Lifeless Sleeps and Sleepless Lives

Chapter 4: Four Calling Birds

I figured out this fun little thing, I like to call it attachment, simply put, I can attach myself to an object or living being, basically haunting them, while in that state, my body passively follows them, and I can't get too far from them. Like I'm on a leash, or anchored myself. To that thing…

And I'll only be able to 'de-anchor' if the thing or person has been destroyed or killed.

Not much to do really, as see, I accidentally attached myself to the moon… on my… i don't know, fourteenth? attempt to figure out this ability…

Look I was bored ok?

I mean, sure, there's more than one shade of blue and grey now, but the world is still in its most basic of stages, people haven't even left caves yet, let alone done anything cool…

The world also doesn't work like a regular one would, the sun and moon are far, far smaller here, and are way closer, and, orbit around the planet (?) in fact, they were so close I decided to just fly up to one, the moon, to be more specific. And uhh, I got frustrated that I had to keep up with the constant shifting in speeds, so I tried to attach myself to a pebble, on the moon. And the jank ass physics in this place thought 'oh you want to interact with rock on moon? I thought you meant the entire fucking moon!'

The day night cycle of this world is so inconsistent, it's only barely even a cycle to begin with, sometimes the sun rises from the west, other times from the south, one time it came from what I assume to be the northeast, and sometimes the sun stays in the sky for four hours, sometimes seventeen, oh and have I mentioned that nighttime is the odd one out? Yeah, now in the reality I am from, the night sky, with all the stars and the moon? Yeah that's the default. But here? The 'tapestry of the night' is literally a tapestry, more an aura produced by the moon!

Did I mention that, there isn't an atmosphere? Or an Ozone layer? Or really anything that makes reality, real?

It's as if life was made by individuals who had no clue about it's inner workings, and explained away anything that didn't make sense as, 'it just works' or some bullshit like that…

The only reason there are trees or fish or people at all, is because those brothers think there are. Fundamentally, those two have no idea, no fucking clue, about what it actually takes to maintain life let alone, anything! that's not to say I know by any means, but even I know it takes more than an ocean and grass to keep everything alive!

If this place wasn't limbo, where in there are no physical laws, and was instead any subset of actual reality, with any of reality's actual laws?

This place would have collapsed in on itself in the blink of an eye.

Did I mention, this thing only counts as a planet as far as this continent is concerned? Yeah, the world ends after around fifteen or so miles of unrendered ocean.

There isn't an end to it either, actually, that's a lie, the end is just more limbo. But until that limbo? Just, ground and dirt and more ground and dirt…

It's like they took this continent into blender and extended the layer to fill space, the put it back… really, really uncomfortable to look at when your in your afterlife…

And it's just…!

Uhhuhhhyugghgrudbriendkejejeubehucehrjtbvfjd

Deep breath in…

Deep breath out…

Yes I know that I no longer have the capacity to breath, sue me…

And it's just all, so, so much…

So much to take care, of so much to fix, so much to clean…

And I don't even have the capacity to do anything. Because I am a ghost! And this place is just physically existent enough that I can't interact with even a little bit, let alone change how it all works…

I kinda wish there was like, a box where I can put my complaints or somethin…

By the way, I'm still stuck on the moon, it's quiet, the moon always exists at very center of its aura, the stars in the sky are just lights, they don't actually exist, as would be expected in this place…

I have to admit, This place makes for a wonderful picture, but it also makes for an absolute failure of a planet.

And despite what the gods have done here, the souls of those who live here, on this 'planet' still yearn for answers, still look up to the stars and wonder, I 'haunted' a few people, but, this is also the crime of these brothers… to never allow the curiosity of those they created to be satiated and yet still allowing those people to have the the capacity to have that curiosity. It's cruel, in all its forms it's as if they have created a hell out of limbo.

The masked creatures are pretty cool though.

…wait, what?

I'm on the moon, stuck on it, for what probably is going to be a very long time, what would a… and before I can continue my monologue my face is licked with a very sandpapery tongue.

What. "Huh?" I inadvertently voice out for the first time in a few how ever long it's been since I came up here…

But anyway back to the… dog thing…? That just slobbered on me.

It looked like those masked creatures, one of the werewolf lookin ones, just without the mask and with purple eyes instead of yellowish orange. It's face is a blobby mess of pitch black, only really having defined ears and eyes, and what might be an oval like snout that splits in half into a maw of canine teeth.

See, those creatures seem to be something directly created by one of the godlings, though, they never seem to really notice me, but I can push them around and stuff, they don't really do anything besides guard the big pools of black goop they came out of… pretty boring, but the bigger ones look really awsome.

So back to the dog thing slobbering on my face, and why it's doing that,

I've got no clue, but, it is nice, experiencing contact with another being, even if it is slimy dog thing spit.

I just kinda hope it doesn't eat me or somethin…
