Chapter 297: Calamity.(17)
"Where is Rowan?"
Eliman was the first to notice the disappearance of Rowan as he levitated over a large group of green-scaled monsters with long sharp horns resembling that of a rhinoceros. The blood mage weaved powerful blood magic over the monsters while scanning the battlefield for his friend.
Scanning the battlefield, he found no trace of Rowan nor his flying pet which made him a little bit curious about his whereabouts.
'What is he up to?'
Eliman trusted that Rowan was not the kind to run away from battle especially when it has to do with his own territory.
Worried, he voiced his confusion to Dragun who was fighting not too far away from him.
Dragun who could be seen fiercely eliminating a lot of D-rank monsters with a fierce-looking whip quickly levitated to search for Rowan.
While he levitated, the monsters beneath it tried to seize the opportunity to hunt him down but failed as Merla's Purple hobgoblins charged towards them fiercely.
"He is no where to be seen," Dragun said aloud with confusion written in his voice.
Where and when did Rowan leave the battlefield? He wondered.
He could see Blaze fighting but Black Drifter was nowhere to be found which made him suspect that Rowan might have left the battlefield with him.
Both mages could only wonder amongst themselves the whereabouts of Rowan.
The soldiers, unaware of the disappearance of their master kept fighting with the belief that he was still there with them. Although their battle with the E-rank monsters was hellishly difficult, they still pushed back with all the strength left in their being.
Most of them were already too exhausted, moving their weapons or even taking a single step became a burdensome task for them.
Some even collapsed on the ground due to exhaustion.
If it wasn't for Merla using her summoned creature to take them out of the battlefield, they would've been devoured by the monsters who hungrily latched at them when they become defenseless.
Unfortunately, the summoner does not possess infinite mana. She was running out of mana to summon more creatures to rescue the soldiers.
Aside Dragun and Eliman, everyone else was exhausted.
A few of the soldiers still standing began to lose hope. Even Merla felt that the battle was helpless — she even harbored the thought of summoning a flying creature to take her out of the battlefield before it gets out of hand.
If the battle continued at its current pace, everyone would be slaughtered in less than an hour.
"This is not looking good at all!"
Eliman commented while observing the battle front from his position in the sky. He could see lots of soldiers retiring and the summoner running out of mana.
Dragun agreed inwardly, he too would soon run out of mana at the current pace of the battle.
Just where was Rowan? He wondered. The same question that went through the mind of the blood mage, had the Lord of Winterseed retreated cowardly? He thought.
The two mages were still fighting with all they had when they heard the cold and terrifying screeching sound of Black Drifter arriving at the battlefield.
The huge sky shifter was moving at a remarkable speed, its mouth was open, releasing the screeching sound that announced its arrival.
The soldiers at the front were drawn to the screech, including the summoner.
The flying monsters hovering over the battlefield spotted their previous opponent and began swarming towards it.
Meanwhile, Eliman and Dragun spotted a familiar figure mounting the sky shifter — It was no other than Rowan.
Both mages also noticed something entirely different about Rowan. The Rowan seated atop the flying divine beast was not the same Rowan they knew before — something about him seems different, as though he had gotten stronger than he previously was.
Eliman could feel a strong pressure simply gazing at him, same with Dragun who was just as puzzled as the blood mage.
Rowan on the other hand wore a confident smirk as he prepared to launch towards the boiling battlefield.
"Take down all the flying monsters for me, you hear?"
He whispered to Black Drifter who let out a small sound in response.
Rowan nodded with a smile, he summoned Soul Harvester and then launched from the tip of the flying beast and landed very close to Dragun who was struggling against some D-rank beast.
Now that Rowan was within close proximity, Dragun could feel that a lot had changed about his son.
The Rowan standing in front of him was not the same as before.
Although he was not weak before, now he had gotten several times stronger.
The only time Dragun had ever witnessed someone undergo dramatic increase in strength under a very short time was during his time as a member of the cult and those strength came from so many dark rituals.
The middle-aged mage could not help but wonder what exactly had changed about Rowan.
The monsters around them also felt the power radiating from the young man standing in the midst.
Due to this extreme power, the bloodthirsty monsters became precautious.
They did not attack right away and maintained a brief distance with the strange fella.
Their gaze were also drawn to the black sword in his hands with a red gem at its middle that emits a strong aura of death and bloodlust.
The eyes of Dragun and Eliman were also quickly drawn to the sword in the grasp of Rowan and both of them were just as surprised and cautious as the monsters around them.
"Rowan, where did you get that sword?"
Eliman barked at Rowan from above.
The structure of the sword, especially the red gem at its middle, was something he had seen in history books — The sword was described as an ancient weapon that had only appeared in this world a single time.
History claimed that the sword could make a common man into a mighty god of war if he slayed enough monsters or people with the blade. It was a known fact that the sword absorbs the life force of the people it slays and become stronger after each kill, thus even a common man could become the strongest in the world if he slayed enough.
Rowan looked at Soul Harvester and then at the blood mage, flashing him a smile.
"You guys have tried your hardest, you can leave the battlefield now. I'll take care of things from here."
