Chapter 269: Identification card
Lucas's plan of laying low was unfortunately not successful, not only the tail he had since the church visit was gone now, but he even made a mess in a certain cheap inn.
He traveled a lot after that, around all the stalls when finally, he was able to find a workshop.
The workshop looked like a normal shop from the outside. Yet the name 'Sams Alchemy Workshop' made it clear.
Lucas entered it and saw a cozy room, he felt a tingling in his skin with how comforting the atmosphere was.
'Is this a heater?' Lucas thought and soon his eyes were filled with greed.
This world's technology was not good but what it had was magic that Earth didn't have.
What was done with the laws of the universe through science was directly done here with magic.
All things were the same, the thinking was the same yet the part of the execution was where the world was different from his home one.
"How can I help you, sir?" The girl at the front table asked with a dazzling smile.
Lucas smiled back and approached the table. He saw a name tag on the girl's chest that said 'Mary'.
He also saw a badge that said 'Apprentice Alchemist'.
"Hello, Mary. I'm Lucas. I'm interested in learning alchemy. I heard this is the best place to do that." He said, trying to sound friendly and casual which was totally not his style yet he still needed to improve himself for the future.
Mary's eyes widened and she clapped her hands with a smile.
"Oh, that's wonderful. We're always happy to welcome new members to our guild. Alchemy is a fascinating and rewarding skill to learn. You won't regret it." She said, sounding enthusiastic and sincere.

"But before we proceed, we will need to know what class you have."
"It's 'Beginner Crafter', just got it from the church yesterday."
The girl looked surprised with the answer and before she said anything, her hand went inside the table and she brought out a small book and kept it on the table.
Lucas saw her keep her hand on the book. The next second, she closed her eyes too.
Before Lucas could say anything, her eyes opened again and she looked more surprised than the last time.
"Awesome, you have a very rare skill, Mr. Lucas. Please show me your class ID please." She said and looked at Lucas with an even more beautiful smile.
Lucas looked at her in confusion and took out the only ID he had. He gave it to her and after checking, she looked at him again while shaking her head.
"Mr. Lucas, this is your identity card. I would like to have your class ID please."
"Uhh…" Lucas didn't know what to say, he only had one ID with him and Zen hadn't told him anything else about it.
"Mr. Lucas, unfortunately, before I can register you for the entrance exam, you will need to go to the city hall for the class registration first to get your class ID."
Lucas got a small pain in the head with that name but he was used to it now.
"I will go register myself first. If you will excuse me." Lucas smiled and said.
"Alright, please return quickly! Sam's Alchemy Workshop is always open for you!"
"Hahaha, thank you, I will be back soon. Byeee."
"Bye!"
Lucas felt happy after feeling the enthusiasm coming from within her. It was rare to see people this genuine.
When Lucas left the workshop, the girl practically jumped from her position.
She quickly ran to the only back door and then ran up some stairs.
"Woah!! Girl, slow down!" A man in dirty robes said when Mary went past him.
"Sorry, it's urgent!!" Mary exclaimed and went in front of a room. After taking a small breather. She kicked the door open and ran inside.
"Silly girl." The man in the dirty robes said while chuckled and went on his way too.
"MASTER!! I found it!!" The girl said right after entering only to see a grumpy old man looking at her with a frown.
She saw to the man's right and scratched her head in embarrassment. The cauldron that the old man was using had black smoke coming out of it.
"It better be good, Mary. Or your herb ration for a month will be cut off by half!!" The old man said with veins bulging from the forehead.
"N-No! You can't do that! I am your granddaughter!"
"Doesn't matter, you just ruined ingredients worth 100,000 notes."
"Which is nothing for you, you cheapstake!"
"What did you say?!"
"Ugh, I don't have time for this banter, Gramps!! A guy came just now."
The old man just folded his arm and looked at her for further information.
"He had the 'Beginner Crafter' skill!"
"What?! Who has the guts to take that class?!" The old man practically jumped out of the pillow he was sitting at.
"Lucas!"
"Where is this Lucas now? Send him to me immediately."
"He has gone to get his class ID."
"That means, he hasn't learned any other trade for now…" The man started caressing his long beard.
Mary knew for a fact that this was the time his grandfather was in thought, she remained silent.
"Were you good to him? He will come back, right?"
"Yes Yes, I was very good to him. The city hall won't be too crowded right now, he should come back in a few hours at most."
"Good, because if he won't. You are going to sleep in the barn for a long long time." The old man said with a snort.
"Ugh, I hate you!" Mary just banged her feet on the ground and went outside the room after slamming the door with force.
The old man sat back in his chair while fiddling with a herb in his hand.
"Crafter class… it's been a long time since I heard that name." There was nostalgia in his eyes.
While such things were going on in the workshop, Lucas had already passed the queue and had his turn already.
