Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 172: Closing the Case_3

Jefferson retorted, "Are you complaining about me? Who killed Darcy? If you hadn't killed Darcy, we wouldn't be in this mess."

Jefferson's wife pointed at her husband's nose and scolded, "Bullshit, you dare to blame me!

"You know very well what Darcy was like. If Darcy hadn't gotten involved with the people from the Robbery and Murder Department, they wouldn't have traced it back to the farm.

"That guy had to die. Why do you think the police found his body so quickly?

"He sold Holy Blood that led to someone's death; the cops were already watching him.

"If he hadn't died, he would definitely have been caught by the police, and he would have ratted you out first.

"You should be thanking me, because it was I who saved you, not complaining to me."

Jefferson's momentum weakened, "I'm not complaining; I just think you sometimes act too impulsively."

"You're right, the most impulsive thing I've done in my life was marrying you."

Jefferson raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, "OK, I don't want to argue with you anymore. Let's just quickly tidy up these things and bury them somewhere no one knows, then this matter will be behind us.

"We can go back to living a peaceful life."

While moving things, Jefferson's wife complained, "If you hadn't agreed to work with Darcy in the first place, we wouldn't have all these troubles now."

Jefferson sighed, "You know the situation with the farm. After working hard for a year, paying the workers and taxes, there's barely any profit left.

"I just wanted to earn a bit more for our retirement. We haven't been to Hawaii in two years, and you know that's your favorite place."

"You liar," Jefferson's wife grumbled, her tone softening.

After their argument, the couple quickly made up and arranged the items at the entrance of the cellar. Finally, Jefferson climbed up the ladder, ready to haul the items outside with a rope.

However, as soon as he opened the cellar hatch, he was blinded by a burst of intense light. When he looked carefully, he saw people everywhere.

"LAPD, Jefferson Cassiri, you are under arrest."

...

The timeline rewinds to two days earlier.

Susan obtained a search warrant.

After some discussion, they didn't act immediately but decided to investigate the potential cellar secretly at night.

That night, Luke, the deputy team leader, led an operation for the first time.

To avoid detection by Jefferson, Luke and his team parked several miles away and walked to the farm.

After observing through binoculars and seeing no sign of Jefferson, they sneaked into the northeast corner of the farm to look for the cellar.

With a thorough search, they indeed found a hidden cellar.

After infiltrating the cellar, Luke and his team found tools hidden inside, sufficient evidence that the farm was the production base for Holy Blood.

At that moment, David suggested they immediately arrest the Jefferson couple, but Luke rejected the idea.

The equipment, vessels, cattle blood, and the unique substance indeed proved the couple's connection with Holy Blood.

But they didn't find the murder weapon that killed Darcy in the cellar.

After taking photographs as evidence, Luke decided to wait.

Those devices couldn't be left there forever; the Jeffersons were bound to deal with them. Luke installed hidden cameras and listening devices to see what the couple would do.

Luke's arrangements weren't in vain.

The conversation between the husband and wife just now was enough to prove their involvement in the production of Holy Blood and that Jefferson's wife was Darcy's murderer.

This evidence would be crucial for the subsequent interrogation.

Soon the couple was taken back to the police station. Faced with the surveillance, recordings, and a mass of evidence, they soon confessed.

They admitted to collaborating with Darcy in making Holy Blood. Darcy provided the unique substance, and they provided cattle blood. As for the source of the substances, they did not know; Darcy was responsible for purchasing them.

As for the murder weapon that killed Darcy, it was a phlebotomy resin glass vessel.

It had already been destroyed by the couple, making it useless as conclusive evidence.

This indirectly proved the correctness of Luke's decision at the time; without the audio and video evidence, it would have been difficult to convict the Jeffersons.

This was also considered Luke's first victory since his promotion to deputy team leader.
