Legacy of Harry Potter

Chapter 188: Dumbledore's True Ambition

[Sorry for the delay. I was completely down because of viral fever and it has been tough last few days.]

November 199

Dumbledore's Castle

Harry did not disturb Dumbledore when he was lost in his memories. After few moments, Dumbledore looked towards Harry and sighed deeply.

"You think my dreams end at ruling the world, Harry?" Dumbledore questioned as he himself answered the question. "While I cannot say for the whole world, was I not ruling the wizarding Britain?"

"Though I was not an official ruler or an acknowledged monarch, was I not controlling everything as per my wishes?" Dumbledore asked.

Harry could not really deny the words. Afterall, Dumbledore's authority and influence had really been so great that he could confidently utter these words.

"My ambitions are too lofty, Harry," he continued. "Do you know that every human, wizard, witch, unicorn or any other creature have only end… death."

"For centuries many men have tried to overcame death but none have been able to do so. My friend, Nicolas Flamel discovered the philosopher's stone and was able to live for almost 6 centuries and would do so for more but a single killing curse would still do the trick. No one could overcome death."

"There was a time when I had such ambition. With a dear friend of mine, we had planned to unify the whole of world, rule over it and make the muggle subservient for the greater good," Dumbledore continued. "If you know what I mean."

[Dumbledore is talking about Gellert Grindelwald if you did not understand the context.]

"You know Harry," Dumbledore said and Harry for the first time could feel some genuine emotions from the old coot. "I had a sister."

"And I do not deny that it was my mistake… but she was killed just because an astray spell had struck her," Dumbledore sighed. "How easy was it for death for to conquer her?"

"My father had to go to Azkaban and he died there… my mother died because of a magical accident from my sister. Death was winning so easily."

[I am not writing the complete story but you can do a background reading about what had happened to Dumbledore's family if you don't know.]

"After that incident, I lost all my motivation to rule the world and all of it," he continued with hardened eyes. "It was all useless, if death was to be the ultimate winner."

"I focused myself… no I got obsessed with something that could make me win death," he said as he stared at Harry.

"The deathly hallows…" he added. "I obtained one of it, the elder wand after killing my dear friend but I was never able to draw its true power. I grew frustrated."

"I did experiments with Nicolas about the elixir of life but as I told it had a loophole."

"I was aware of horcrux… but I was not willing to split my soul and loose my insanity. It was not as if horcrux were completely reliable. Look what happened to Tom."

"Things continued to flow… until one fine day, I learned of the dark mark," Dumbledore said. "During those times, I had also learned that the invisibility cloak was with the Potter family."

"I finally felt my dream coming true," Dumbledore said.

"The Dark mark made me obsessed," he said. "Its potential was far- far greater than Tom could have envisioned. But I knew it."

"I studied it… researched it and ultimately devised my plan," said Dumbledore.

"With the combination of the dark mark, the philosopher stone and the three hallows, I am going to defeat death, Harry my boy."

Dumbledore smirked, "And with the addition of your soul, which I will devour soon, I will be invincible. I will be immortal."

Finishing his words… Dumbledore let out a wild laughter which echoed in the entire castle.

Meanwhile, Harry let out a sigh of relief. Now that he was aware of what Dumbledore really wanted, he felt a sense of relief washing over him.

"Dumbledore," Harry said. "I admire your plan but don't you think you are thinking too far ahead?"

"You do not have the hallows nor my soul," he chuckled. "I believe, I have all with myself."

"And I admit that by absorbing Voldemort's soul you have gotten much stronger but I doubt this would be enough to defeat me."

"Boy," Dumbledore snarled in rage. "You are right. You have become too powerful."

"But you are a fool, if you think this is the true extent of my power," he added. "Let me show you my true power after which I will have what I want."
