Chapter 942 - 941: A Different Shu Pan
Chapter 942: Chapter 941: A Different Shu Pan
After Gu Shaoting hung up the phone, Shu Pan saw Sister Zhao walking over with a tray.
The two chatted and laughed; despite Sister Zhao being several years older, her positive attitude meant they found plenty to talk about.
During the meal, Shu Pan asked Sister Zhao, “Our company is really strict, don’t you think? Everyone wears trousers, shirts, or suit skirts and shirts. To have such uniformity in such a big company is truly rare.”
Sister Zhao laughed, “You don’t know the half of it. Our CEO is known as the ‘Iceberg’; he’s very strict with everything. It’s not surprising, though. Think about it, he’s only in his thirties, but he’s divorced, with a daughter. If he doesn’t dedicate himself to his career, what else can he do? He’s a diamond bachelor, and many female colleagues at the company covet him, but he remains indifferent.”
With a daughter? Could it be the same girl I ran into this morning? Only because it was him did I dare to bring a child to the company. Oh my, someone needs to support me, I was too impulsive.
I wonder if the CEO will hold a grudge against me for criticizing his daughter’s upbringing and manners?
“Is the CEO a very petty person?” Shu Pan asked nervously.
“Not really. Important people tend to not sweat the small stuff,” Sister Zhao expressed her opinion.
Shu Pan nodded, agreeing that made sense.
Her heart felt somewhat relieved, and she started eating with her head down.
Sister Zhao couldn’t help but smile when she saw her – clearly a very honest girl.
The afternoon rushed by in the midst of work.
As Shu Pan was packing up to go home, she received a call from Gu Shaoting.
How odd, he rarely called, usually just texting on WeChat. Yet today, he called twice.
“Have you finished work? I’ve finished too; I’ll give you a lift on my way,” Gu Shaoting offered an irrefutable reason.
Shu Pan thought for a moment and found no reason to decline, and so she waited for him near the office.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you at the landmark,” Shu Pan replied.
Shu Pan quickly packed up her things and made her way to the spot where she was to wait for Gu Shaoting.
Because it was the rush hour, the traffic was heavy, and Gu Shaoting arrived a bit late.
Shu Pan didn’t mind; the children had already reached home.
“Was it tough today?” Gu Shaoting asked, glancing ahead while steering the wheel.
“Not too bad, since I had work to keep me busy, time went by pretty fast,” Shu Pan replied with a contented smile. Despite feeling tired, her smile brought a vibrant glow to her face.
Gu Shaoting, glancing her way, could sense her joy. How long had it been since he last saw her smile so genuinely from the heart?
At that moment, he couldn’t help but wonder, had he really been inconsiderate? Had she been downcast and unhappy these past two years?
Gu Shaoting pursed his lips, his expression suddenly turned solemn. Shu Pan was taken aback and sensed a change in the atmosphere inside the car.
Yet she felt she had said nothing wrong. What she said was true – she hadn’t felt this fulfilled in a long time.
Maybe I should spend more time with the kids this weekend.
The rest of the ride was silent, and as Shu Pan watched the swiftly changing scenery outside, she felt deeply moved.
Upon arriving home and stopping the car, Shu Pan opened the door, and once inside, Joy and Xiaobao circled around her, chattering about funny stories from school.
After setting down her bag, Shu Pan washed her hands and then brought the two kids to the dining table.
Auntie Li had already prepared a steaming hot meal.
Seeing the children’s angelic smiles, Shu Pan felt all her worries and fatigue melt away.
