Chapter 171: Slick Moves (Long Chapter)
Norli Plaza.
Today, a memorial service for Angela was to be held here.
The memorial service was organized by Angela's manager, Jinmu.
Early around seven in the morning, Jinmu arrived at the site to set up, arranging photographs, flowers, banners, and posters of albums, and Angela's latest album music was playing in the square.
No matter the reason behind Jinmu's organization of the memorial service, it was indeed heartfelt.
Early in the morning, many of Angela's fans came out of respect, some helping with the site setup, others offering flowers, and even a few dressed in vampire costumes, each mourning Angela in their own way.
In a Ford Explorer on the east side of the plaza, Xiao Hei and Luke sat in the car, observing the fans who came to mourn.
In fact, this memorial service was covertly propelled by the police, aimed to capture Angela's murderer.
Earlier, Luke and Xiao Hei had investigated a black clinic, acquired the suspect's surveillance footage, and obtained the suspect's DNA sample, which matched the blood DNA samples found outside of the farm.
It could be confirmed that the man treated for gunshot wounds at the clinic was the person Luke and his team were searching for.
Unfortunately, the suspect was very cautious and had not left any identification information. Although the police had obtained his surveillance photo and DNA, they still could not determine his identity in the short term.
Of course, if they issued an arrest warrant with a photo and DNA, the chances of capturing the man were very high.
But the timing could not be determined, and the police could not wait forever. With millions of people in Los Angeles, searching for one person was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
Therefore, the police had to take the initiative to force the suspect to come out.
This memorial service was precisely a comprehensive trap designed for the suspect.
Xiao Hei sat in the driver's seat, somewhat boredly staring out the window, "Do you think the suspect will really come?"
"It's very likely."
Xiao Hei thought for a moment, "If it were me, I definitely wouldn't come, it's too risky."
Luke said, "That's why you haven't killed anyone, nor have you bitten your own idol."
If everyone in this world was rational and did things according to logic, then there wouldn't be so many criminals in prison.
Some people are just special.
Luke had profiled the suspect, and from the existing evidence, the suspect was likely a diehard fan of Angela, who killed her for some special reason, but that did not mean he disliked Angela.
The fact that he still held a silver pendant in his hand during surgery showed that he still had a deep affection for Angela.
He did not know that the police were on his trail, nor did he know that the police had obtained his surveillance image, which was an advantage for the police.
Luke guessed that once he knew of Angela's memorial service being held here, he would definitely come to attend, to bid Angela a final farewell.
Time ticked by, from morning to noon, and from noon to evening.
Lunch and dinner were both handled in the car.
At first, there were quite a few police officers around the square, but since the suspect did not show up, patrol cops gradually left the area.
By eight pm, only the members of the Robbery and Murder Department remained.
While Xiao Hei usually trusted Luke, their teamwork often led them to follow Luke's lead.
But today they had been waiting for more than ten hours.
Marcus also couldn't help but waver, had Luke guessed wrong this time?
Xiao Hei yawned, "Luke, how much longer do we have to wait?"
Luke shifted in his seat, "The more critical the moment, the less we can afford to rush. It's said that a journey of a hundred miles is half undone at ninety. Now is the time to outlast the suspect. We need to keep our cool now more than ever."
Xiao Hei said, "Do you know? I've been sitting in the car all day, and my butt hurts."
"Then go take a walk around, and while you're at it, buy me a cup of coffee, no sugar."
Xiao Hei "…"
Just then, a man appeared in the square, looking around suspiciously.
Although it had already gotten dark, the square was still bright with lights.
It was clearly visible that he was a Caucasian man, wearing a black cloak.
If he appeared anywhere else, the man's attire would seem very unusual, but showing up at Angela's memorial service, it did not seem so out of place.
Luke's gaze swept over the man, feeling that he looked very much like the suspect they were supposed to apprehend.
But due to the observation angle and the distance, Luke could not be entirely sure.
Luke opened the car door and got out.
Xiao Hei also followed suit, "Where are you going?"
Luke nodded his chin in a direction.
Xiao Hei looked in the direction Luke indicated.
He also noticed the Caucasian man in the black cloak.
The Caucasian man in the black cloak walked up to the photo of Angela being mourned.
The man stood quietly in front of the photo, his eyes red, his expression sorrowful.
The man reached out his right hand, seemingly attempting to touch Angela's photo, but he withdrew his hand halfway, as if fearful of something.
Just then, the Caucasian man seemed to hear a noise and turned his head back to see a black-haired youth and a black man approaching him.
He was about to leave, but the black-haired youth blocked him, "Buddy, could you spare a lighter?"
The Caucasian man said indifferently, "Sorry, I don't smoke."
Using the opportunity while talking, Luke and Xiao Hei confirmed the identity of the Caucasian man, he was indeed the injured person they had seen in the black clinic.
Xiao Hei made a split-second decision, drew his pistol, and yelled at the Caucasian man, "LAPD, don't move, you're under arrest."
