Chapter 20: Chapter 20 : ¿Slytherin?
Anduin walked to the front, sat down on the chair, and let Professor McGonagall place the Sorting Hat on his head. But at that moment, Anduin's mind was filled with curiosity about the Sorting Hat.
"Hmm, serious and rigorous, full of honor and with an almost infinite thirst for knowledge, strong-willed and determined, yet disciplined and disdainful of certain unreasonable rules. Why are your thoughts so mature? You don't sound like a young child at all. This is difficult. It seems your strengths could develop in any house. Could it be Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, or . . . " the Sorting Hat murmured inside Anduin's head.
'Can it really read people's minds? I wonder what this hat is made of and how it works. I've never seen such a personified alchemy tool. I really want to take it apart and see inside'. Anduin looked at the hat on his head with great curiosity, his mind filled with academic questions about it.
'Hey, kid, put away those dirty thoughts'. Anduin was still lost in thought when the Sorting Hat began to warn him.
Unfortunately, when you tell someone not to think of an elephant, that person thinks of an elephant first, so the Sorting Hat's warning only made Anduin imagine even more.
'Oh, can it even react to my thoughts? Are you a soul trapped inside a hat? Or is it true that someone can create such a personalized tool?'. Anduin became even more excited when he realized the Sorting Hat was talking to him. He couldn't help but touch the Sorting Hat with his hand, curious about what material it was made of.
'Oh my, put down those disgusting hands and those filthy thoughts!'. The Sorting Hat felt Anduin's thoughts were very dangerous, but it still dutifully pondered where to place him.
'In which house should I be sorted?'. That terrifyingly strong will reminded the Sorting Hat of the wizard who had left a deep impression on it years ago. That was . . .
'Merlin!!!'.
"Slytherin . . . !!!". The Sorting Hat clearly didn't want to waste any more time with Anduin and shouted loudly. It feared that if it spoke more slowly, it would regret it. With this young man's potential, placing him in that house, it hoped, would prevent him from falling into the wrong hands in the future.
Professor McGonagall on the stage was visibly stunned for a moment, and Charles and Vivian, below, were also surprised when they heard Anduin's house.
Although they hadn't known him long, based on their understanding of Anduin, they had never imagined he might be sorted into Slytherin.
But everything was decided. Anduin's wizard robe immediately began to change after the Sorting Hat announced the house name. Emerald green and silver patterns appeared on the edges of the robe, and the Slytherin crest materialized on his chest.
Anduin was also slightly stunned after hearing the Sorting Hat's decision, but his expression quickly returned to normal. "Hmph, does this broken hat hold grudges? Interesting." Anduin pouted and looked back at the Sorting Hat as he walked down the steps, and the Sorting Hat, with its personified expression, glared fiercely back at him.
As for the house he was sorted into, Anduin didn't really care, but subconsciously, he actually least wanted to be sorted into Slytherin, because before coming to school he had heard from Sirius that many Death Eaters came from Slytherin, and that the pure-blood supremacy ideology was very popular there.
"Could it be that my subconscious thoughts were also captured by the Sorting Hat, and that broken hat retaliated by sorting me into Slytherin? That seems unlikely," Anduin thought as he walked toward the Slytherin long table, where the students stood to welcome the new student. He wondered how they would react when they learned this new student came from a Muggle family.
"Welcome, Anduin Wilson. I am the Slytherin Prefect, Vanessa Greengrass." Vanessa Greengrass was a girl with long dark brown hair and brown eyes, currently in her sixth year. She gave off an overall impression of being polite and well-mannered.
"Hello, Prefect Greengrass, you can just call me Anduin." Anduin smiled slightly and shook hands with the prefect in front of him, then sat down next to Vivian.
"Oh, I can't believe you were sorted into Slytherin! I thought you'd go to Ravenclaw." Vivian exclaimed to Anduin as soon as he sat down, unable to contain her surprise.
"It doesn't matter to me which house I'm in, but I didn't expect to be hated by a broken hat right after starting school." Anduin replied indifferently.
"What broken hat? What do you mean? Are you talking about the Sorting Hat?" Vivian asked, puzzled.
"Nothing, don't worry about it. Let's wait for the sorting to finish." Anduin didn't continue the conversation and stopped it directly.
However, while Anduin and Vivian chatted, not far away at the same table, Travers sneered and glanced toward Anduin, then turned to talk to a few people next to him.
What Travers didn't notice was that Anduin, not far away, had also noticed him. Anduin narrowed his eyes at Travers and then began to observe the other students in his house. When entering a new environment, the first step was always to gain an initial understanding—not just of names, but more importantly, of those people's stances—especially since the magical world was currently at war.
Anduin then asked Vanessa, who was sitting across from him, "Prefect Greengrass, do you know if there are any students in our house with the last name Avery or Snape?"
"There are none among the current students, but I do have some impression of the two you mentioned, though they seem to be graduates from several years ago. Why do you ask about them?" Vanessa looked at Anduin with a puzzled expression.
"Oh, nothing, I just heard their names before and thought I'd ask." It seemed that the two Death Eaters he had fought before had no relatives attending the school, and Anduin couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
At that point, the sorting ceremony finally concluded. After the Sorting Hat and chair were removed, an old man with a long white beard walked out from the teachers' seats at the front of the Great Hall.
"Look! That's Dumbledore, known as the greatest wizard in the magical world today." Vivian excitedly introduced him to Anduin.
Anduin finally had time to seriously observe this old man, the great wizard who had always led the British magical world against Lord Voldemort.
But Anduin observed for a long time and didn't feel anything special about him; instead, he seemed like an ordinary old man next door. Dumbledore's speech on the stage was very brief, only a few sentences in total. After a simple greeting, he returned to his seat.
"All right, let the feast begin." Dumbledore returned to his seat and lightly tapped his cup with a spoon. Suddenly, food appeared out of thin air on the plates on the table, piled high.
All the young wizards cheered and, disregarding etiquette, grabbed the food in front of them and ate heartily.
The new Slytherin students were amazed by this magical magic and excitedly grabbed the food directly with their hands. However, Anduin noticed that the older students around them were much more reserved, using utensils to fork the food and slowly savoring it.
