Chapter 104: Re-Config
Dorian scoffed with a little smile on his face, then said "Buddy probably thinks he was able to speak well and talk properly in front of Grey all by himself."
Kiyomi chuckled softly as she placed her hand over her lips. She had given Edmund the thoughts and smooth talking he'd shown at the earlier meeting with the director, especially since Dorian couldn't let him mess up.
"Do you think he'll let you guys go ahead with opening the faction?" Kiyomi asked.
"I can't say for sure," Dorian said, half thinking while he spoke.
"You know I can make him…" Kiyomi said with confidence.
"Yes, I know. I trust the power of a Djinn, but that method will look weirdly suspicious, and given his level, any mind control won't work for long on him," Dorian said, then added, "We'll wait for his reply, and if it doesn't go the way I want, we'll go with Plan B."
...
Right now, Elaine was at the cafeteria alone, trying to get something to drink and needing some time away from the team to think about what happened earlier.
She thought to herself, "Were those feelings? But how?" Then part of what Liam said crossed her mind: "…just not interested in dating stuff right now," and that made her feel pain inside again.
She shook her head and said, "Oh no, Elaine, what are you doing?" This was something she never thought would happen, not even close.
...
Work ended for the day and Liam headed home like usual. But thinking about what happened earlier today reminded him of something he wanted to try, and what better time than now?
He pulled up his inventory and when he wasn't looking at his full stats, the inventory had a rather distinct design. The screen showed a grid-based system with his various weapons and items placed side by side.
It showed them as actual icons—his swords Dark Titan and Stormbringer, a key called The Divine Domain's Key, and a box with the number "2" at the top right corner, which meant there were two mystery boxes.
At the top of the grid design, it showed: [Inventory Skill: Reconfig]
"If this reconfig works like it says it does, then…" Liam said, then pulled his two swords Dark Titan and Stormbringer into his hands before using the skill...
[Inventory Skill Active → Reconfig]
Both weapons floated in front of Liam and started breaking apart into what looked like red pixels. While that happened, another screen popped up in front of him:
[What Weapon Form Do You Want The Final Result To Take?]
"A form? Hm… a spear then?"
[Choice Noted]
The system replied, and then the broken-down pixels started coming together one by one to form a lance-shaped weapon with a dark spearhead and gold details. It had fancy wing-like guards and a long handle wrapped in gold bindings, with pointed caps on both ends.
"Damn…" Liam muttered as he stared at how both weapons had become one single weapon.
Then a new message appeared: [Assign a name to the weapon]
"Hm… Let's go with Stormtitan."
[Name Assigned → Stormtitan]
Liam sighed. "I know it's not creative, but who cares about weapon names," he said with a shrug. Then a new window appeared showing the weapon's full stats:
[ITEM]
-Name: Stormtitan
-Item Class: SSS
-Type: Spear
[STATS]
-Attack power: +200
-Extra: Weather Control. Under a wielder who can use its true power, weapon gains additional +100 to Attack Power
"Oh shit!" Liam said out loud. "By themselves, these weapons are nowhere near this strong. So this skill combines not just their power but makes them even stronger. Great!"
He picked up the spear, made it spin around his fingers, then ran his magic energy through it. He could feel how easily powerful this weapon was. Then he looked down and saw he had fourteen stat points available, so he decided to spread them out.
He put 5 points into AGI stats, then moved 4 stat points into PRC and the last 5 stat points into CS. He left his STR stat alone for now since it was already at a good number, and he had skills and a weapon that made it even stronger. [AGI 75 → 80]
[PRC 59 → 63]
[CS 50 → 55]
He noticed the nice increase in his HP, MP, and STA bars, given he was also now at level 8.
"Just two more levels to go," Liam said, being ever closer to level 10 before he could open up the mystery box whilst also having access to more space in the Divine Domain.
...
Edmund's eye twitched a bit and then slowly they opened. It was a bit blurry at first then it was all clear. He then sat up to meet Dorian with both arms crossed behind his back and Kiyomi standing to his side.
Edmund began, "Hey Dorian…" and then moved his eyes to his side and said to the Djinn, "Hey strange woman…" It wasn't Edmund's first time seeing the strange creature that was always at Dorian's side. He knew it as a summon of his.
Dorian said nothing to his greeting directly except look at him and say, "I take it you're feeling much better" in a tone with a rather blank face.
"Yes, thank you," Edmund said then added, "You definitely have lots of enemies in Detroit," he added, remembering the scene from earlier at USOV.
Dorian scoffed, "Pay no mind to any of that. All that foolishness will eventually be dealt with," he said.
Edmund looked at Dorian for a bit, though not wanting to read more meaning into any of what he just said and then he asked, "How long are we supposed to wait on the director to decide? You left so quick I didn't get to ask."
Dorian shook his head with amusement, "I have no idea myself but that doesn't matter. Since I'm involved, I'm sure the director will get to a decision pretty quickly."
Then Edmund took one breath in as if trying to gather courage to ask, "And if this works out, you'll finally give me what I've always wanted?" his head was faced down to the ground as he asked.
Dorian said simply, "Yes. I'll grant you that wish." Kiyomi's form then disappeared slowly as Dorian started making his way out of the room whilst Edmund kept staring as he walked away.
