Chapter 297: New team - Alex, Austin and Caleb
The brown-haired young man burst out laughing when he heard that: "Spare me? Hahaha… Where do you get that confidence from?"
"You think your trash Skeletons can defeat my Lizards? That's ridiculous!"
"Let me show you the massive gap between your garbage and—"
Keng! Keng! Keng!
The sound of metal clashing rang out, and what happened next immediately overturned everything he knew.
When the Skeletons clashed with his Lizards, they didn't shatter as he expected.
On the contrary, it was his Lizards that were pushed back.
What followed was a one-sided massacre. Although the Skeletons weren't as refined as the Lizards, they could use their overwhelming advantage in rank to win.
The Lizards were only rank D, while the Skeletons had reached rank C+. Their strength was such that they could even destroy the brown-haired young man's two D-rank heroes.
He stood there with his mouth agape, eyes wide, his face full of disbelief as he watched the scene unfold before him.
The Lizards were slaughtered, not a single one able to escape.
Though skilled in close combat and proficient with weapons, the Lizards couldn't pose any challenge to the Skeletons.
They were like sheets of paper, torn apart effortlessly by the Skeletons.
The agonized cries of the Lizards echoed out, accompanied by the pungent smell of fresh blood that snapped the young man back to his senses.
But as he came to, all his Lizards were already dead, lying sprawled across the ground, their blood staining the earth red.
"This… this… this can't be… why is this happening…" he stammered, unable to believe what was happening before his eyes.
Keng!
Suddenly, a blade pressed against his neck, startling him.
Looking over, he saw a Skeleton standing beside him, its sword at his throat.
The chill of the metal against his neck made him shudder with fear, cold sweat breaking out as his body trembled violently.
Still, he forced himself to remain calm and said, "You… you can't kill me. If I die, my two heroes will…"
BAM!
BAM!
Two loud explosions suddenly erupted, sending smoke and dust billowing across the entire front.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, something black flew out from the cloud of smoke and dust toward the brown-haired young man.
Thud!
The black object landed heavily on the ground, then rolled to his feet.
"AAA!!!" He suddenly screamed in terror, completely forgetting about the Skeleton's blade at his neck as he immediately retreated, collapsing onto the ground.
"No way! How… how could this happen!" Sitting there on the ground, his eyes wide with disbelief, he stared at the black object that had just rolled to his feet.
It was the head of one of his two Lizard heroes.
The head was covered with wounds, its fangs almost entirely broken, and fresh blood was still oozing from the wounds, making for a gruesome sight.
"Damn it!" Austin emerged from the smoke, his body covered in several bleeding wounds, but they were all superficial—nothing serious.
He cursed as he walked, brushing the dust off himself: "That damned lizard was pretty strong, but in the end, it was just a lizard."
At that moment, Austin wore a smile full of confidence and arrogance, and deep down, he marveled at the wonders of the 'Combat Simulation Room.'
It was truly miraculous.
It was no different from reality.
Now, not only did he have much more combat experience, but he could also use the energy his Master had bestowed upon him with ease.
At this moment, Austin was truly loyal to Noan, even without a binding contract.
To him, following such a Master was an honor.
If not for his Master, he would still just be a useless E+ rank Lord.
Even if he had survived the 'Zombie Wave' event, he would not have been able to stand against these D-rank lords.
But now things were different.
Though he was no longer a Lord, with his current strength, he had no regrets.
"Huh! To kill just one trash lizard and end up so badly injured, you really disappoint me," came a voice as another person stepped out from the smoke.
It was Alex, holding a D-rank energy crystal he had just taken from the lizard he had slain.
There didn't seem to be a single wound on Alex, just some scratches on his clothes and a lot of sweat.
Seeing Alex's expression, Austin clicked his tongue: "Tsk! Give me a little more time, and I'll surpass you."
Alex gave a scornful smile, but inside, he was starting to feel anxious.
Austin was developing far too quickly.
Just yesterday, Austin had been clumsy, exposing many openings in battle, but today was different.
Alex could clearly see the way Austin fought—though he still relied heavily on instinct and intuition, the number of flaws in his movements had decreased significantly.
Such progress could only be described as genius.
'Damn it! Could he be a martial arts genius as well?' Alex cursed inwardly.
In the past, his master had told him that there were very few people in this world born as true martial arts prodigies—he was one of them.
The number of martial arts geniuses was extremely small; even among ten million people, it would be hard to find someone with such natural talent.
That was why Alex was always proud and arrogant, convinced that he was a martial arts genius.
But after meeting Austin, that pride was instantly crushed.
To reach this level in just a single day—if Austin were given a month or a year, along with the strange power that Noan had bestowed upon him, Alex might only be able to look up at Austin from below.
'No! I am a martial arts genius, and I have an SS-rank talent. I definitely won't lose.' Alex tried to reassure himself.
However, Austin had only grown this strong so quickly because of the 'Combat Simulation Room.'
Fighting without having to worry about evasion or injury was completely different from real combat.
That was why he could easily identify his weaknesses and flaws, and correct them with ease.
But that still didn't change the fact that Austin, too, was a martial arts genius.
Otherwise, even with 24 hours in the simulation, an ordinary person would never have improved as fast as Austin.
Caleb glanced at Alex and Austin, then looked over at the black-haired young man, frowning as he asked, "I'll ask, and you answer."
"If your answer doesn't satisfy me, then I'll just have to kill you."
The black-haired young man gritted his teeth, mustering the last of his courage to resist, "Bastard, you—"
However, his words died on his lips as he watched Alex drag his two companions out from the smoke.
They… were also dead.
Alex was already used to killing, so this sort of thing didn't pose any difficulty for him, nor did it make him feel any guilt.
On the contrary, Austin and Caleb both frowned.
Caleb only glanced at the bodies briefly and then paid them no further attention. Austin, however, felt a certain discomfort inside.
In the past, though he had been reckless, he'd never gone so far as to kill people.
But he quickly suppressed that discomfort, telling himself, 'If they hadn't died, it would have been me. There's no need to pity them.'
At this point, Caleb shrugged and said, "You see it clearly, don't you? You don't want to become the fourth corpse here, do you?"
The young man gritted his teeth, then nodded, his expression filled with utter despair: "I… I'll answer. Please don't kill me."
"Good! The first question…" Caleb frowned, his gaze fixed on the young man's face, "How many Lords from your region have gathered here?"
The young man glanced at Caleb, then looked at the three corpses lying on the ground, pursed his lips, and replied, trembling, "I… I… I don't know."
"I only know that the Captain selected quite a few Lords to prepare for this event. But we were allowed to act independently, without having to follow her orders."
Caleb frowned and continued, "You didn't receive any specific orders?"
The young man nervously replied, "No, I… I only got the command to eliminate all the lower-ranked lords I came across. There was one other order."
"That was… to search for the whereabouts of the Evil God."
