Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 419: [Mona's Father's Disappearance and Hand Severance Incident]

Las Vegas, a room on the tenth floor of a hotel.

Mona had just used the computer to check Caroline's personal information and found that everything matched what Caroline had claimed, so Mona tentatively believed that Caroline was telling the truth and was not deceiving them.

Hearing Luo An's question, Caroline sighed and said:

"Inside the package was a severed hand and a note.

From a small scar on the severed hand, I recognized it as my father Javari's left hand.

The note had only one word, 'Help.'"

"..."

Upon hearing that Javari Evans' left hand had been chopped off, Luo An fell silent while Mona's expression turned grim. After a moment, she asked with a focused tone:

"Why didn't you contact the CIA?"

"How am I supposed to contact the CIA?"

Caroline retorted:

"I haven't been in touch with anyone from the CIA except my father in all these years. I've never even seen those people.

Besides, my intuition tells me something is off about that letter."

Caroline argued that if the package had truly been sent by her father himself, why would he include his severed hand to prove his identity?

Isn't that approach too impulsive? Javari could have written about a trivial matter only he and Caroline knew, to verify his identity.

"I don't know who to ask for help."

Caroline glanced at Luo An and stared intently at Mona, saying:

"Father mentioned you before, told me he had a daughter who joined the FBI and always worried him.

Since you're in the FBI, you definitely have more resources and methods than I do. I came here just to inform you of this.

Whether to avenge our father, how to avenge him, that's for you to decide. I really want to seek revenge for father, but my abilities are limited, I can't do it."

Looking at the face that bore a slight resemblance to her own, Mona breathed heavily, gritting her teeth. After a few seconds of silence, she abruptly stood up, walked behind Caroline, and dragged the chair she was tied to towards the bathroom.

Caroline, tied to the chair, was hugely startled and shouted:

"Wait, wait, what are you doing?"

"Letting you stay in the bathroom for a while."

Mona, with a stern face, shoved Caroline—chair and all—into the bathroom, then returned to the living room, tightly embraced Luo An, her eyes reddening and her whole body trembling as she asked softly:

"Luo An, what should I do?"

Mona, in essence, was not a very decisive person; often, the things she did were compelled by circumstances.

Like joining the FBI, she did it to retaliate against her father, Javari, once she found out he was in the CIA.

And her superb computer skills developed when Luo An learned during a post-exercise rest that Mona had been scorned by a tech-savvy classmate at school; she studied hacking just to prove them wrong.

Mona's feelings towards her father Javari Evans were always complicated.

Because Javari seldom came home to see Mona, she often faced taunts from classmates for being fatherless and also saw her mother suffer in illness until her death without Javari ever visiting, increasing Mona's hatred.

On the other hand, Javari had continuously provided for Mona financially over the years; without that money, Mona couldn't have afforded her mother's burial or kept the house her mother left, allowing her to graduate from college without incurring massive student loans.

Caroline's implications that Mona was Javari's most beloved daughter, and that he had stayed away from the federation only to keep her safe from danger, left Mona even more conflicted.

Gently patting Mona's back, Luo An tilted his head and gave her a soft kiss on the face. Once Mona's trembling ceased, after a few seconds of silence, Luo An said:

"Let's go to Europe together."

Having heard Caroline's earlier words, Luo An also sensed that the package was peculiar. With Javari Evans' years of experience working in the CIA, it was unlikely he would do something so contradictory.

The truth behind the package remains unclear, but Luo An is now facing an immediate problem:

The fact that Caroline is Javari's foster daughter has been exposed, and with Caroline coming to the federal state to look for Mona, regardless of whether Caroline's identity is real or fake, it indicates that Mona and Luo An are being targeted by someone.

Evading won't solve the problem; no one can defend against a thief every day. Instead of sitting at home waiting for the enemy to attack, or waiting for the enemy to secretly trip them up, it's better to go to Europe to investigate this matter and face the difficulties head-on.

Hearing Luo An's words, Mona remained silent for a few seconds, then tilted her head and bit Luo An's lips fiercely, kissing him madly for a moment before whispering in his ear:

"If we make it back alive from this, you…"

"Stop! Stop! Stop!"

Feeling cold sweat breaking out on his back upon hearing this, Luo An quickly covered Mona's mouth to stop her from jinxing herself.

Mona, wide-eyed and perplexed, watched as Luo An sighed with a speechless face, saying:

"We will definitely make it back alive this time, let's not say such things anymore."

Mona didn't understand why but nodded anyway, and Luo An finally removed his hand from her mouth.

"Hello?"

Just then, a voice came from the bathroom—Caroline's:

"Are you done discussing? Can you let me go? I need to deal with a personal issue!"

"…"

Luo An did not respond, instead looking down at Mona. Mona glanced at the bathroom then back at Luo An, and huffed softly whispering:

"That's a bad woman, keep your distance from her, OK?"

Luo An smiled and nodded in agreement, then Mona went into the bathroom and released Caroline. After Caroline finished taking care of her personal needs, Mona cast a look at Caroline's enticing red backless gown, thought for a moment, then fetched an outfit she had bought but never worn from the bedroom and asked Caroline to change into it.

Moments later, looking at Caroline sitting across from him, clad in sunglasses + long sleeves + trousers + coat, fully covered, Luo An glanced at Mona beside him without saying much, coughed lightly, and asked:

"Caroline, that box that was mailed to you, where did you put it?"

"In my piano shop."

When Caroline revealed the exact location of the box, realizing that Luo An and Mona planned to go to Europe to investigate the matter, she looked shocked and said:

"Don't you plan to ask someone for help?"

"The fewer people know about this, the better."

Luo An gave Caroline a meaningful look. Obviously, he wouldn't fight alone; however, he wasn't going to tell the others how he would proceed because he still couldn't fully trust her.

Caroline glanced at Luo An, then at Mona, who was following Luo An's lead in the investigation process, twitched the corner of her mouth and swallowed:

"You two are literally crazy.

OK, I can join in your madness. When do we leave?"

"No rush."

Luo An shook his head, continued to ask Caroline a few more questions and then said:

"Before heading to Europe, we need to make a trip to Maine in the upper right corner of the federation."

"What?"

"Why?"

Not only Caroline but also Mona looked baffled.

Seeing this, Luo An let out a chuckle, handed a federal geographic magazine to them, and explained:

"Because Maine is sparsely populated, has a high forest coverage, and is also close to Massachusetts."

"???"x2
