Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor

Chapter 157: The New Mage

After celebrating, Yun Sheng and the others returned to the medical hall.

As they approached the medical hall, they saw someone lingering at the entrance of Little Ci'en Hall.

On closer inspection, they saw an ordinary-looking, skinny teenager standing there.

Upon seeing Yun Sheng and the others, the boy's eyes flickered, hesitating to speak. After a long while, he finally asked in a low voice.

"Are you from Little Ci'en Hall? Are you recruiting medicine men?"

Looking to become a medicine man?

Lin Yao'er quickly went to greet him. Previously, they had difficulty recruiting staff, but unexpectedly, right after today's free clinic, someone came knocking on their door.

Although the boy looked frail, he spoke clearly and appeared reliable. Yun Sheng just happened to be in need of a medicine man.

"What is your name? Do you qualify to be a medicine man?" Yun Sheng also scrutinized the youth, who seemed somewhat shy and turned his face away slightly under her gaze.

"My name is Ji Mo. I've obtained the qualification of medicine man back in my hometown. Does your medical hall provide food and accommodation?" Ji Mo looked travel-worn, with just a flat luggage bag in hand, seemingly having just arrived from out of town.

Yun Sheng let Ji Mo into the medical hall and gave him some food and drink.

After having some food, Ji Mo began to share his own story.

It turned out that his hometown suffered from a pestilence making it hard to survive, so he followed his father to seek out relatives in Yujing.

Unfortunately, Ji Mo's father was killed by a demon beast en route.

Ji Mo, the sole survivor, made it to Yujing, only to find after much searching that his relatives had moved away three years ago.

With nowhere else to turn, he happened upon the notice for recruiting medicine men posted by Zhang Xiao Ci'en Hall on the city walls and found his way here.

Ji Mo's experiences inevitably reminded Yun Sheng of herself from over two years ago.

The stories of the two indeed bore striking similarities.

Especially since Ji Mo mentioned that he had previously been a Medicine Gathering Boy at the Magic Temple in his village, but what was more coincidental was that he was not only a medicine man but also a Magic Apprentice.

"If you're a Magic Apprentice, why not simply find a position at the Magic Temple?" Yun Sheng was still somewhat skeptical of Ji Mo's background, and besides, with Ji Mo's experiences, why would he need to seek employment at the little-known Little Ci'en Hall.

"Not to offend you, but... I also want to try if I can integrate magic with ancient medical skills," Ji Mo's words caught the attention of Doctor Fan.

"My boy, did you say you also want to try walking the path that combines magic with ancient medical skills?" Since meeting Yun Sheng, Doctor Fan had found someone to continue his legacy, but unfortunately, Yun Sheng had been the only one all this time. Now, hearing that Ji Mo also wanted to pursue the way of a Magic Doctor brought him joy.

"Mhm!" Ji Mo nodded his head.

"Then stay here, from now on you'll be Yun Sheng's medicine man," Lin Yao'er had a rather good impression of this young man.

Yun Sheng rolled her eyes; after all, the recruit was her medicine man, yet no one seemed to think to ask for her opinion.

Lin Yao'er went to settle Ji Mo.

Gu Feng hesitated for a while beside them and then quietly said to Yun Sheng, "Yun Sheng, there seems to be something off about that Ji Mo."

"Something's not right? What do you mean not right?" Yun Sheng still harbored some suspicion regarding Ji Mo's background.

"He has Light Magic Elements within him... though faint, they are indeed Light Magic Elements," Gu Feng said with conviction.

Now that Gu Feng mentioned it, Yun Sheng also remembered.

When she had previously probed Ji Mo for his Magic Power, her Five Elements Magic Soul didn't feel anything unusual, and she thought it was because Qingcheng was only a Magic Apprentice with very weak Magic Power.

It turned out that it was not because Qingcheng's Magic Elements were insufficient, but rather because he was also a Light Mage.

A Light Mage?

The Magic Temple, eh? It seems that the appearance of Moon God's Praise did catch the attention of the Magic Temple.

"Can you tell if his strength is formidable or not?" That Ji Mo looked completely harmless, and except for Yun Sheng and Gu Feng, everyone else had a good impression of him.

"Not very clear, he seems not very powerful, but he could also be hiding his strength," Gu Feng scratched his head.

"It's not a problem, if the other party willingly sent a Light Mage to be our Medicine Man, I should be glad," Yun Sheng was quite optimistic. If the enemy brings soldiers, she'll block them, if they bring floodwater, she'll build a dam; no matter what Ji Mo's intent was in sneaking into Little Ci'en Hall, she intended to make full use of him and extract his value to the fullest.

After nightfall, post-meditation, Ji Mo recalled Yun Sheng's earlier words. It seemed she hadn't noticed anything amiss about him, which was a relief. Now that he had infiltrated Little Ci'en Hall, there was plenty of time to observe slowly.

With the first day's charity event setting a high bar, Little Ci'en Hall's reputation soared over the next two days.

With a new Medicine Man and Gu Feng's intermittent assistance, the pharmacy's medicine sold very well.

However, the good times were short-lived. Lin Yao'er felt something was off while checking the medicinal herb inventory.

"There's some problem with the medicinal herb supply for Little Ci'en Hall. Several local pharmacies are willing to provide us with herbs. I suspect someone is behind the scenes causing trouble," Cien Hall handed all treatment-related matters to Doctor Fan, but Lin Yao'er was mainly in charge of purchasing medicine ingredients.

After the last charity event built a reputation, Little Ci'en Hall gradually gained some fame within the country.

The Alchemy Techniques of Yun Sheng and Doctor Fan were genuinely potent, and their Elixirs sold very well on the market.

Just the first month's Elixir income reached over five thousand silver coins, which is better than what Little Huichun Hall had made in an entire year.

While the income from medicinal herbs was good, it also brought about a problem—the supply of medicinal herbs, especially the stable supply of medicinal herbs.

For most Medicinal Farmers on the Wuji Continent, selling medicinal herbs to Medicine Emperor Pavilion was a matter of honor, and pharmacies were happy to cooperate with Medicine Emperor Pavilion.

This led to Medicine Emperor Pavilion quickly monopolizing most of the medicinal herb supply within Great Zhou.

A month and a half after the opening of Yun Sheng's Little Ci'en Hall, the inventory of medicinal herbs in the pharmacy was depleted.

Lin Yao'er did not anticipate today's situation when she was previously on Daoye Mountain. Being new to Yujing and unfamiliar with the place, she approached several local pharmacies, only to be rejected with the excuse of insufficient herbs and inability to supply.

A single rejection might be a coincidence, but after several occurrences, Lin Yao'er began to sense something was wrong.

"Heh, I expected this. Medicine Emperor Pavilion, the local bully, would never let us grow unimpeded," Yun Sheng was not surprised. When she foiled Cheng Sihai's free clinic, she had already anticipated that Medicine Emperor Pavilion would not let things slide.

But she didn't expect that the opponent would stoop so low as to interfere with the procurement of medicinal herbs.

"Master, we can't go on like this, we're running out of medicinal herbs to make Elixirs," Lin Yao'er said helplessly.
