Chapter 43: KOW Chapter 43 Anyone Can Become a Shinobi
At that moment, Fang Lan had already led a large force to surround the three-story building at the heart of the village.
With a cold gaze fixed on the tightly sealed doors and windows, Fang Lan raised his hand.
In an instant, the soldiers sprang into action, quickly encircling the building from all sides.
Nearly a thousand soldiers had surrounded the structure, and it was so tightly packed that not even a fly could escape.
"Front row, attention!" Fang Lan barked.
The front-line soldiers immediately focused, gripping their swords tightly, prepared for combat.
"Ready the explosive tags!"
"If they won't come out, we'll force them to!"
Fang Lan's voice was laced with bloodlust as he opted for the quickest solution.
The soldiers silently drew their explosive tags. At Fang Lan's signal, dozens of soldiers immediately attached the tags to their kunai and hurled them at the building.
Thud, thud, thud— the explosive tags stuck to the wooden structure on all sides.
Fang Lan led the soldiers several steps back, waiting.
Explosive tags, though one-time-use tools, packed considerable destructive power. In a confined area, their blast could obliterate any target, but they were expensive to produce. It was a heavy investment by the Hidden Leaf to deploy such weapons on a small scale.
"Sizzle, sizzle!"
A faint hissing sound began. The soldiers, gripping their weapons, stood ready, eyes trained on the building as they awaited the explosion.
Inside the three-story building, chaos was already brewing.
"Boss, what do we do? We're surrounded!"
A brown-haired rogue Shinobi, drenched in sweat and clutching a large knife, shouted anxiously, his face twisted in panic.
"Get ready— we break out!" The cold, commanding voice of the leader rang out.
"Break out? Are you insane? There's thousands of them!" The subordinates stared in disbelief.
They knew their leader to be a man of brute force—quick to use violence to solve any problem. When things got difficult, he relied on sheer strength, never hesitating to throw his weight around.
That's how they had been subdued in the first place.
But now, surrounded by thousands of enemies, he was planning a reckless escape?
The brown-haired Shinobi's face twitched. He wanted to ask if their boss had lost all sense of reason.
"What? Do you have a problem?" The leader's gaze grew colder, his voice dripping with malice.
His subordinates had long been conditioned to obey his cruel demands. No one dared to defy him, even now. But there was no way they would actually follow him in this suicidal breakout.
"Bunch of fools. If we don't break out, do you expect me to just sit here and wait to die?" The cold leader sneered, striding toward the window, intent on charging out.
He failed to notice that the explosive tags affixed to the window frame were primed to detonate.
As he reached for the window, ready to make his move, several pieces of paper caught his eye.
"Explosive tags?!"
His eyes widened in shock, a wave of panic flashing across his face.
Then—
"Boom!"
The building was rocked by a series of explosions. The entire wooden structure was torn apart in an instant. The cold leader, standing by the window, was consumed by the blast, his body shredded and flung violently back into the room from the window.
"They're coming for us!"
Witnessing their boss's brutal demise, the Shinobi inside panicked.
"Run!"
At the first sign of danger, they scattered like headless chickens, crashing into walls, each other, and furniture in the room.
"We can't go out! They'll cut us down!"
One of them shouted, and the rest cowered, hiding wherever they could.
But the flames from the explosive tags spread quickly, and soon thick smoke filled the room, leaving no place to hide.
Outside, Fang Lan and his soldiers waited, patient and unhurried.
Time passed, but the soldiers remained vigilant.
After about five minutes, someone inside the building coughed violently, attempting to escape the smoke.
"Kill them!" Fang Lan's voice rang out coldly as he gave the signal.
The soldiers rushed forward. Within moments, the remaining rogue Shinobi were slaughtered.
Though these rogue Shinobi still carried the title, their skills paled in comparison to those of Konoha's finest.
Soon, more Shinobi emerged from their hiding spots, only to be cut down one by one by the waiting soldiers.
Half an hour later, apart from five captured prisoners, the rest were dead.
By the time Qin Yi and the others arrived, the fire had been extinguished, and the cleanup of the entire island was complete under Fang Lan's command.
"Your Majesty, the island is secure," Fang Lan reported, placing his right hand over his chest, his voice filled with pride.
He knew the significance of their success, and his excitement was palpable.
Qin Yi, Qin Xiyao, and the other generals couldn't help but smile, equally pleased with the outcome.
"Excellent work, General Fang Lan," Qin Yi praised with a nod.
"Furthermore, we've captured five enemies alive. Whether to execute them or spare them is your decision, Your Majesty," Fang Lan said, pointing to the five Shinobi.
Qin Yi considered them for a moment. "Lock them up for now. We'll deal with them later."
"Understood!"
Fang Lan gave a sharp nod, and the soldiers swiftly escorted the five dejected Shinobi away.
With the immediate matters handled, Qin Yi turned to the generals.
"Brother, we need to establish a kingdom here as soon as possible. This base is crucial for stabilizing and developing our forces." Qin Xiyao spoke with urgency.
"Integrate the locals, bring them into our fold, and strengthen our power."
"Then, we can focus on enhancing the soldiers' combat capabilities."
"First, we secure a foothold, then we plan our next moves."
The generals spoke with conviction, but Qin Yi's face darkened, and a headache began to form.
"Conquer the Otherworld? Are they serious?"
Qin Yi thought to himself. The power of this world, as shown in later years, was nothing short of godlike. Such ambition was reckless.
"I reject this idea. Our focus should be on consolidation, not overextension."
Turning to Qin Lin, he gave a clear directive.
"Gather the people on this island. Inform them that we are establishing a kingdom here, and invite anyone who wishes to join us."
"Assign soldiers to handle the registration and ensure we keep track of the villagers who join."
"The most important task right now is to establish a functioning kingdom. At the very least, we need the framework in place."
He paused, then continued with authority.
"This framework must include both the kingdom and a Shinobi village. Both are essential."
"The kingdom will be composed of civilians, while the Shinobi village will be built by us. We must quickly recruit talented villagers to join the ranks of the Shinobi."
"We will impose no restrictions based on background, profession, or age. Anyone with the necessary potential and drive can become a Shinobi."
The room fell silent as the weight of Qin Yi's words sank in.
Everyone understood the risks of such a bold move, but they also realized the potential rewards— this decision would undoubtedly accelerate the kingdom's development.
