Morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a dim glow over the room. Nuxsus stirred, blinking as his mind adjusted to wakefulness. A slow smirk tugged at his lips when he glanced to his right—Harley, completely naked, tangled in the sheets, still fast asleep.
Before he could even enjoy the silence, a familiar voice echoed in his mind.
"Good morning, dear little flame… Or perhaps I should call you the 'bed monster' after what you did to that fool yesterday. Truly savage."
Nuxsus sighed, watching as Chaos materialized before him, her form flickering like a mirage.
"You a voyeur or something?" he muttered as he sat up, stretching.
Chaos chuckled, her crimson eyes gleaming with mischief. "Oh, please. It's not like I 'wanted' to watch. I'm stuck with you, remember? But," she tilted her head, smirking, "I won't lie—I 'enjoyed' the show."
Nuxsus rolled his eyes, ignoring her antics as he stood and began pulling on his clothes.
From behind him, Harley yawned, stretching lazily. "Mister Nux! You're already up? Aww, I was hoping for round two! I had so much fun last night! Maybe this can be a habit?"
Nuxsus barely spared her a glance, already shifting gears. "You know a way to find that shipment?" he asked, his voice all business. "Didn't exactly think about that part before we got here."
Harley blinked, thinking. "Hmm… can't we just stake out the road until the shipment arrives?"
Nuxsus turned to her slowly, expression flat. "Are you actually that stupid?" he deadpanned. "Do you even know which road they're taking?"
Harley pouted. "Well, no…"
Chaos giggled, leaning against the air like it was a throne. "Did you forget about me?" she teased. "If you find someone connected to the shipment and kill them, I can read their memories for you."
Nuxsus smirked, turning back to Harley. "See? Try to be more useful like her."
Harley crossed her arms, huffing. "Jeez, no need to be mean about it." She tapped her chin, thinking for a moment. Then her eyes lit up. "Oh! Maybe Lisa could help? Lisa Snart! I haven't worked with many folks in Central City, but she used to be in the business. Put the life of crime behind her, though… but her brother? He's still in the game. If anyone knows, it's him."
Nuxsus grinned. "Perfect." He cracked his knuckles. "Lisa will lead us to her brother. Lead the way."
Harley giggled, hopping out of bed. "You got it, boss!"
...
Harley knocked on the apartment door, rocking on her heels with a wide grin.
"Coming!" A muffled voice called from inside.
A few seconds later, the door cracked open, revealing a woman with short, dark hair and tired eyes. The moment Lisa saw who was standing at her doorstep, her expression darkened.
"Harley," she muttered, crossing her arms. "What the hell do you want?"
Harley pouted, tilting her head playfully. "Awww, that's no way to greet an old friend! Missed me?"
Lisa scoffed. "We worked together once, and you almost got me killed, so no, we are not friends. And I don't want anything to do with whatever crazy shit you're mixed up in now."
She started to close the door, but before it could click shut, a firm hand gripped the edge and forced it open.
Lisa's eyes snapped up, startled, as a man stepped into her apartment like he owned the place. Tall, broad-shouldered, and radiating an unsettling confidence, he barely spared her a glance as he looked around.
"Who the fuck are you?!" Lisa snapped. "Get out—now."
Nuxsus ignored her, glancing at the walls adorned with ice-skating posters and trophies. "Nice place. I like it."
Lisa's fingers twitched, and within seconds, she had drawn a pistol from behind her waistband. The click of the safety was sharp in the tense silence.
"I said—out. Now."
Nuxsus finally turned his gaze on her, unimpressed. Slowly, deliberately, he reached out and placed his palm over the barrel of the gun. Lisa didn't hesitate—she pulled the trigger.
Bang!
The shot rang through the apartment. But when the smoke cleared, Lisa's stomach dropped. The bullet had done nothing. His skin was untouched.
Nuxsus glanced at his hand. "Hardened skin," he mused. "Neat."
Then, with effortless ease, he crushed the gun in his grip, metal groaning under his strength before it shattered into useless scraps.
Lisa stumbled back, wide-eyed.
Nuxsus smirked. "No hesitation. I like you already." His tone remained casual, but the next words were anything but. "Do you know anything about the League of Villains?"
Lisa swallowed, quickly masking her fear with a glare. "I don't know shit. Now leave."
Nuxsus sighed—then, without warning, his hand shot out, clamping around her throat and lifting her off the ground.
Lisa gasped, legs kicking as her fingers clawed at his grip. His red eyes glowed ominously as he repeated, voice as cold as steel:
"Do you know anything about the League of Villains?"
Harley bounced beside him, grinning. "You better answer, Lisa! Nuxsus ain't the type to play around—he might actually kill ya!" She giggled. "Oh! And just so you know—I watched him beat Batman!"
Lisa wheezed, struggling against the iron grip around her throat. "I—don't—know—anything! I swear!"
Nuxsus watched her for a moment, then released his grip. Lisa crumpled to the floor, clutching her throat, coughing.
"That's a shame," Nuxsus muttered. "I was hoping you'd be useful."
Lisa barely had time to catch her breath before he continued.
"Call your brother. Tell him to come here.*" His tone was calm, but the underlying threat was undeniable. "If he doesn't show, I kill you. If he brings backup, he dies first. Simple as that."
Lisa's hands trembled as she rubbed her sore neck. "Why… why are you doing this?"
"No reason, really," Nuxsus said offhandedly, taking a seat on her couch. "You were just the only person Harley knew in Central City."
Lisa's eyes darted to Harley, who simply tilted her head, flashing a sinisterly sweet smile.
"Harley, get me a drink," Nuxsus ordered, then turned back to Lisa. "And you—don't take too long. Call your brother. Now."
Lisa's fingers hovered over her phone. She had no illusions about what kind of man was sitting in her living room. The sheer strength he displayed—the way a gunshot hadn't even fazed him—he wasn't just dangerous. He was unstoppable.
Her fingers trembled as she dialed.
The phone rang.
