Legacy Of Altherion

17-Clarity And Absolution

Twelve hours passed since Logan began the serum trials. One vial after the next, none yielded any positive results. Each attempt triggered a different response and physical reaction, ranging from extremely high fever, to violent convulsions and severe vomiting.

"Logan I apologise truly, I thought this an exciting challenge, yet finding the right combination of compounds proved to be much more difficult than I anticipated." Dormain said standing beside his bed.

"I believe that I have finally found the solution, however, there is a complication."

"What sort of complication?" Nathan said.

"Well, given the progression and the severity of the adverse effects, I suspect that with this serum, the virus is very likely to respond in its defence." Dormain said, holding up a black vial.

"What does that mean exactly?" Mr Gremzor said.

"Logan will revert back to that induced aggression state, and he will attack anyone and everything in sight, including, harming himself.”

"Simple restraints will not be enough. We require an additional safeguard, someone has to stay with him to keep him from hurting himself, or getting out until the serum clears the virus from his body."

"How long will that take?" Mr Gremzor said with a concerned expression.

"It is difficult to say, it may be an hour, or five."

"I'll stay with him." Nathan said.

"Out of the question." Mr Gremzor said.

"Why not?"

"In Logan's current state, the virus will stop at nothing to defend itself, holding back your strength will not be sufficient. And if you use all of your power...” Dormain said.

"I will stay with him." Mr Gremzor said.

Both Nathan and Logan shared a look of complete shock.

"Then it is settled, I will summon my assistants to prepare the barrier." Dormain said and left the room.

Logan sat uncomfortably in a chair at the centre of a spacious room, surrounded by six of Dormain's Lumus assistants.

"Nervous?" Nathan said.

"Yeah, I really hope this works." he said with a look of concern. "I don't want to hurt anyone.”

"You're referring to my Father? Don't worry, he'll be fine, and so will you.”

Mr Gremzor and Dormain approached him.

"Are you prepared?" Mr Gremzor said.

Logan nodded.

Dormain administered the black serum into Logan's veins then stepped back. He extended his right arm in front of him, which was followed by a flash of light. Immediately after the flash.

Logan felt intense pressure throughout his body. He looked down his chest and saw rows of glowing chains attached to him, from his shoulders down to his ankles.

"What is this?" he said, trying to move.

"They are simple restraints, do not fret." Dormain said.

"It is merely a precaution to keep you safe." Mr Gremzor said.

Logan sighed then nodded in acceptance.

Dormain retreated behind his assistants and gestured for Nathan to join him.

Nathan nodded at Logan then followed Dormain.

The Lumus converged and created a large energy barrier around Logan and Mr Gremzor, the barrier extended to roughly ten meters on either side of the chair.

Logan felt a warm sensation vibrating throughout his body as the serum started to take effect. He struggled against the restraints in an attempt to break them. The sensation intensified, causing Logan's movement to become more vigorous and erratic.

Despite his best efforts, the energized chains would not budge. At that moment, a pulse similar to the sound of a heartbeat echoed. Logan’s eyes shifted, becoming white and glazed back, with thick black veins bulging from his forehead and temples.

Glaring at Mr Gremzor, he roared menacingly. The sound of his voice caused faint ripples across the entire barrier.

Dormain raised his brow.

The next moment, he broke free from the chains and burst out of the chair. He charged towards Mr Gremzor at incredible speed, with the full intent to kill. Mr Gremzor disappeared from his visual field, in that instant, everything in front of Logan went dark.

Logan woke up dazed and disoriented, he looked around unable to see anything aside from blurry images. When his vision finally cleared, he noticed a young woman with auburn hair walking towards him from a doorway.

"You are awake." she said in a soft voice.

"Where am I?" he said.

"You are in the infirmary."

"What? When did I get here, where is Mr Gremzor?"

"Calm yourself, you arrived a few days ago.”

"High Councilman Gremzor said to notify him when you woke, I will inform him shortly." she said.

"Is he all right, did I?..."

"Did you what, hurt him?" the young woman said then giggled.

"I apologise. No, he is unharmed.”

Logan sighed in relief.

"How are you feeling?"

"I feel a bit lightheaded and I have a migraine." he said holding his head.

"That is to be expected, your body is adjusting and returning to normal. Here, drink this." she said handing him a glass of blue liquid.

"What is it?" he said, taking a sip.

"This will help bring your strength back. You should remain still for a while, I cannot imagine that you would wish to faint in front of a lady."

He grinned.

"Make certain to finish the rest." she said, then walked out of the room.

Mr Gremzor stood in the chambers of the Supreme Order of Nava, in council with all nine Elders, discussing the fate of Logan.

The nine Elders seated in a semi-circle around him were: Elder Zhaan, Elder Moriah, Elder Kylom, Elder Nemis, Elder Xylem, Elder Prex, Elder Tropan, Elder Eptbern and Elder Riviz.

"High Councilman are you suggesting that we teach him our ways?" Elder Kylom said.

"He has Altherian blood in his veins too, and he is free to act of his own accord." Mr Gremzor said.

"That does not guarantee that he will not be a threat in future, Reapers cannot be trusted." Elder Prex said.

"We have the resources to train him and make sure that he becomes an ally instead of an enemy, not that he would ever become one, he simply requires the proper guidance and encouragement." Mr Gremzor said.

"He is an abomination, he should not be allowed to corrupt our way of life!" Elder Riviz said.

"He is an innocent young man, let us not punish him for something that is beyond his control." Mr Gremzor said.

The room fell silent.

"It is true that you have cleared his name from the attacks on our people, and that matter has yet to be addressed. Given your testimony, I am inclined to grant your request on the condition that you henceforth take full responsibility for his actions within and outside of Altherion." Elder Zhaan said.

"I humbly accept those terms." Mr Gremzor said.

"Well then, I believe that a vote is in order." Elder Zhaan said, looking around the room, they all nodded in agreement.

"All those in favour of my proposal?" he said.

Five Elders raised their hands immediately.

The Elder nodded. "We hereby grant your request High Councilman Gremzor." Elder Zhaan said.

Mr Gremzor bowed deeply.

"You have my deepest gratitude." he said, raising his head.

After further discussion, he left the chamber.

Mr Gremzor entered the infirmary looking cheerful, when he arrived at Logan's bed, he found it empty.

"Where is he?" he said to the young woman who at the time, stood in the corner of the room looking out of a window.

"Greetings High Councilman Gremzor, he left with Nathan towards the balcony." she said turning towards him.

"What is his condition?"

"His recovery is complete sir."

"That is a relief, where is Dormain?"

"High Councilman Greinier is in the Laboratory, he is awaiting you there.”

"Please collect my son and Logan, then bring them to the Laboratory in ten minutes.”

"Yes sir."

Mr Gremzor and Dormain sat on top of a large table in the Laboratory discussing the decision made by the Supreme order of Nava.

"That is good for the boy, I am not certain if it is the best for you personally." Dormain said.

Mr Gremzor shrugged.

"Have you decided on the training method with which to control his abilities?" Dormain said.

Mr Gremzor grinned. "I have, that is why I will leave it to you." he said.

"You Jest!"

Mr Gremzor shook his head. "I am not, remember the incident in Tawgor?"

Dormain stared at him wide eyed. "You are not suggesting…"

Mr Gremzor grinned. "Indeed, I am claiming my token for our wager.”

"That happened eighty years ago!”

"And in eighty years I have not collected, thus you do not have a choice.” Mr Gremzor said. "I need someone whom I trust, and you are well versed in all manner of concepts, you are perfectly suited for this.”

Dormain sighed. "Fine...I will do it.”

Mr Gremzor smiled. "Right on time." he said as Nathan and Logan entered the laboratory, accompanied by the young woman.

"Thank you Celyse, please take this to Konjen." Dormain said handing her a stack of files.

"Yes sir." she said.

Logan stared at her in deep thought as she accepted the files from Dormain's hands.

"It is rude to stare." she said, and walked off.

Mr Gremzor, Dormain and Nathan all chuckled at Logan's flustered expression.

"Now then, I have summoned you to present great news." Mr Gremzor said.

"Logan, the Supreme Order have granted their permission for you to stay in Altherion for the purpose of training."

"What does that mean, what about work and my family back home?" Logan said.

"Dormain will serve as your mentor, he will guide you through the process of controlling your abilities."

"At present the virus has been cleared, but it is still too dangerous for you to be around others without control of your emotions and impulses." Dormain said, interrupting Mr Gremzor.

"That is why your training is of great importance, I need you to do your best and make us proud." Mr. Gremzor said.

"You better not slack off!" Nathan said, slugging Logan's shoulder.

"I won't, I'll do my best to gain control." Logan said.

"Great, now all that's left is to find something to tell your aunt and uncle regarding your absence." Nathan said, scratching his head.

"Crap! My aunt and uncle. I told them that I would only be gone for a few days, three at the most, and we've been here longer than that.”

"Calm yourself, time flows differently in this realm." Mr Gremzor said.

"In Altherion, time flows faster than it does on Earth, therefore when you arrive home, not much time would have passed."

"That's a relief, wait, does that apply to all realms?"

"Not all, in some places, the opposite is true where time moves incredibly slowly." Mr Gremzor said.

Logan nodded.

"Why does it sound as though you guys won't be here during my training?"

Nathan smiled. "How observant of you.” he said. "I've been ordered to investigate a disturbance in the Soato Region.”

"Soato, is that not where?..." Dormain said.

Mr Gremzor grinned. “Indeed it is.”

"What's in this Soato Region?" Logan said.

Nathan sighed. "A Crimson haired Devil.”
