down in bed to rest.
Daisy, covered with a thin quilt, was dozing off; she had been working all day and her body was exhausted.
Luke patted her smooth back, "Daisy, when do you have time? How about we go out and relax a bit together?"
Daisy turned over to a more comfortable position, her eyes still closed, "Where do you want to go for fun?"
Luke said, "It depends on your schedule. If you can take a long break, we can go somewhere far, like Hawaii, Las Vegas, New York.
If your time off is short, we'll just wander around nearby."
Daisy laughed, "When I have a break, I like to lie in bed and sleep in. I don't want to go anywhere."
Luke considerately replied, "Then we'll rent an RV, I'll drive you around, and you can sleep as long as you like on the road. When you wake up, we can go straight to sightseeing spots."
Daisy opened her eyes and touched Luke's chin, "That doesn't sound too bad."
Luke held her hand gently, "It's definitely a good plan, it just depends if you have the time."
Daisy yawned, "No problem, I'll arrange some time. You won't have to complain again about me being a workaholic."
Luke hesitated for a moment before probing, "By the way, has anyone been looking for you recently?"
"What do you mean?"
"I met a guy named Lawrence Miller, who claims to be your father."
Daisy suddenly sat up, forgetting to cover herself with the quilt, revealing her beautiful curves.
"Lawrence came to see you?"
Luke organized his words and shared the whole experience of meeting with Lawrence Miller exactly as it had happened.
"Sigh..."
Daisy let out a soft sigh and said gloomily, "How could there be such a person who has the nerve to call himself my father, asking me to help with his so-called son's case, what a bastard."
Luke said, "I pretended to be drunk and didn't agree to pass on his message. He might not know that you're aware of it too. What's your plan?"
Daisy went silent for a while, shaking her head, "I don't want to see him, and I'm not going to help him with the case.
You did the right thing. Don't see that guy again; he's not worth your effort."
"I understand," Luke was cautious because he was unsure of Daisy's feelings.
Now that he knew Daisy's stance,
since she didn't care about her so-called father, there was no reason for Luke to care either.
After a while, Daisy asked proactively, "What did Lawrence tell you?"
"He mentioned some things from your childhood and the reason for his divorce from your mother."
"I can't believe he still remembers stuff from my childhood. What did he say?"
Luke briefly recounted the conversation.
Snorting, Daisy's eyes reddened as she calmed her emotions, "It's all lies, it wasn't at all like he said. My parents were only divorced for 18 years, and that so-called brother of mine is 19 years old. He had already been unfaithful before the divorce.
What's more infuriating is that he was unwilling to pay child support and alimony.
To escape responsibility, he started transferring assets before they got married and pretended to go bankrupt afterwards.
My mother was just a housewife, dedicated to taking care of the family, she would even squeeze the toothpaste for him, deceived by his lies until the day before their divorce.
After the divorce, I lived with my mother.
My mother not only had to look after me but also work to earn money. Our life was very hard, but he never cared or asked.
This is why I became a lawyer. This is why I work so hard."
