Chapter 47: Chapter 47: The Whirlwind Kid

Chapter 47: The Whirlwind Kid

Ebisu seemed quite pleased after his match. He tilted his head back with a smug smile, adjusted his glasses, and gave Might Guy—who was doing push-ups—a congratulatory pat on the back.

Guy looked up at Ebisu, flashed a bright smile, and gave him a double thumbs-up.

"Great job, Ebisu! I believe in you!"

Ebisu's victorious demeanor instantly crumbled.

Seeing Ebisu's awkward expression, Iwashi couldn't hold back his laughter and chimed in,

"Uh, Guy… Ebisu already finished his match."

"Oh, really? Well done, Ebisu! You're amazing!"

As Ebisu stood there, stunned by Guy's unrelenting enthusiasm, Guy doubled down with another blinding smile, exaggerated thumbs-up, and even a wiggle of his thick eyebrows.

Ebisu, now covered in metaphorical storm clouds, clenched his jaw and muttered through gritted teeth,

"I… I need to take a moment to myself."

"Alright! I'll work even harder, then!" Guy leaped to his feet, wiped the sweat from his brow, and immediately transitioned into a set of squats.

---

The referee's voice boomed across the arena.

"Match 7: Might Guy versus Koki Shuki—prepare for battle!"

"Guy, go get 'em!"

"Do your best, Guy!"

The team eagerly cheered Guy on, their encouragement charging him up like a spinning top ready to burst into motion.

"Everyone, I won't let you down!"

Guy's expression was a mix of determination, gratitude, and a tinge of vulnerability. As someone who had relied solely on taijutsu to become a genin, his path was marked by hardship. He had often been underestimated, but now, standing in an arena filled with people cheering him on, he felt that all his struggles had been worth it.

---

"Hey, isn't that the whirlwind kid? The one who spins around like crazy and kicks butt?"

"Yeah, that's him! This match might be interesting. His opponent, Koki Shuki, is a well-known taijutsu fighter who's trained with various ninja across the land."

"Shuki's tough, but the whirlwind kid has something special. This should be good!"

As whispers about Guy spread through the stands, the crowd's energy intensified.

"Shuki! Shuki!"

"Whirlwind Kid! You rock, Whirlwind Kid!"

Guy scratched his head, confused.

"Whirlwind Kid? Is that… me?"

Before he could fully process the nickname, a tall man with long hair and a sleek ninja outfit approached him.

"Hey, Whirlwind Kid. You've got potential. How about we team up and take down the other guy first? Then we can fight one-on-one."

Guy blinked in confusion, pointing to himself.

"Uh, are you talking to me?"

"Of course, I am! Everyone's calling you that. Didn't you know?"

Shuki's tone held a mix of exasperation and amusement as he tried to convince Guy. However, instead of agreeing, Guy straightened up, his face set in a serious expression.

"I've decided. I won't team up with you to take him down."

"What?! Why not? It's strategic! We beat him together, then have a fair fight. Isn't that better?"

Guy shook his head, his eyes resolute.

"I've always been alone in my efforts. But today, so many people are supporting and believing in me. I need to prove that I can rely on myself and my training. So, let's fight now, just you and me, putting everything we've worked for on the line."

Shuki's expression darkened.

"Effort? Ha! Effort doesn't mean anything. Do you think just anyone can become strong like you at your age? I've fought and begged, but no matter how much I've tried, I could never gain the power those high-and-mighty ninja have."

Shuki's voice cracked with bitterness, and a tear rolled down his cheek. He turned to the third fighter.

"You know who I am, right? Let's team up. I'll take the lead, and once we deal with him, you and I can settle the rest."

The third fighter hesitated briefly before shaking his head.

"No. It's fairer if you two fight first. I'll wait."

Shuki let out a bitter laugh, his face contorting with anger.

"Fine. Come at me, Whirlwind Kid. Show me what you've got!"

---

As soon as the match began, Shuki vanished, reappearing at Guy's side with a lightning-fast roundhouse kick.

"Bang!"

Guy, caught off guard, was sent flying. Despite blocking with his elbow at the last moment, the force of the kick left his arm numb. Clenching and unclenching his fist, he managed to shake off the pain.

"How's that? I learned this technique from seasoned ninja—a combination of raw power and speed. Impressive, right?" Shuki smirked, basking in his perceived superiority.

But his grin didn't last.

Guy vanished in turn, appearing behind Shuki and launching a sweeping kick. Shuki leaped back just in time, narrowly evading the strike. Yet Guy's relentless momentum continued, spinning into a rapid series of kicks.

"Invincible Whirlwind!"

Shuki raised his arms to block but still absorbed a powerful blow, sending him skidding back. His arms trembled, rendered nearly useless from the impact.

Guy didn't let up, closing the distance and throwing a punch. Shuki barely dodged, but the gap in their physical conditions was becoming evident.

Desperate, Shuki launched a spinning double-kick, aiming to overwhelm Guy with sheer force. Guy, however, anticipated the move. With an acrobatic flip, he avoided the attack entirely.

"Argh!"

Shuki landed awkwardly, one hand touching the ground for balance.

"That's it! You're dead meat!"

Fuelled by rage, Shuki charged at Guy, his movements wild and uncoordinated. Guy, calm and focused, dodged each blow with practiced ease.

In a last-ditch effort, Shuki attempted a grappling move, hooking his leg around Guy's elbow to set up a devastating spin-kick.

But Guy was faster. Seizing Shuki's leg mid-attack, he swung him around like a whirlwind, releasing him with incredible force.

Shuki crashed to the ground, utterly defeated.

The remaining opponent trembled as Guy's intense gaze fell upon him. Raising a shaky hand, the man stammered,

"I-I surrender. I'm done."

The referee clapped the man on the shoulder and approached Guy, lifting his arm high.

"Match 7, Might Guy wins!"

"Whirlwind Kid! Whirlwind Kid! You're amazing!"

For the first time, Guy realized the entire arena was chanting his nickname. Tears streamed down his face as he bowed repeatedly to the crowd.

"Thank you! Thank you, everyone!"

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Guy could only repeat his thanks, his heart filled with determination to carry this moment forward.
