Lady billionaire's husband

Chapter 66: Uncle's side of the story 2

John exhaled heavily just recalling the story. As much as she tried to deny it, Linda could see in his eyes, this man was telling the truth. She watched him silently as his face became darker and gloomier.

John exhaled heavily, before speaking again. Replaying the old memories was like opening Pandora's box, he knew this day would come eventually, but he never thought it'd be this soon. Despite the fact that so much time has passed, the pain from that day - the day he lost everything still felt fresh, he continued, "The same mail was sent to Mother....and that, my dear niece, was the beginning of my bad days - a chain of reaction. Just like dominos, a few days after that, I had lost all potential investors for my company and my parents' trust, my possibility of starting my company - all because of that scandal. Tony pulled me out of his company - but he remained an acquaintance, he promised to help me regain my investments and what I have lost... "

'What you have lost? you mean stealing back Global Tech and taking my mother's legacy...', Linda smirked in her head as she quietly listened to her uncle...

Feeling his chest clenching and stomach-churning and burning with anger and regret, he sighed and suddenly said, "Anyway, believe it or not...I had nothing to do with your parent's death and I think we are done now", he stood up to show her the door.

Linda stood up quietly, her mind was pacing. Everything she thought she knew was put into question, her reality was distorted. For some reason, his voice was sincere but she refused to believe that her uncle, the wicked schemer could fall victim to such a weak plan - how could she be so wrong about everything? Surely there was some truth in what she believed,

She exhaled, "So you are saying you were also a victim?"

Without hesitation, "Yes", he muttered

Linda was still in disbelief, this was the same man she'd watched scheme against her throughout her childhood, the same man who had schemed to steal her mother's legacy, he couldn't just be innocent, "But uncle, if you finally gave up on Global Tech, why are you fighting for it now?", She asked with a hint of annoyance,

John's face darkened with annoyance of his own, "Because you are your father's daughter... You are the reminder that a stranger was once chosen over me, and now, a child is chosen.", he hissed, and the air instantly turned ominous as he slowly strode towards her, "See Linda, I did not kill your parents, nor did I wish ill on my sister - but your father- I despised. You - You are exactly like him... a painful sore refusing to heal. The only thing stopping me from hurting even a single hair on your pretty head is my guilt towards my sister...but don't be mistaken, if the house was burning and you were stuck inside it - I think I would let you burn with it.", his darkened tone was masked with nothing but resentment for his niece - his hatred for her has never been clearer. Instead of fear, Linda was relieved, there he was! The uncle she knew and grew up with, the shrewd human being she's grown accustomed to. She couldn't believe she was almost swayed into believing there was some humanity in there. She was not hallucinating, this uncle hated her very core, he may have been duped many years ago, but that doesn't erase the torment and suffering her parents suffered at his hands.

She chuckled ridiculously surprising John, the manic expression on her face made him take a few steps back, it was something he'd never seen before. He thought for sure she would be quivering with fear like she always had but for some reason, she seemed more menacing than he was. With a smirk, she breathed, "You know uncle, throughout the year - I have watched you torment and insult me with your words. You killed my cat just to mess with me, and throughout those years, I had to sit by the corner and pretend I was scared because I connected you to my mother's death - and of course, my poor granny. Those were the only things stopping me from retaliating - but dear uncle, not anymore. So a few words of advice, going forward, your immunity is lifted, come for me or my mother's galleries (directly or indirectly), you will be sorry. To think I felt sorry for how you lost Global Tech - You honestly don't even deserve my sympathy". She headed straight for the door that was already open, but before she exited, she turned and smiled, "Oh, and uncle, if I was stuck in a burning house...I am 100% sure you will be in there, burning along with me."

Her smile sent shivers down John's back, who was still puzzled by the sudden change in behavior. She was no longer that little girl he knew, and for some reason, he found the entire situation amusingly scary. He was snapped back to his senses by his chiming phone and he began laughing hysterically, "This is interesting...I just got threatened by a little girl. I need to clip those wings -I see she's forgotten her place.", his nostrils suddenly flared with rage.

At the same time, Lilly and Joseph were seated quietly in the lounge waiting for news of their granddaughter, they thought for sure she would not be coming back, that was until they saw the door spring open, "Uncle didn't do it....we need to find the real killer and I have feeling that person is just under our nose".
