Chapter 36: Chapter 36 White! Magic Mirror Ice Crystal!

Morkel looked at the fireball that suddenly disappeared with satisfaction.

This was the result of his new understanding of chakra and ultimate ninjutsu control over the past few days!

Inari snapped out of his shock and hurried forward to check on his mother. Fortunately, Morkel had extinguished the fireball in time, leaving her unharmed.

Then, Inari turned around and dropped to his knees with a loud thud.

"Thank you!!"

He looked up at Morkel with sincere gratitude. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been able to stop those two warriors, and I might have lost my life."

Morkel nodded. "You're right."

Inari: (╥_╥)

Morkel continued, "Passion alone isn't enough. Sometimes, you need to use your brain to achieve your goals."

"You should head home quickly. Cardo sent warriors to take you hostage, which means something is happening at the bridge. I'm going to check it out."

With that, Morkel disappeared from sight.

On the Bridge

Kakashi, Naruto, and Sasuke had just escorted Uncle Dazna to the bridge. However, when they arrived, a grim scene awaited them.

The workers who had been constructing the bridge were sprawled across the ground, either unconscious or dead. Tools were scattered everywhere, the entire site a chaotic mess.

Kakashi immediately sensed danger.

"Stay alert. Sasuke, Naruto—protect Dazna and stay close."

As they braced themselves, a thick mist began rolling in, rapidly engulfing the bridge. Their vision was soon obstructed.

"This mist... It's the Hidden Mist Jutsu. A signature technique of the Mist Village's assassins," Kakashi said, gripping a kunai tightly.

Uncle Dazna's face fell. "This is my fault... The workers got caught up in my problem."

"Don't blame yourself, Uncle. You only wanted to help this island," Naruto reassured him.

"If this bridge isn't completed, the Land of Waves will remain under Cardo's tyranny. More people will suffer, become homeless, or starve. We can't let that happen," Sasuke added.

Suddenly!

A shadow moved through the mist, a silent specter of death.

Then, a chilling voice spoke: "You're all quite chatty. Are you underestimating me?"

A tall figure emerged from the fog. His back carried an enormous blade, nearly as long as he was tall.

It was Zabuza Momochi.

Without another word, he swung his massive sword with deadly precision!

KLANG!

Kakashi reacted instantly, raising his kunai to intercept the attack. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through his arm, forcing him back a step.

"Zabuza?" Kakashi's eyes narrowed. "I thought you were taken by the Hunter-nin from the Mist?"

Realization dawned on him. "I see... It was a trick. That Hunter-nin was your accomplice."

Zabuza smirked. "So you finally figured it out."

Without hesitation, he formed hand signs.

Poof!

A group of water clones materialized, surrounding Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke, and Dazna.

Zabuza scanned their group. Morkel was missing. "Where's the red-haired brat?"

"Lucky for him he's not here, or I'd personally carve out his heart."

Zabuza sneered, gripping his sword tighter. "But as for you... I'll make sure none of you escape this time."

Naruto scoffed. "You're the one who ran away last time! And you used a cheap trick to do it!"

Zabuza twitched. "That was strategy!"

Naruto smirked. "Oh yeah? Looked more like playing dead to me."

Zabuza's eye twitched. "Enough talk!"

At his command, the water clones rushed at them!

Kakashi and Sasuke exchanged a glance.

SWOOSH!

Both moved simultaneously, slashing through the clones with their kunai. Within seconds, all of them were dispelled.

Zabuza, watching from the mist, frowned. "They've improved. They're resisting my clones better than before."

He clenched his sword. "I won't repeat past mistakes. This time, I'll send you to hell personally."

Sasuke flipped his kunai into a reverse grip, his expression cold. "Big talk, but you're not worthy of being my opponent."

Zabuza sneered.

A moment later, another figure stepped onto the mist-covered bridge.

The squad turned to see a small-framed figure wearing the familiar uniform of the Mist Village's Hunter-nin.

It was Haku, the one who had "taken" Zabuza away before.

"So they were working together," Naruto growled. "I knew something was off!"

Haku's voice was calm and polite. "I'm sorry, but I have something I must protect."

"Haku, stop talking. I'll handle Kakashi. You take care of those two brats," Zabuza ordered.

He glanced back at Naruto. "Especially that blond runt. I'll tear his mouth off myself later."

Naruto's face twisted in anger. "What kind of grown man holds a grudge over a few jokes?!"

Zabuza dragged a finger across his throat in a silent threat. "Enough. Begin."

With that, he lunged at Kakashi, swinging his executioner's blade.

Meanwhile, Haku reached into his pouch, pulling out several senbon needles and launching them at Naruto and Sasuke.

Both dodged quickly.

Naruto smirked. "Even if Kakashi-sensei is busy with the eyebrowless dude, you're alone against us. That means we have the advantage."

"Oh?" Haku's voice was unreadable. Then, he formed a series of hand seals.

"Secret Jutsu: Demonic Ice Mirrors!"

SWOOSH!

A series of ice mirrors formed around Naruto and Sasuke, creating a shimmering, frozen dome.

Naruto and Sasuke tensed, their breath visible in the sudden chill.

Naruto gulped. "W-what kind of crazy jutsu is this?!"

The mirrors gleamed ominously, and Haku's reflection appeared in each one. Then, before either could react, Haku stepped into one of the mirrors and disappeared—only to reappear inside every single one of them.

Sasuke's grip on his kunai tightened. "This... is bad."

Haku's cold voice echoed from the reflections.

"Let's begin."
