Chapter 584: President. People who often kill understand...
In the hotel room, Mona wrapped her arms around Luo An's neck from behind, her head squeezed next to his, and asked in confusion:
"What feels familiar?"
Luo An, touching Mona's arm, whispered:
"People who frequently kill know that murder is easy, but disposing of the body is the real hassle."
"..."
Mona gave Luo An a blank stare:
"What do you mean? Do you kill often?"
Luo An bent down and pecked Mona's arm, chuckling:
"No, I mean, for many people, dealing with a body is difficult."
"I know."
Mona nodded. Having been in contact with so many cases and seen numerous case files, she understood what Luo An was saying was no problem, but she was still puzzled:
"So, Luo An, what are you implying? Have you discovered the pattern of the murderer behind the second serial killing?"
"Just some thoughts."
"What thoughts?"
Luo An grinned, tilted his head and gently pecked Mona's pretty face, then said softly:
"You... I'll tell you."
Mona's cheeks flushed, and she hit Luo An hard on the arm before turning to walk away:
"You're sleeping on the couch tonight!"
Luo An threw the document in his hand onto the coffee table, flipped over the couch and leaped towards Mona, laughing:
"You can't decide that!"
"No, I really do decide."
Mona sat on the edge of the bed, feet up against Luo An's chest, and laughed:
"I'm not in the condition today."
"..."
Luo An, holding Mona's foot, froze, his brow slightly furrowed:
"I remember it's not today?"
Mona put her hands on her hips and said:
"It came early, it's not like it hasn't happened before."
"Alright then."
Luo An sighed, resigned to let go of Mona's foot and turned to the bathroom to freshen up.
After freshening up, Luo An climbed into bed after a simple tidy up, kissed Mona, turned off the bedside lamp, and prepared to sleep.
In the darkness, Luo An suddenly furrowed his brow:
"Mona, what are you up to?"
"What do you think?"
Mona suddenly intensified her action, drawing a soft moan from Luo An, and she laughed:
"I just applied your favorite lipstick, wasting it isn't a good habit."
"Wow, I love your thriftiness."
Luo An placed his hands behind his head and quietly closed his eyes.
------------
The next day, at nine in the morning, in the temporary office, everyone continued to handle the aftermath of the "Bludgeon from Behind Murder Case".
Suddenly, Luo An's phone rang, and pressing the answer button, he realized it was Vireness.
"Good morning, boss."
"Good morning."
Vireness smiled and asked:
"How's the case going?"
"Um... this case is a bit complex."
Luo An walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, picked up his coffee and took a sip, then began to outline the situation where what was initially thought to be one case had now turned into three.
After listening to Luo An's account, Vireness's face suddenly changed.
Solving a serial murder case was already tricky, and now it had become two, plus another double corpse case, Vireness's expression was as still as water, she solemnly said:
"Luo An, I'm just..."
"Fortunately, the third double corpse case, I've already led the team in solving it."
Luo An smiled, drained the coffee from his cup, then recounted Hannah's case, and then asked:
"Boss, what were you going to say?"
"...It's okay."
Vireness rolled her eyes elegantly, her eyes sparkling, not angry at Luo An. After pondering for a few seconds, she said:
"Do you need me to send someone over to help?"
"No need for now, I will call the supervisor if necessary."
"OK."
Vireness nodded her head and then lowered the volume of her voice, whispering:
"Also, Luo An, there's something I need to tell you.
The news that the investigation team you lead has a case-solving rate of 100% seems to have been leaked by someone, and now the President is aware of it."
Luo An set down his coffee cup, clearly surprised by this information:
"The federal president?"
"That's right."
Vireness spoke with a serious tone, saying:
"Listen, Luo An, I know meeting the President is an honor.
But things on the President's level are very complicated, far beyond what people like you and I can handle.
If the President's people come to you, do not rush to agree, make sure to contact me or Mr. Clement immediately, understand?"
After working with him for so long, Vireness had noticed that Luo An didn't care much for power and preferred money more.
But the federation, being one of the top-ranked nations on Earth, has a President whose status and power is beyond what ordinary people can imagine, along with the promises that can be offered.
Therefore, Vireness was very worried that Luo An, in a moment of heat, might accept the other side's orders without knowing what he's getting into and get tangled in some complex incidents.
In the end, unwittingly becoming a scapegoat for others, losing his life without even understanding why.
"I understand, supervisor."
Hearing Vireness's words, Luo An became extremely serious and nodded in agreement.
Who the current federal president was didn't matter, nor did the future president's identity. What mattered was their stance and political party.
In 2006, the fight between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party had not reached the intensity it would later, but there was plenty of chaos involved.
Luo An deeply understood the ruthlessness of killings within the federal political arena and had never thought of exploiting these issues to climb upward.
Too many pitfalls on either side, the danger level too high, not worth it.
"Good that you understand."
Vireness let out a sigh of relief, they chatted briefly, and just as she was about to hang up, Luo An suddenly interrupted her, asking in a low voice:
"Supervisor, the person who leaked the news about my 100% case-solving rate, do you know who it might be?"
"I'm not sure, I'm investigating."
Vireness's expression changed, and she asked:
"Luo An, do you have any speculation?"
Luo An fell silent for a few seconds, his eyes slightly squinted, and he whispered:
"Supervisor, Minister Antoine from the Professional Responsibility Office invited me to dinner after work, but I was busy with a case and turned him down."
Hearing the name Luo An mentioned, Vireness's face instantly turned cold as she said in an icy tone:
"I see, Luo An, continue working on the cases, and remember to call me if you need help."
"Sure, supervisor."
After hanging up, Luo An gazed out of the floor-to-ceiling windows, a thoughtful look crossing his eyes as he murmured to himself:
"Jews..."
At that moment, Michelle came over and said:
"Team leader, all the relevant information for the first and second serial murder cases has been compiled."
"Good."
Luo An put aside the jumbled thoughts in his mind and walked toward the conference room not far away:
"Let's continue working on these two serial murder cases."
Inside the conference room, the members of Investigation Team 13 sat on both sides of the meeting table, with Annie Mori, the behavioral analyst from the profiling department, sitting opposite Luo An.
Holding a folder, Michelle walked to the front, pointing to twenty photos on two large whiteboards, and said:
"Everyone, the serial killer on the left has been targeting women in sex work... and one man cross-dressing as a woman. I won't go into further detail about that.
As for the second serial murder case on the right, with victims shot in the back of the head, here are all the details for the eight victims.
But unfortunately, we still haven't found any connection or commonality between them."
"Not found?"
Reesi, hearing this, looked surprised at the pile of folders in the center of the table:
"So much information and still nothing?"
Luo An closed the folder in his hands and said:
"I have found something, though."
