Legacy's Wake

Chapter 111: Cerulean Tide

The journey toward Geyser Island was proving to be far longer than anticipated, and the crew had now been at sea for two days since wrapping up their chaotic adventures on Casinova Island. The lingering tension weighed on them, and the open horizon offered little distraction.

"I can't take this anymore," Temoshí groaned, pacing across the deck like a restless tiger. "I don't know what the others have gotten themselves into while we were messing around in Bloomsque and Casinova. It's driving me crazy!" His frustration was evident, but the concern in his voice showed his protective nature over the crew.

Kyora, perched near the ship's helm, glanced up from her reading. "Well, according to this," she began, holding up a handheld device displaying a website, "we need something called a passage key from a place called Cerulean Tide to even access Geyser Island safely. Apparently, marine officials have the area locked down tight. They're guarding against all sailors, but especially pirates."

The revelation caught everyone's attention, sparking a wave of concern among the crew. "An access key? What kind of nonsense is that?" Temoshí asked, crossing his arms as he looked at Nathaniel for answers. "And what's this Cerulean Tide supposed to be?"

Nathaniel leaned against the ship's railing, his expression calm but thoughtful. "Cerulean Tide is a small, water-bound town. It's basically the only gateway to the Stormrend Waters—designed to block anyone from entering without proper clearance. Marines are stationed there specifically to keep out pirates and other unwanted visitors."

The mention of a new area piqued Joker's interest. Tilting his head curiously, he chimed in. "Stormrend Waters? I've heard nothing but bad news about that place. But honestly, I don't know much beyond the name. Apparently, it's infamous, but the specifics are pretty vague."

Nathaniel gave a slow nod, recognizing Joker's curiosity. He straightened and addressed the group, his voice serious under the clear blue sky. "Stormrend Waters isn't just dangerous—it's a nightmare. It's said to be one of the most treacherous regions in the entire ocean. The area is crawling with sea beasts, and there are tales of sea nobles guarding their waters with unimaginable power. But that's not the worst of it."

He paused, allowing the weight of his words to sink in. "The waters there are almost supernatural. At the edges, the ocean is unnaturally still—like a mirror, with no wind or currents to move your ship. It's eerily quiet, and sailors say it feels like time itself has stopped. But the further you venture in, the calm gives way to chaos. Fierce storms spring out of nowhere, the waves can capsize even the sturdiest ships, and the skies are perpetually darkened by swirling clouds."

Nathaniel's gaze swept across the crew, his tone darkening further. "But the real nightmare is what lies beyond. There are rumors of something lurking deep within—an ancient creature, so massive and elusive that no one knows what it truly looks like. People call it the 'Stormrend Leviathan.' Some say it controls the waters themselves, while others claim it's been guarding something in the depths for centuries. Whatever the truth is, no ship has ever returned with proof."

The deck grew silent as the gravity of Nathaniel's explanation settled in. Even the usually carefree Tarot seemed uneasy as he whispered, "So... we're just supposed to stroll right through that? No big deal?"

Nathaniel smirked faintly, though his eyes remained sharp. "That's the real question. Even if we get through the calm zones, the storms will be waiting for us. And after that... who knows? All I know is that the Stormrend Waters aren't a place you go unless you've got no other choice."

"The more dangerous this place is, the less I care," Temoshí declared, his determination unwavering. "If the others managed to get to Geyser Island, it means they found the right way and brought themselves to safety. If they got the key, then so can we." His focus on the task at hand was absolute, and it was clear nothing would change his mind.

"I'm not saying we shouldn't try to meet up with the others, but the risk we're taking here is insane, Tim," Kyora countered, frustration evident in her tone. "Even if Ralphie's group somehow made it through the Stormrend Waters, that doesn't guarantee we'll be as lucky. Sailing through that place is practically a death sentence. The odds of making it are... slim at best."

Despite her protests, Temoshí remained steadfast, his expression unyielding. "Even if we end up in this so-called 'death zone' or whatever it is, we'll just deal with whatever's out there. If something gets in our way, we'll kick its ass. Now, just tell me we're close to Cerulean Tide so we can get ready."

Kyora let out a long, exasperated sigh, burying her face into the folds of her uniform. "Of course he'd say that," she muttered. "Reckless as always, no matter how many times he's brushed shoulders with death. I really did find the craziest captain on the sea." Her eyes reflected a mix of irritation and resignation as she glared at him, while Temoshí simply grinned back with an air of unshakable confidence.

Joker chuckled from his spot nearby. "You know we can't exactly disobey the captain's orders, Kyora. It's just how things go."

Kyora groaned, slamming her forehead lightly against the ship's railing in protest. "And following his orders basically means signing up for a suicide mission. Great. Just great."

Her shoulders slumped as she looked toward the horizon. "What's even worse? I'm stuck on this ship surrounded by men. Not a single other woman here to back me up. I wish Aurora or Yumiko were here..."

Tarot, ever the enthusiastic wildcard, jumped into the conversation. "Honestly, I think Yumiko would totally agree with Tim. She's just as crazy as he is."

Kyora slumped to the deck like a puddle of goo, her spirit visibly drained by the exchange. Meanwhile, Temoshí remained firmly planted, determination blazing in his eyes like an unquenchable fire.

Nathaniel, ever the stoic observer, watched the display with mild amusement. Despite his typically serious demeanor, he couldn't help but be entertained by their contrasting personalities. Deciding to step in and break the tension, he answered in Kyora's place.

"Cerulean Tide is close," he said, glancing at the horizon with a calm confidence. "I'd say another hour, and we'll be there."

Kyora groaned, flopping her arms out dramatically. "An hour closer to doom. Fantastic."

Temoshí grinned, flexing his fingers as if ready to punch fate itself. "Plenty of time to gear up and get ready for whatever's waiting for us. Let's make it count."
