Lord of the Sky City

Chapter 876: Dictatorship

Regarding the things Yami said back then, as Rocky recalls them now, he can't help but feel a bit strange, sensing there might be some secrets hidden within, secrets that are unknown to others.

Of course, this isn't surprising, considering that the Great Demon itself is an enigma in this world, and anything related to it naturally remains a secret.

So Rocky temporarily set the matter aside, turned to Cyril, and asked, "Have the family elders been settled?"

As soon as he asked this question, there was a subtle change in Cyril's expression, and she opened her mouth to speak, "Rocky, are you planning to form an alliance?"

Looking at Rocky, Cyril voiced the question that most puzzled her, wanting to know if Rocky intended to form his own alliance. This was not only something she wanted to know but also what the family elders wanted to know.

Because Rocky's actions now, in many people's eyes, seemed like forming his own alliance, which was normal for him, considering his strength was more than sufficient. However, this matter was different for others.

If Rocky wanted to form an alliance, he would undoubtedly be the Alliance Hierarch, which was indisputable. But if he were to be the leader, he would have to bear the responsibility and obligations associated with it, including the interests of the alliance members. This was what the Mairente Family was most concerned about, specifically the family elders were more concerned with this issue.

In the eyes of those family elders, if Rocky truly wanted to form an alliance, then the alliance would undoubtedly be extremely powerful, involving more interests. These were exactly what the Mairente Family elders were concerned about. They weren't presumptuous enough to want a share from Rocky; they just wanted to know what Rocky could offer them.

"No, I'm not interested in an alliance."

However, after Cyril posed the question, Rocky merely shook his head, laughingly stating that he had no intention whatsoever of forming any alliance.

This was his honest answer.

When it comes to alliances, Rocky was quite familiar, having dealt with many, whether it be the Sky Alliance or others. For this reason, he was extremely uninterested in them.

In today's world, alliances seemed neither here nor there to him; though the members were very close, they never formed a solid, unified block. Rocky felt today's alliances were particularly like bandit dens under a mountain king, appearing vast, but the moment the mountain king falls, everything would collapse in disarray.

Back then, alliances like the War Alliance and Domination Alliance were such that after losing to the Sky Alliance, these once-vast alliances almost crumbled overnight. Within these alliances, Rocky couldn't see any centripetal force or cohesion, much less loyalty and trust.

He had also pondered why alliances in the sky turned out this way and discovered it seemed like an inevitable result. The uniqueness of Sky City led to low dependency between cities, excluding considerations like geopolitical factors. This directly made it difficult for cities to build genuine trust or reliance on each other, meaning no alliance could truly form centripetal force and cohesion, not even the Sky Alliance.

Under these circumstances, Rocky had no interest in establishing an alliance. Even though he was fully capable of becoming an Alliance Hierarch, he had other plans instead.

However, Cyril didn't understand Rocky's thinking, and upon hearing his response, she was stunned.

In Cyril's view, if Rocky didn't intend to form an alliance or become an Alliance Hierarch, then she and the Mairente Family wouldn't have protection!

Just as she was about to speak, Rocky spoke first, "Cyril, tell me, how does the family usually make decisions?"

"What?"

Rocky's question left Cyril stunned for a long time, completely unable to understand why Rocky would ask this. But after regaining her senses, she said, "No matter if it's the elders or the Clan Leader, if there's any proposal, the family will hold an Elders' Council meeting and vote on it."

"Was everything the family did to me back then also passed this way?"

"Yes..."

Unexpectedly, Rocky suddenly brought up the past, and Cyril's face changed immediately. But fortunately, Rocky didn't frighten her for long, as he promptly asked, "Did Uncle Atted oppose back then?"

"Yes..."

By this point, Cyril was completely bewildered, having no idea what Rocky intended with his questions, so she just nodded. When the family aimed against Rocky, and especially during the later actions, her father did indeed express his opposition clearly.

This response made Rocky nod, then he looked at Cyril and said, "In a century of chaos, whether it's a city or a family trying to survive, you can't let others babble constantly."

"Whether a city or a family, what's needed isn't a crowd of chattering councils but a strong City Lord, a strong Clan Leader. Without someone to shoulder all the responsibilities, it's impossible to survive in this world."

"Do you understand?"

Looking at Cyril, Rocky said this slowly but with great seriousness.

Cyril was stunned upon hearing his words; she never expected Rocky to tell her such things after going on about it for so long.

Is he suggesting that she abolish the Elders' Council?

Of course, Cyril could understand what Rocky was implying. He clearly wanted her to strip the family elders of their power, letting her alone lead the entire family.

Yes, that was exactly Rocky's point, because he felt the Mairente Family was about to be ruined by those elders!

Rocky didn't have much emotional connection to the Mairente Family, but precisely because of this, he saw the family more clearly. In his view, the family had reached its current state primarily due to the irreconcilable involvement of the family elders.

Since everything in the family needed the elders' collective decision-making, it led to numerous factions within. These factional struggles have dragged the family into a hopeless situation, including Cyril's father, Atted.

Atted could be considered a strategically brilliant Clan Leader. Although it was initially his decision that led to Rocky being ousted from the family, once he recognized Rocky's potential, he attempted to mend the relationship. However, likely due to long-standing influence from internal family disputes, Atted ended up scheming against Lexington and Kelly, eventually prioritizing conflicts, making it his first agenda.

In such circumstances, neither Atted nor Lexington, who later became the Clan Leader, could stop themselves from repeating the same erroneous decisions, ultimately leading the family into an abyss.

Now that the family had suffered a blow, Rocky believed it was the right time to help Cyril change the family's atmosphere.
