Konoha: The King of Souls from Uchiha

Chapter 70: CHAPTER 70

c70: The Art of Spiritualization (Part 2)

In the original timeline, Kato Dan's death likely stemmed from either his body's hiding place being discovered or his teammates failing to adequately protect him during the battle. Another plausible explanation is that he didn't have the opportunity to activate the Spiritualization Technique and was critically wounded before he could act.

However, this core weakness of the Spiritualization Technique is entirely irrelevant when it comes to Gen Uchiha—because he possesses the Soul-Soul Fruit's power!

Through conventional means, Homiz like Zhu Rong and Wu Sheng can protect Gen's body, or he can even create a temporary Homiz territory to conceal himself. Within such a zone, the enemy would struggle to locate his physical body, and even if they did, penetrating the Homiz defenses to reach it would be exceedingly difficult, especially since the body can be relocated at any moment by Homiz.

In essence, even if the enemy proves too formidable for the Homiz to withstand, they can still buy enough time for Gen's soul to return safely.

A more refined tactic is using the Soul-Soul Fruit's soul-splitting ability: one portion of the soul can enter spiritual form while the other remains behind to guard and operate the body. This effectively eliminates all risk.

In canon, Kato Dan was already deceased and used his Spiritualization Technique through a soul with no physical anchor, thus he had total battlefield mobility. But for the living, it is far more dangerous. In Gen's case, though, his soul power is far greater than an average shinobi's, and the distance his soul can travel is vastly beyond what Kato Dan ever demonstrated.

Moreover, with his soul-splitting ability, Gen faces no time limitation. He can maintain a soul state indefinitely.

Another significant advantage is Gen's ability to attack multiple targets simultaneously through soul division, whereas Kato Dan could only possess one enemy at a time. This, of course, hinges on the strength of the individual soul fragments—if they're too weak, not only will they fail to overwhelm the enemy, but they may also suffer backlash.

For Kato Dan, every activation of the technique was a gamble, wagering that his soul would overpower the enemy's. In the Naruto world, methods of soul damage are rare. Most involve physical violence or soul devouring. Both inflict significant harm and are extremely difficult to heal. For instance, after Orochimaru's forced soul transfer and reincarnation, his resistance to genjutsu was greatly diminished—a direct result of soul trauma.

Still, the fact that Kato Dan mastered an S-rank kinjutsu like the Spiritualization Technique proves his soul was abnormally strong—likely stronger than most jōnin. As long as he avoided top-tier threats like the Sannin or jinchūriki, the risk was manageable. Even when soul strength was comparable, overwhelming chakra levels could still offset spiritual jutsu due to sheer force and resilience.

However, chakra isn't everything—after all, it's only half physical. Gen Uchiha, empowered by the Soul-Soul Fruit, has no fear of backlash. Even if he sustains soul damage, he can absorb other souls and lifespans to regenerate. For him, injuries to the soul are no different than physical wounds.

As Gen's spiritual strength increases, the range of his Spiritualization Technique will continue expanding. Sooner or later, the entire shinobi world will lie within his grasp.

With such power, he could watch the tides roll from a distant beach, soar from the Northern Sea to the evening sky in a blink, dine among clouds, and live like a daoist immortal in a cultivation legend.

And when the need arises—when killing intent sparks—he could traverse continents in seconds and assassinate his target without leaving a trace.

All major factions' headquarters in the shinobi world will become meaningless to him. Few villages maintain permanent soul-detection barriers; most only activate them during wartime or crises.

Even constant activation wouldn't stop him. With the power to possess others, Gen can bypass such defenses using a physical host as cover. Possessed individuals carry the invading soul under a guise the barriers can't detect.

Kato Dan could only control one person at a time—and only temporarily. Gen Uchiha, on the other hand, faces no theoretical upper limit. So long as his soul is strong enough, he can maintain control over multiple hosts simultaneously.

This control ability also leads naturally into body-seizing techniques. Even without learning such jutsu himself, Gen could obtain the Living Corpse Reincarnation Technique from Orochimaru. At its core, it's an advanced form of body possession—albeit with flaws.

Though the Living Corpse Reincarnation Technique has limitations and doesn't fundamentally elevate one's existence, it offers immense practical value: the smaller the host's soul resistance, the more of Gen's original power he can retain—up to 100% at best.

If Orochimaru were to collaborate with Gen, they could theoretically perfect a side-effect-free version of the technique—achieving functional immortality, even if it's not a true spiritual ascension.

Additionally, Gen can use the Spiritualization Technique to harvest souls and lifespans without moving physically. His divided souls—although weaker—retain the ability of the Soul-Soul Fruit, albeit at diminished potency. The smaller the split, the weaker the fragment's powers.

Still, these weaker souls can extract life essence and souls from hosts over time. A possessed body will gradually reject a foreign soul due to incompatibility, but in that window, extraction is possible.

If Gen goes a step further and fully seizes a body, he can continuously drain its soul and lifespan, turning the host into an eternal shadow clone that feeds the original.

The accumulated life force and soul energy are sent back to Gen's main body, enhancing both his soul and the Spiritualization Technique. Thus, soul harvesting and spiritual projection synergize perfectly—truly a divine combination.

No other ninjutsu—not even Space-Time Techniques—could incite such enthusiasm in Gen Uchiha.

Because of that, he spent nearly the entire night studying on the sofa without rest.

By dawn, he had essentially mastered the theory, mechanics, and precautions of the Spiritualization Technique.

For someone like him, mastering the technique was inevitable—it was just a matter of understanding the principles. Once he grasped them, he could execute them.

So he did.

Despite staying up all night, Gen Uchiha felt no fatigue. Shifting from lying flat to sitting cross-legged, he began forming the hand seals.

Chakra coursed through his meridians in precise patterns matching the scroll's instructions. When it reached his forehead—the Niwan Palace—a strange reaction occurred: like clouds being parted, a gate opened at the spiritual core of his being.

A translucent soul began to drift out of his crown.

This soul was far more ethereal than those seen during the Fourth Great Ninja War. Its features were faint, nearly indistinct.

Though confident, Gen still played it safe—releasing only one-third of his soul outside the body.

Zhu Rong and Wu Sheng, who had been napping nearby, were immediately startled. They buzzed over, their faces filled with curiosity.

Gen Uchiha guided the third of his soul out of the house, ignoring walls and barriers, until he floated silently into the neighboring home.

He peered down at the peacefully sleeping couple and frowned. This technique... might be dangerously effective for espionage.

No. That's just wrong! He wasn't some peeping pervert!

Banishing the thought, he phased through the ceiling and drifted into the morning sky, reveling in the freedom.

When golden rays finally lit the horizon, Gen calmly returned his soul to his body.

Ordinary civilians likely couldn't see his soul due to its chakra composition—but ninja might.

Moreover, the soul here in the shinobi world was nourished by chakra. Wind, rain, snow, or sunlight could not easily disturb it.

Even so, Gen couldn't afford to let his soul roam carelessly.

The Spiritualization Technique couldn't be exposed too freely, or it would compromise its future usefulness in stealth missions.

A glance at the clock: 6:10 a.m.

He got up and made a simple breakfast—an omelet over noodles.

Afterward, Gen headed to bed.

No police work today—Orochimaru-sensei had granted him time off to study the jutsu.

Time to make up for the night he never slept.

Even if it's too late for a full recharge, catching a few hours still helps maintain his edge.
