Chapter 14: Pops Antique Shop
"Because of the need to deal with strange supernatural phenomena, Enchanter criminals, mysterious realms and the occasional out-of-control trouble which police can't handle, the Church has a very important policing responsibility in the Kingdom.".
With that said, a document was thrust in front of Jenkins.
"This is an entry contract for a secret security company under the Church."
"A security company?"
With such a modern word suddenly appearing in this fantasy style of conversation, Jenkins couldn't help but repeat it.
"Yes, times are different, Mr. Williams. The mercenary regiments and adventurers of the past need to adapt in order to find a way to merge in society, and the security companies are actually similar in the way that they get paid to do their jobs, like in the stories. By the way, as a reminder, these agencies under the Church are secret departments, and in normal times they would never show their connection to us, so these things you see and hear are never allowed to be revealed."
"Okay."
Jenkins nodded, then suddenly realised that he knew too much.
"But sir, I'm only a new recruit, is it really okay for you to show me all this spooky information?"
"It's okay."
Bincy waved his hand, "We're comfortable with the fact that you'll be signing a confidentiality pact in a moment."
"Then I'm not at ease."
Jenkins thought silently.
"This security company contract is just an example, it's a place which I wouldn't recommend for a rare healer like you."
No sooner had Jenkins finished reading that contract than it was taken back.
"Newcomers, unless the World Enchantment ability and the Soul Trait ability are both combat types, are not usually assigned to the combat department. Fresh blood in the combat department usually comes from enchanters who have advanced to the first level and are in a combat profession."
"Great !, professions check, abilities and levels check, now they just need some equipment and it will become an online game. Wait......isn't a Class C [enchantment] just an equipment?"
Jenkins said to himself surreptitiously, then spoke.
"The truth is the combat department is indeed too dangerous for me, so what would you recommend sir?"
"I appreciate your attitude."
Bincy smiled at Jenkins and nodded, reaching out to remove three of the many papers from the table. It looked like he already knew which ones were more suitable for Jenkins.
"I need to repeat again, because there is no church of [Nature's Spirit] or [Mother Earth] in Nolan City, there is a lack of appropriate healing ability holders, so naturally awakened healing abilities are very valuable. I have heard from Bishop Parrold that you have had a normal secondary education, which is good, as it means that you will get more relaxed and indoor work"
The documents in front of Jenkins belonged to three different professions, but presumably because they all belonged to the Church of [Books and Knowledge], the contracts were in exactly the same format all made.
The one on the left hand side belonged to [Nolan's Fifth Public Hospital], the one in the centre was [Good Luck Plumbing], and on the right hand side was [Pops Antique Shop].
Something strange seemed to have come up.
"The psychiatric department of Nolan Public Hospital No. 5 is our stronghold, and the nature of the [Mysterious realm] and it have been noticed that those who use it or are around it have a high probability of mental disorders, so it is necessary to place a stronghold in the psychiatric department to gather information. But I hope you don't pick this one, the Fifth Psychiatric Hospital in Nolan is haunted these days, yes ghosts exist too, don't be so surprised. The matter remains unresolved and there have been sacrifices made by the Gravekeeper squad. Although the psychiatric waiting department is a long way from the children's department where the incident took place, it is an eventful time ......"
"I understand."
Jenkins immediately reached out and pushed the contract back, in his last life he had been somewhat afraid of ghosts, and although he wasn't a normal person now, there was no way a long-standing habit could be broken so quickly. And someone had already warned against going there recently at last night's party.
"Very well, you should shrink when it's time to shrink back, it's a necessary trait for a qualified Enchanter."
Bincy said, pointing to the second.
"Good Luck Steam Plumbing, the second largest steam plumbing company within the Nolan metropolitan area. We have a stronghold in the after-sales service department and your job will be to follow the seniors around knocking on doors and reading meters. The point of this job is that you will be able to go without incident on certain occasions when it is not appropriate for combat troops to go out directly."
"I understand, it's of the same nature as opening doors to deliver warmth in the community, read water meter and complete the mission of dongfeng express"
( TN: Dongfeng express do meter reading company in some parts of china)
Jenkins thought with an unchanged expression.
"Pops Antiques, Papa Oliver is looking for an apprentice. You should be able to think that his responsibility there is to recover the [mysterious objects] [transcendent objects] and [enchantments] that have fallen into the hands of the market and ordinary people. Not only does our church have such a subordinate department, the other four churches all have them in Nolan City, only everyone is hidden. But let me warn you, antiques are really for sale there, so once you choose Papa Oliver, you will have to follow him to learn about antique identification and shopkeeping."
With that said, Bincy retrieved the rest of the papers, bumped them a few times on the desk and folded them neatly, placing them to the left of the vacant one in front of Jenkins.
"Bishop Parrold instructed me to recommend a few safe and easy jobs for you, which is why I picked these out on purpose. If you are not satisfied, you can choose from the rest, but I still do not approve of you choosing the combat department."
Bishop Parrold's kindly smiling face reappeared in Jenkins' mind, he didn't expect that old man to appear before Bincy on purpose, for this matter.
He felt warmth in his heart, and even though Bishop Parrold's kindness was directed at the original owner, Jenkins still enjoyed the feeling of being cared for.
"I'll take Pop's Antiques."
He pondered for just a moment before pushing back the contract from the plumbing company. The antique shop job went very well with [The Eye of Reality], Jenkins intended to make good use of his golden finger (cheat), and the plumbing company job involved running around, while the antique shop apprenticeship was an indoor job. No matter how you compare it, the latter was better.
What's more, Jenkins loved the name ' Pop's antique' so much that he had a natural preference for it.
"Mr. Williams, are you sure? It's only four o'clock in the afternoon and we have plenty of time for you to look at the remaining options."
Captain Bincy seemed to be surprised at Jenkins' decisiveness.
"I've thought it over, the easy work in the antique shop, the ability to contribute to the church, and the ability to learn new knowledge and trades while working are all excellent.
