Lady billionaire's husband

Chapter 63: The Gala: The announcement 2

Still in shock, all attention remained on Lilly as she closed her announcement, "Settle down, settle down children. I am not done- there will be plenty of time to gossip after the announcement....", another chuckle broke out from the audience, "Anyway....I have never seen my angel so smitten before, it really warms an old heart, thank you, Jeremy. I wish you two a happy union. Come up here you two!"

As they stood up, everyone applauded with a mixture of emotions and confusion, the sudden union was a surprise they didn't expect, especially the two families, known for their rivalry.

Linda stood up with a smile, and Jeremy stood to plant a warm kiss on her forehead, putting a validation stamp on their relationship causing another round of uproar.

Ignoring all the noise, he affectionately took her hand, fueling everyone to gasp even more. His confidence surprised even Linda, he was really handling the feedback like a pro, and she couldn't be happier. Besides, she loved every second of his attention.

She smiled at him as he led her to the podium where Lilly was patiently waiting, "You two look amazing..", she said as she took both their hands into hers, "I wish you stay together like this, fight for each other, and protect each other-", she pulled Jeremy in for a hug, "Welcome to the family young man - please take care of my gem. NO TEARS! I MEAN IT!", her sternness sent a loud and clear warning to him.

He chuckled awkwardly, "I would never in this lifetime. You have nothing to worry about...",

She let him go and focused her attention on her granddaughter who had tears dancing in her eyes, "Oh dear, why do you have tears. Are you that happy?", she hugged her, "You mean a lot to me, and hurting you should not be excused....". The sadness in her tone made Linda even more anxious.

She watched as Lilly returned to her seat and then began to give her final address: "Thank you for coming, everyone. This concludes tonight's program. I hope you enjoyed the food, and thank you for all your donations. Thank you so much for coming and helping us celebrate this moment—my fiancé and I thank you. You are now free to leave, or you can stay and mingle. Either way, please enjoy the rest of the evening."

Linda couldn't wait to get off the stage and talk to her grandparents. She was worried about them, but first, she had to find Freddy.

"Have you guys seen Freddy?", she asked upon finding an empty seat,

Sharon's eyes wandered around the hall before falling back on Linda, "Hmm... maybe he went to the washroom, but I think your grandparents left, they said to tell you goodbye..."

Linda was starting to tremble, she was now sure something was amis, 'What the hell is going on!?', she screamed in her head in frustration. She's never been the one to be left in the dark before, especially when something was wrong in the family, so why the sudden shift?

"Babe, I have to leave, I need to get to the bottom of this, see you tomorrow...", she kissed Jeremy softly on the cheek,

He blushed, "Take care fiancé...please tell me when you get home."

Linda anxiously rushed out only to spot her Grandparents having a conversation with Freddy, and it didn't look like it was a good one. Without wasting time, she rushed to the trio, with a stern and frustrated tone, she roared, "What is going on? And no lies Grandpa..."

Freddy ran his hands through his hair and chuckled nervously, "Li-Linda....what makes you think-"

Still with a stern tone, Linda said, "Not today Freddy...something is wrong, and I can feel it...none of you were acting like yourselves. Wait, is someone dying??"

Lilly cried, "What?! No..."

Fearing the next thing that would come of his mouth, Freddy sighed heavily, "I think someone is calling me. Talk to you later.". 'It looks like it's too late, she's caught on...', he thought as walked off

Lilly gently took her granddaughter's hands into hers, "You should also go back to the party, this is always the best part of the evening, don't miss it for us grown folks. We are not young anymore, your grandfather is already complaining about his back...", she kissed her on the forehead before letting go of her hands.

The car arrived, and the driver came out to open the door for them, Joseph went in while Lilly bid Linda for the last time. Unaware of Linda's plan, Lilly hugged her one time, then got into the car, "Will call you tomorrow sweet-"

Before she could finish the sentence, Linda jumped to the front seat, "Nice try. Something is wrong and we are going to talk about it tonight. Take us home sir."

Joseph yelled, "Li-Linda, don't be stub-"

Lilly held his hand, and shook her head silencing her husband, then turned back to Linda, "Okay, I guess there is no better time than tonight. Let's talk when we get home."
