Lord of the Sky City

Chapter 878

Cyril's proposal caused an uproar among almost all the elders as soon as it was raised—this task was simply too daunting.

How could she want the family to act as the vanguard in both attacking and defending Kasin City?

The family had just endured the defense battle at Qingyuan City and arrived here without a moment's rest. Under such circumstances, if they were to take on the task of attacking and defending Kasin City, the family forces would be completely overwhelmed. They might not succeed, and even if they did, the cost would be devastating. This was absolutely unacceptable to the elders.

"Clan Leader, we implore you to reconsider this matter!"

"Yes, Clan Leader, we simply don't have the capacity right now."

"Clan Leader!"

In an instant, all the elders voiced their objections. However, despite their protests, Cyril had already made up her mind.

"I am not discussing this matter with any of you—I am merely notifying you."

Looking around at everyone sharply, Cyril spoke with absolute authority. At that moment, she suddenly understood why Rocky had made such a suggestion to her. In this critical moment of the family's survival, endless debates and bickering could no longer tie them down. It was time for someone to take a stand.

And so, after saying those words, Cyril left the conference room without waiting for anyone to respond, leaving ten elders sitting there with nowhere to vent their frustrations.

"Cyril… has grown up…"

Watching Cyril's departing figure, one elder began to relax his frown and finally sighed toward the others: "Everyone, let's follow Cyril this time. After all, she is the Clan Leader."

After saying that, the elder stood and left the conference room. This elder wasn't just any other person—he was Bernardo's father. Three other elders left alongside him. These elders, aligned by faction, were supporters of Atted, and by extension, Cyril. Naturally, they strongly endorsed Cyril's decision, which was why they followed suit and left.

This left only six elders remaining in the conference room.

"We absolutely cannot let Cyril proceed with this plan."

As the other elders departed, one of the remaining six spoke up, his tone heavy: "Cyril is treating the family as if it were a gift on a platter. She's willing to do anything to flatter Rocky, completely disregarding everything else!"

"Even so, what choice do we have?"

Another elder interjected at this point, though his voice carried a trace of helplessness: "Rocky's influence is unmatched, and Cyril is the Clan Leader. What can we possibly do…"

"Rocky is beyond our reach, true, and there's no need to provoke him. But Cyril is still part of the family."

"Exactly. This family cannot become her personal domain!"

"Are you suggesting…?"

"If she cannot make decisions for the family's benefit, then we must find someone else who can—someone who truly considers the family's best interests—as Clan Leader."

Clearly, these elders were no fools. Cyril's behavior today made it evident that her attitude toward the elders had shifted in ways they found unacceptable. As such, their focus had moved away from questioning Cyril's decision itself and turned instead toward Cyril as a person.

In trying to protect their own interests and authority, they were prepared to support the replacement of Cyril as Clan Leader. For them, this was no different from how Cyril had originally ascended to the position—back then, they had chosen Cyril precisely because she had the closest ties to Rocky and they wanted to avoid further retaliation from him. But now, if Cyril began to undermine their positions, they wouldn't hesitate to choose someone else.

It must be said that Cyril still had some immaturity in handling such matters. If her father Atted had been in her position, he might have resolved the issue more skillfully and with greater tact—albeit slowly—at least without revealing his true intentions so openly.

However, from another perspective, this may have been intentionally done by Cyril. Time was truly not on the family's side. After finally securing an opportunity to align with the hugely influential Rocky, the family needed to demonstrate its worth as much as possible, or how could it hope to sustain itself?

At this crucial juncture, Cyril had clearly decided to embrace Rocky's advice and chose the most direct way to assert her authority as Clan Leader.

Thus, the next day, Cyril met with Rocky and expressed her intentions to have the family's forces act as the vanguard in both attacking and defending Kasin City.

"Are you confident?"

Upon hearing her, Rocky showed little surprise. If he were in Cyril's position, he would have made the same decision—and in fact, he had done similar things in the past, such as selling Tank Armor to the Sky Alliance to prove his own value.

"Yes, the family still has one fight left in it."

Cyril's response was unwavering as she met Rocky's question.

"Alright, I approve. I'll have the detailed information about Kasin City sent to you so that you can prepare in advance."

Rocky agreed to Cyril's request without asking too many detailed questions. It wasn't that he genuinely believed that the Mairente Family still had enough strength to fight. Instead, he placed his trust in Cyril, and he also needed to give her the opportunity to prove the family's value. Ultimately, the choice to collaborate was entirely in Rocky's hands.

Rocky could keep Cyril around—that was certain, both due to familial bonds and the emotional debt he owed her for helping him multiple times in the past. But if the rest of the Mairente Family proved completely worthless, he wouldn't hesitate to abandon them, for he had no personal ties to anyone else in the family.

Seeing Rocky nod his approval, Cyril felt a weight lift from her heart, allowing her thoughts to immediately turn to how the family could accomplish the task at hand.

For the Mairente Family, this mission was undeniably challenging. After the grueling battle at Qingyuan City, the family forces were left depleted and had received no reinforcements. With their remaining strength, how could they seize Kasin City and hold it? A detailed plan was absolutely essential—otherwise, not only would substantial losses be incurred, but the family could also lose face in front of Rocky.

These considerations prompted Cyril to leave Thunderhawk City shortly after and return to Machine City to discuss the matter with Bernardo, who was currently the commander of the family's forces.

Meanwhile, after Cyril left, Rocky returned to his study, where another person was already waiting. As Rocky entered and took a seat, he casually drank tea and said, "Uncle Atted, where were we in our conversation earlier?"

The person sitting in Rocky's study at that moment was Cyril's father, Atted!
