Chapter 90: Chapter 90
In a dark cave, a shimmering firelight flickered, one moment bright, the next dim, filling the space with a dark and obscure atmosphere. At the end of the cave stood the giant head of the Gedo Mazo, its eyes tightly closed.
There, stood nearly ten figures dressed in the red-clouded robes of the Akatsuki. Every single person here, if taken out, was a powerful ninja who had once shaken the ninja world. They were almost uniformly S-rank missing-nin. An entire organization of villains, at the Kage level or even higher.
Such an exaggerated amount of combat power gathered together was enough to steamroll any of the hidden villages. They constituted the number one organization in the ninja world:
The Akatsuki.
Suddenly, a distorted vortex tore through space. This fluctuation immediately attracted the attention of the Akatsuki members.
"They're finally back?"
"I wonder what that guy Itachi and Kisame are up to, being so slow."
"Yeah, and that fellow Tobi went out to support them, but he's also been dawdling until now."
In the darkness, the members chattered amongst themselves, their voices filled with impatient mockery.
But when they saw the people who fell out of the spatial vortex, their conversation came to an abrupt halt. Everyone took a sharp breath in, their faces shocked and grave.
Hiss.
What happened?
Two figures, covered in blood, stumbled out. Upon seeing the dark Gedo Mazo, Uchiha Obito finally breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had just gotten half his life back. He was filled with lingering fear. A hideous, extremely tragic wound was on his body. It was a terrifying sight. Starting from his right lung, almost half of his body had been completely shredded, revealing the pale texture of his flesh beneath.
Behind him was Uchiha Itachi, kneeling on the ground, his eyes covered in blood. The sight of his eerie, crimson pupils, combined with the dripping blood, was enough to make anyone's heart pound with fear.
"Tsk tsk tsk, to be in such a pathetic state, so seriously injured. It seems you guys aren't all that," a voice said from the shadows. Hidan, shouldering his death god's scythe, was making sarcastic remarks as he looked at the dying Obito. At first, Obito's injuries had really startled him. But so what? He, Hidan, blessed by the great Lord Jashin, was immortal. What was there to be afraid of?
"If I had known, I might as well have gone myself," Kakuzu, who was standing to the side and didn't like to talk much, added. At the same time, he stared at Obito's mangled body with desire. If Tobi were to die just like this, he could apply to the leader to dig out his heart and put it in his own body...
However, the distortion of the Kamui dimension was not over yet. Just as the fluctuation connecting the different spaces was about to disappear—
SWISH!
An astonishing sword aura, with the force of a rainbow, actually slashed out from the void. A golden-red sword light bloomed, instantly illuminating the entire dim Akatsuki base.
They were stunned. Everyone was stunned.
What's going on? Are we being attacked at our own doorstep?
Then, under everyone's horrified gazes, that sharp sword aura rushed towards them.
Schlick! Schlick!
The sound of flesh being cut was heard one after another, accompanied by screams of pain.
"What is this?"
"Dammit! What the hell did that bastard Tobi bring back with him?!"
The terrifying slash swept through all the Kage-level masters present. That one slash... how terrifying it was.
A deep, bloody gash was cut into Deidara's shoulder. His heart was filled with lingering fear. If he hadn't used his clay spiders to create an explosion in front of him just now to block a lot of the damage, if that sword aura had landed on his body, he would have been in a much worse state. Even so, he was still seriously injured.
Following him were Kakuzu and Hidan.
Schlick!
On the other side, Hidan's head was lopped off. It rolled on the ground with a thump, thump, thump. However, he wasn't dead. His mouth opened, and he was still shouting nonstop, "Ah! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts so much! Damn you, Tobi! Watch me sacrifice you to Lord Jashin!"
"Shut up! If you keep making noise, don't expect me to stitch you back together!" Kakuzu knelt on the ground, coughing up blood, revealing the dense black threads within his body, and... a shattered heart. Just now, his heart had been destroyed by one slash.
"Shinra Tensei!"
Just then, Pain promptly stepped forward, extending his hand and pushing at the empty air.
BOOM!!!!
A huge repulsive force roared out. An extremely strong, invisible wave spread out in all directions.
VMM!
Everyone felt their bodies stagnate, and then saw the rampaging sword aura's speed come to a halt.
"Great! We're saved!" Seeing this, Deidara and the others clutched their wounds and let out a huge sigh of relief.
Unfortunately, the situation on the field changed again.
Pain's Shinra Tensei actually failed to completely destroy this monstrous sword slash. Instead, it was cut open by the sword.
"How is that possible?" The eyes of the Deva Path Pain were filled with horror. At this moment, the other six paths were not by his side, and almost all his chakra was gathered in the Deva Path. Even if it wasn't a full-power strike, its power was definitely not weak. It had always been him repelling others' ninjutsu. This was the first time. The very first time that the Shinra Tensei he released had been broken, cut open by a sword aura as if it were nothing.
RUMBLE!
A series of giant roars seemed to crack the heavens and the earth. Smoke filled the air, and dust rose everywhere. When the dust in the air finally settled, the entire Akatsuki base was already a field of ruins. The cave was covered in scars scraped out by the sword aura, and one crack after another crisscrossed the ground, a shocking and terrifying sight.
"What on earth... happened?!" Deva Path Pain practically gritted out the words.
"Where's Kisame?" Only two people had appeared from the vortex. He had a bad feeling. And the terrifying slash that had followed... its power was simply world-shaking.
Thud, thud, thud.
A single head was casually tossed out by Obito. Kisame Hoshigaki's eyes, which would never close again, stared at them from the ground. Even the members of the Akatsuki, who were used to life and death, felt their hearts palpitate when they saw it.
Pain's brow furrowed. "What happened? With Kisame and Itachi partnered together, how could something like this happen?" The implication was clear. These two were among the strongest in the Akatsuki; there shouldn't have been any accidents.
"We ran into a monster," Obito, weakened, had no choice but to speak, as Itachi remained silent.
Then, he recounted everything he had experienced. With his cold personality, Obito's description was devoid of any personal emotion or embellishment. But the members of the Akatsuki still felt their scalps tingle.
A sword aura a hundred meters long? Parting the sea? Shattering a Susanoo? And... at least four different elemental transformations?
"Gulp..."
The sound of swallowing was heard one after another. The people present were all arrogant, but they were clearer than anyone about the strength of Itachi and Kisame. Deidara, Hidan, and the others had even been recruited by them.
"Do you still want to go?" At this moment, as if to get revenge for his earlier words, Obito suddenly asked Hidan coldly.
"Er..." Hidan didn't speak, just looking away. Although he wasn't afraid of death, it didn't mean he liked to throw his life away.
Kakuzu, on the other hand, had a wide grin on his face. He said excitedly, "If I run into that guy, I'm going to rip out his heart and put it in my body."
...
Back in the small town, after a great battle, Jiraiya and Kusuo both returned to their lodgings, slightly exhausted. Especially Kusuo; the switching between various breathing styles had caused a tearing reaction in his body. His muscles ached faintly. This was not a good sign.
"Looks like I still need to strengthen my physical body." Breathing methods could improve his body's speed, strength, agility, and so on. But this enhancement still depended on his own physical strength.
Shaking his head, Kusuo closed his eyes in enjoyment. Hinata was blushing, helping him wipe down his body. "Well? Is the pressure enough?" Although she didn't know what her beloved had just experienced, she could tell from the scorching hot skin when he returned that he must have gone through a world-shaking battle.
"It's enough..." he replied softly. Kusuo suddenly opened his eyes and pulled the girl beside him into his arms.
Splash!
The lights in the room went out.
...
The next day, Jiraiya took Naruto, and together with Kusuo and Hinata, they once again embarked on their journey to find Tsunade.
"Naruto, be careful on the road. Don't run off on your own," Jiraiya said, but the words went in one of Naruto's ears and out the other. Jiraiya was exasperated. He brought a fist down on his head. "Did you hear me?"
"Ouch! It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!" Naruto clutched his head and muttered, "I got it!"
Jiraiya was still not at ease. Although he didn't know what kind of conspiracy that mysterious organization had, from his previous investigation, he had a vague guess. These people might... be after the Tailed Beast inside Naruto.
"From now on, stick close to Kusuo. With him protecting you, you'll be much safer," Jiraiya added at the end, still worried.
"Stick close to Kusuo? Why? Isn't it safe with you, Sensei?" Naruto's wide eyes were full of confusion.
"Er..." That's right. Why did I tell Naruto to stick close to Kusuo? Am I not safe?
Or is it that... even in my own heart, I don't have absolute certainty that I can protect Naruto from those people?
Time flew by, and half a month passed. During this time, there were no more attacks from the Akatsuki. Jiraiya was much more relieved. And he didn't know why, but he always felt that this kid, Kusuo, was very mysterious. His temperament was outstanding, and he gave people a strong sense of security.
