Chapter 33: Chapter 33 – Surprise Attack: A Sudden Disaster
No matter what was going through Konata's mind at the moment, in front of Class 1-A, Thirteen continued speaking.
"A Quirk itself has no strength or weakness—it all depends on the user. My Quirk, Black Hole, is indeed powerful, but it's also extremely dangerous. A moment of carelessness, and I could end up getting sucked in myself. Every year, across the globe, many people die from either losing control of their Quirks or being killed by them. That's why in this class, I want to teach you how to use your Quirks to save others. Your power doesn't exist to hurt people. It exists to protect and rescue."
With that, Thirteen gave a polite bow to the students of Class 1-A.
"That's all. Thank you for listening."
"…Why are you all staring at me?"
Almost as soon as Thirteen finished, most of the class turned to look at Konata. Her mouth twitched under their stares.
"I remember Konata had a close call once—almost got killed by her own Quirk, right?"
"There was something about it on the news…"
"That cute dumb-looking girl with the ahoge…"
...
Konata: "...…"
That's why I absolutely HATE those dumb gossip reporters! Bastards!!!
"All right, save that discussion for after class."
Aizawa coughed a few times, casting a slightly strange glance at Konata before stepping forward.
"Well then, next we'll—"
BZZZZZ—!
At that moment, all the lights in the training facility simultaneously went dark. A strange, ominous atmosphere filled the arena, making it hard to breathe.
They've come, haven't they?
Konata's expression tightened. She immediately stepped closer to Izuku Midoriya and instinctively looked toward the water fountain area near the entrance—just in time to see the space begin to distort.
What is that…?
From the warped dimensional rift, one figure after another began to emerge. Aizawa's face darkened the moment he saw them. His thoughts jumped back to this morning—when U.A.'s security had been breached.
He turned sharply toward the students and shouted, "Stay together and don't move! Thirteen, protect the students!"
The sudden change left everyone in Class 1-A completely confused.
"Who are those people?"
"Wait, is this another surprise test like the entrance exam?"
"...…"
Chaos rippled through the crowd.
"Everyone, don't move!"
Aizawa barked the order as he put on his goggles, voice low and serious.
"They're all villains!!"
His words were like a splash of cold water into boiling oil. The class erupted into a frenzy. And in that short time, the number of enemies emerging from the warped portal had already exceeded a hundred, gathering at the edge of the Flood Zone training area.
Unlike the panicking students, Konata remained calm—she had suspected something like this might happen. She quickly moved behind Tenya Iida and tapped his shoulder.
"Iida, I need you to run back to the school and get help—now. The rest of you, prepare to defend."
"Konata…?"
Iida looked back in surprise.
"There's no time to explain. This was a premeditated ambush. Our communication devices are likely jammed. The enemy has a teleportation Quirk. There's no way all of us can escape. We need you to alert the teachers! You're the only one fast enough!"
Not waiting for a reply, Konata continued rapidly.
"Aizawa-sensei can't handle this many villains on his own. And they knew All Might was supposed to be here today—and still attacked. That means—!?"
Suddenly, a black mist surrounded Konata. Her eyes widened as her thoughts ground to a halt.
That fast!? Aren't villains supposed to monologue first before attacking? Isn't Deku supposed to be the target?! Why me…?
She instinctively turned toward Izuku's direction, just in time to see his face twist with panic as he rushed toward her—only to see her vanish from the platform in a blink.
"Ahhh, finally caught you… you slippery little brat."
A scrawny young man covered in dismembered hands scratched at his neck as he looked down at Konata, who had just been teleported to a new location. His tone dripped with irritation.
"!!!"
Almost reflexively, Konata snapped into a defensive stance as soon as her feet hit the ground. But when she realized her situation, she suddenly wanted to swear.
She was surrounded by shady-looking figures who clearly weren't here to chat. Standing before her was the strange young man and, next to him, a hulking figure with an exposed brain and a bird-like beak. A chill ran down Konata's spine.
"Um… I don't think I know you guys?"
She cast a quick glance up at the observation platform where Aizawa and the others had been, then looked back at the youth whose face was half-covered by a severed hand.
If Misaka Mikoto's transformation hadn't been on cooldown, she wouldn't have been worried. Numbers meant nothing against the Railgun. But of course, she'd just used her transformation to complete a story quest yesterday—now her trump card was unavailable. Escaping using only a few sub-skills wasn't realistic. The guy in front of her was creepy enough, but the bird-beast beside him… that one radiated pure death.
"Who knows? Sensei called for you specifically. So be a good girl and come with me… after I kill All Might, of course."
The young man reached out toward her, a hint of madness in his voice.
"Try not to resist, okay? I might not be able to hold back…"
Just then, a long cloth whip lashed out and yanked Konata backward at lightning speed.
Aizawa's cold voice rang through the air.
"Stay away from my student!!"
