Chapter 9: Chapter 9 Let's Get Divorced
Xia Yanbing's pretty face slightly darkened, and she said, "Mom, Wan'er is a person, not an object. She's only seventeen and still has her prime years ahead of her. Have you thought about how her life would be ruined if she married Liu Wencheng? If we rely on selling out Wan'er for the survival of the Xia Group, can we really live with our conscience?"
Dong Jinsu's old face turned grim, and she yelled, "Then what should we do? Are we supposed to just watch the Xia Group collapse?"
"If it means selling out Wan'er to keep the Xia Group alive, it might as well fall," Xia Yanbing responded coldly, her face tense, "This matter is not to be mentioned again. I absolutely will not allow Wan'er to marry into the Liu Family."
"Bingbing, why are you so foolish? If the Xia Group falls, our family will be ruined as well. You won't be the prestigious lady you are now," Dong Jinsu shouted in a fit of rage.
Xia Yanbing was silent for a moment, then spoke calmly, "It doesn't matter. As long as we've tried our best. Even if we save the Xia Group this time, with my uncle and second uncle around, its collapse is only a matter of time."
"You, you..." Dong Jinsu pointed at Xia Yanbing with an ugly expression, then turned to shout at Xia Yujiang, "Did you hear what your daughter just said?"
Xia Yujiang roared, "Bingbing, the reason I gave you the position of general manager of the Xia Group is not for you to watch it fall. If it collapses, don't blame me for not acknowledging you as my daughter."
Xia Yanbing pressed her lips tightly, her eyes weary in a way that made one feel compassion; the company was on the brink of collapse, and her family was applying pressure step by step. She was truly exhausted.
"I'm going upstairs to rest!" Xia Yanbing trudged heavily toward the stairs.
The sound of a door closing confirmed that Xia Yanbing had returned to her room. Dong Jinsu looked at Xia Yujiang and said, "This matter can't go according to Bingbing's will. If the Xia Group is gone, we'll have to live a life of hardship, which I can't bear."
"Then what do you suggest we do? You're well aware of Bingbing's stubbornness."
Dong Jinsu said, "This must not go according to her wishes. You should hurry to the Liu Family and see what the situation is, and try to negotiate again."
Xia Yujiang nodded, "I'll go right away."
At this moment, both of their goals were aligned: to maintain their lavish lifestyle.
"Remember to bring generous gifts."
Xia Yujiang nodded and hurriedly left the house.
Dong Jinsu looked at Qin Yi and Qin Wan'er, her gaze threatening, and sneered, "I'm telling you, it's best not to let Bingbing know about this. Or I'll cut off your medication. Even if you tell Bingbing, it doesn't matter, I'm her mother. What could she possibly do to me?"
Qin Yi's mouth twitched slightly, really wanting to rush over and give this old witch a slap so hard that her own mother wouldn't recognize her. How could there be such a disgusting person in this world?
After delivering her threat, Dong Jinsu let out a cold laugh and went back to her room.
Qin Wan'er's young face was a bit pale, her eyes dim. She thought she had escaped a calamity, but now that Xia Yujiang was already going over there, would he persuade the Liu Family to have her marry into their family again?
"Wan'er, don't worry! I won't let you marry into the Liu Family."
Qin Wan'er suddenly seemed to think of something and asked curiously, "Brother, you said before that I wouldn't marry into the Liu Family, and then they backed out of the engagement. How did you know in advance?"
Qin Yi chuckled, "Didn't I tell you? I can predict things."
Qin Wan'er couldn't help feeling disappointed. It seemed that her brother was just saying that to comfort her, and it was a lucky coincidence.
"Don't worry! The Liu Family is not small-time. How could they go back on their word over something they've said? They wouldn't humiliate themselves like that. Xia Yujiang's trip will be futile."
Qin Wan'er nodded, hoping that to be the case.
"Brother, sister-in-law hasn't eaten. I'll make something for her, and you can take it up to her," Qin Wan'er said, thinking that although Xia Yanbing was usually cold, she was good to her and her brother.
Qin Yi nodded slightly.
Soon after, Qin Wan'er made a bowl of egg noodles for Xia Yanbing.
Qin Yi carried the food back to the room. Xia Yanbing was sitting on the bed, lost in thought. When she saw Qin Yi come in, she glanced up and then looked down again.
"Have something to eat. Wan'er made it especially for you; she's worried you'll go hungry," Qin Yi said, moving his wheelchair to the bedside and offering the bowl of egg noodles in his hand.
Xia Yanbing took the noodles from Qin Yi's hand and turned to place it on the bedside table.
"Eat it while it's warm. Cold noodles aren't as good," Qin Yi said softly.
Xia Yanbing looked up at Qin Yi, her gaze a bit dazed. For the first time, she was seeing him up close and realized he was actually very handsome — well-defined brows and eyes, a high nose bridge, perfectly shaped lips, and especially his skin, which was so delicate it even surpassed that of girls.
If it weren't for saving her, which cost him his legs, if it weren't for getting sick, he would have had a very bright future.
Qin Yi also quietly looked at Xia Yanbing. Her eyes were so beautiful, brighter than the stars in the sky, and he could see his reflection in her pupils.
"Ahem..." Xia Yanbing coughed lightly, leaning back slightly to create some distance from Qin Yi. She was a little puzzled as to why she was suddenly attracted to Qin Yi's appearance.
Qin Yi snapped back to reality too; the atmosphere seemed a bit off. At such a close distance between him and Xia Yanbing, usually, it would be either a fight or a kiss. But neither of these was possible. Or maybe it would happen; he'd kiss Xia Yanbing and then get beaten by her.
"Qin Yi, let's get a divorce," Xia Yanbing said softly.
Qin Yi suddenly lifted his head, looking at Xia Yanbing in shock, his whole body frozen.
After a long while, Qin Yi slowly relaxed his body and pretended to ask nonchalantly, "Have you found someone you like?"
Qin Yi knew very well that their marriage was not out of love.
Xia Yanbing shook her head slightly.
"Qin Yi, I'm sorry! It's because you saved me that you ended up like this. I once thought I would take care of you for the rest of my life, but now you know how dire the situation with the Xia Group is."
"The Xia Group is in terrible shape right now, and if we declare bankruptcy, everything including this villa will be used to repay debts. By then, forget about your medication — I won't even be able to afford ordinary medicine."
Xia Yanbing took out a card from under her pillow and handed it to Qin Yi, "Here's two hundred thousand, deposited in your name. If you don't divorce me, this money will also be frozen by the bank."
Qin Yi looked dazedly at Xia Yanbing, then hurriedly lowered his head, his hands clenching tightly around the wheelchair's armrests. It wasn't sadness or anger, but happiness.
It turned out Xia Yanbing wasn't divorcing him because she fell for someone else; she was looking for a way out for him. She still cared about him in her heart.
Qin Yi almost couldn't help but laugh out loud to express his joy.
