Legacy's Wake

Chapter 113: A Chance Encounter

The ship glided through the narrow waterway, winding its way along the intricate network of docks and walkways. As they approached the heart of Cerulean Tide, the city revealed itself in all its vibrant beauty. Tarot's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Holy peaches! This place is so oceanic!" he said, almost in awe, as he took in the sprawling view before them.

The dockside streets were bustling with life, with crowds of people going about their business, many carrying baskets, packages, or chatting with friends. Elevated wooden walkways stretched out above the water, winding like serpents along the edge of the river, connecting buildings with elegant arches and bridges. The buildings themselves were striking: rows of blue-roofed homes, each one with gleaming white stone walls that seemed to glow softly in the sunlight. The roofs had a distinct curve, almost reminiscent of the sails of ships, a clear nod to the maritime culture that this city thrived on.

As they moved closer, the city began to stretch out before them like an endless sea of stone and wood, interspersed with small, lush gardens that seemed to defy the surrounding oceanic environment. The streets, although busy, retained a sense of calm serenity. There was an air of quiet elegance to the way the people moved about, a feeling that even amidst the hustle, everything was in its proper place.

In the distance, rising majestically from the city's core, stood a colossal castle-like structure—its towering spires reaching skyward, with sharp angles that suggested both beauty and strength. It was the unmistakable headquarters of the marine officers, the heart of the city's military presence. Its massive stone walls gleamed in the sunlight, and large flags fluttered from the top, proclaiming the authority that ruled Cerulean Tide. It dominated the landscape, casting a long shadow over the surrounding houses and streets.

As they sailed further into the heart of Cerulean Tide, they found themselves in a broad, open bay. The water here was calm, but the scene was anything but still. The docks were packed with ships, large and small, some anchored, others loading or unloading cargo. Boats of every shape and size bobbed gently in the water, each one a testament to the bustling maritime trade that flowed through the city like its very lifeblood. The ships, painted in a variety of colors and designs, seemed to swirl around one another, moving in harmony like dancers in a grand ballet.

The city was vast, with more blue-roofed towers rising into the sky. These towering structures were adorned with shimmering flags that fluttered in the gentle breeze, while smaller homes nestled at their feet. The streets here seemed alive with activity—children playing in the streets, merchants calling out their wares, and musicians strumming their instruments in the corners. The sound of bells ringing echoed through the air, a constant reminder of the city's rhythm and heartbeat.

Above, the sky was filled with colorful, winged creatures—some gliding lazily between the rooftops, others darting playfully in the breeze. Their bright feathers added another splash of color to the city's already vibrant palette. The sound of their chirps and calls blended into the ambient hum of the city, creating a cheerful symphony that filled the air with life. The gentle clink of metal and the soft rush of wind against the sails completed the soundtrack of the city—a place where the land met the sea, and everything was in motion.

Cerulean Tide was a city of contrasts—serene yet full of energy, grand yet intimate. It was a place where the sea and the city had melded together, creating a vibrant community that seemed to pulse with life. The crew couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as they sailed deeper into its heart, surrounded by the beauty and chaos of the place.

"Yes, Cerulean Tide is definitely the gateway before the Stormrend Waters and Geyser Island," Nathaniel responded, his tone calm as always. "It has a strikingly similar atmosphere to Geyser Island, just on a smaller scale."

Temoshí leaned lazily over the ship's railing, gazing at the bustling town below with a contented smile. "But how do we even get the key to access the other gateway to Stormrend?" she asked, her voice tinged with annoyance. "I don't want to stick around here too long dealing with marines." She pouted, her mood clearly soured at the thought of more marine encounters, and let out a long, drawn-out sigh.

Kyora folded her arms and shot a pointed look at Temoshí. "Well, you can either trust Ralphie's crew to have made it to Geyser Island safely, and stay patient. Or, you can go barge through a whole troop of marine officials by yourself, without any backup. So, what will it be?" She crossed her arms tightly, glaring down at Temoshí, whose arms dangled lazily by her sides.

Temoshí groaned, clearly uninterested in the latter option. "Fine, we'll go the easy route this time," she said, dropping dramatically onto a nearby bench. Spreading her arms out, she leaned back with a loud groan. "But don't expect me to enjoy waiting."

Before anyone could respond, Temoshí was already fast asleep, her chest rising and falling with deep, peaceful breaths. Kyora, now fuming, marched over and shook her friend's shoulders roughly, yelling in frustration, "There's no time for that, idiot! Get up! You're not helping!"

It took some time to dock the ship, and after dropping the anchor, Temoshí leaped off the bench with excitement. Vaulting over the railing, she landed on the stone-covered path with a grin. "Finally, I can get out of this stupid uniform!" she exclaimed, rushing toward the nearest alleyway.

"Hold on, you idiot! I'm not going to hunt you down just to find your ridiculous excuse!" Kyora shouted, her voice carrying as she glared after her. Tem quickly turned to face her, one hand on her hip. "Then hurry up. I'm not staying in these clothes any longer," she snapped before dashing off again.

The rest of the crew, still stuck in their uniforms, sighed and returned to the cabin to change. But when they returned, expecting to follow Temoshí, something seemed off. Temoshí had vanished without a trace. "Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Kyora yelled in frustration, realizing that Temoshí's disappearing act was never a good sign.

Nathaniel glanced around, unamused. "One of these days, we'll find a way to keep him... her still." He turned his attention to Elliott, who was also gone, likely following Temoshí. "Those two wanted out of the uniforms, but now they've gone off like lunatics."

Kyora collapsed onto her knees, overwhelmed. "I swear, we'll never have a peaceful day again..."

Joker walked up beside Kyora, tapping her on the left shoulder in a calm, measured way, trying to ease her frustration. "Don't worry, I'm sure they won't make the same mistake this time," he reassured her. Kyora sighed dramatically in response. "I hope so. But knowing them, they'll probably turn our lives into a disaster before we even get the access key."

Meanwhile, deep in the heart of the city, Temoshí and Elliott wandered, trying to make sense of the unfamiliar surroundings. "We just need to get the access key, right? Shouldn't be too hard," Temoshí remarked confidently. Elliott shook his head in disbelief. "Yeah, the sooner we get it, the less trouble we'll face. But where the hell are we supposed to find it?" They both stood there, feeling small against the vastness of the city, unsure of where to start.

Just then, a woman with orange hair caught their attention, her hair swaying behind her as she approached. "Oh my god, is that really you? I didn't expect to see you here!" she called out. Temoshí and Elliott both turned to face her, surprised, and Temoshí's face lit up. "Phoebe! You're here too?! No way!"

Phoebe, grinning with excitement, stepped forward to greet them. "I can't believe it! Small world, huh?"
