Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Ice Mirror Shattered
Kakashi, recognizing the shift in momentum, turned his attention to the battlefield where Shisui was still fighting.
It didn't take long to realize his concerns were completely unnecessary.
True, the Kaguya's hardened bodies made it difficult for Shisui to kill them quickly under group pressure—
But Shisui's transitions between reality and illusion were just too fast.
His movement blurred the line between presence and afterimage—nothing short of ghostlike. There was no way those boneheads were catching him.
From Kakashi's judgment, unless Shisui ran out of chakra, getting hurt was pretty much off the table.
So instead of worrying, he figured: why not let the kid keep grinding?
Pressure forged diamonds—or in this case, a faster Uchiha.
And considering the monsters they'd be facing later, the stronger his teammates got now, the better.
With that thought, Kakashi shifted his gaze to the Demonic Ice Crystal Mirrors technique.
Byakuya Katsuhisa—who had been observing from the rear—felt an ominous chill the moment he saw the silver-haired youth who casually dismantled the Kaguya leader… looking directly at the mirror array.
"Everyone, use the Thousand Flying Water Needles to support the Yuki clan… wait—!"
Before Katsuhisa could finish, he watched in stunned horror as Kakashi's body flickered—and somehow phased directly into the Ice Mirror!
"What?!"
Only Yuki clan members who had awakened the Ice Release could enter that jutsu!
How did he get inside?
Was he… a forgotten clansman?
But then—what about the Magnet Style earlier?
Katsuhisa's brain short-circuited as it tried to process the contradictions.
Moments later, like lightning from a clear sky, an idea struck him.
Yes! That had to be it!
A Yuki clan member who never awakened Ice Release fled the Land of Water and ended up in the Land of Wind.
There, he met a civilian woman with latent Magnet Style blood—one thing led to another, and boom: a child.
Eventually, due to the war, the parents tried to escape the chaos by fleeing to the Fire Country…
Only to die tragically in a crossfire between ninja forces.
And that boy? Rescued by Konoha. Raised as one of their own. Trained. Molded.
And now… standing here, a living legacy.
"That's it!" Katsuhisa gasped in revelation. "You are our blood…!"
"Ah!"
"Ugh!"
"Ahhhh!"
Just as he prepared to emotionally guilt-trip Kakashi back to his 'roots,' screams echoed from within the mirror array.
His eyes widened in horror.
The youth was inside, calmly slaughtering Yuki clan members one by one.
Their bodies dropped limply, thrown from the mirror-world like broken dolls.
"You damn brat! Even if you're of my blood—I'll kill you myself!"
Enraged, Katsuhisa activated a secret technique and merged with the mirrors through chakra refraction, instantly appearing near Kakashi.
"Ice Release: Frost Nova!"
Inside the frozen realm of the Ice Mirror, Kakashi was elegantly carving through enemies with his blade.
That was, until a blinding white flash surged toward him.
"Whoa, too close," Kakashi muttered, vanishing in a crackle of electricity with Lightning Flash.
The attack landed where he'd just stood—detonating into a devastating snowflake-patterned blast.
The mirrors refracted the technique in all directions, freezing several of the Yuki clan who hadn't time to dodge.
Their rosy skin faded to pale white… then to lifeless gray.
Kakashi paused mid-air, blade in hand.
He watched as their vitality drained away in seconds, leaving behind perfect ice sculptures.
"…Okay, I'll give you that one," he muttered.
Internally, though, Kakashi gave Katsuhisa a big mental thumbs up.
Not only had the guy just wiped out his own squad for him—but he'd generously gifted him a peek at a beautiful S-rank Ice Release technique.
What a generous guy.
"Man, I need like… a dozen more enemies like this. Do they make these in bulk?"
Of course, before the next batch could be ordered, there was still the issue of this popsicle samurai in front of him.
"Sage Art: Great Fire Annihilation!"
FWOOOSH!
A roaring inferno surged forward, melting everything in its path.
The fire collided with Katsuhisa's frost technique, and a loud sizzle echoed as steam billowed outward.
The intense collision forced deep cracks across the surface of the mirror array.
Snap!
Like glass under pressure, the mirrors finally shattered—breaking apart into shards of ice and vapor.
And with that, only one Yuki clan member remained.
Katsuhisa stared in disbelief.
His clan. His technique. His legacy.
Gone.
Still, he straightened his posture, forced a 'warm' smile, and tried one last angle.
"Child… you possess the Ice Release bloodline. You and I… we are kin."
"Oh, it just came back to me! A child from our clan was kidnapped as a baby!"
"And… if he'd lived, he'd be just about your age."
"Konoha… they must've stolen you to gain access to our bloodline!"
"Your parents—they traveled far to find you. They were slain… by Konoha shinobi!"
His voice was trembling, yet filled with such raw conviction that for a second—even he believed it.
And Kakashi?
Kakashi's expression twisted in all the right directions: shock, disbelief, conflict, hesitation.
Exactly what Katsuhisa hoped for.
Yes… this boy could be his second chance.
So strong, so gifted—if he could just get him on his side, he could restore the Yuki clan's former glory!
The Ice Release was real. That couldn't be faked.
This was destiny!
"Chidori."
A voice, cold and cutting, came from behind.
Katsuhisa froze. A chill far worse than ice crawled up his spine.
Too late.
He looked down—lightning flashed through his chest.
A hand had pierced straight through him.
"You… when?"
He gasped, blood pooling in his throat.
He had just been talking to the boy… hadn't he?
Poof!
The Kakashi in front of him vanished in a puff of smoke.
"Shadow Clone. You really thought I was buying that soap opera back there?"
The real Kakashi stepped forward, brushing a bit of frost from his sleeve.
Truth was, he'd used Earth Style: Hiding Like a Mole to dig beneath while Katsuhisa rambled.
He would've ended things sooner, but hey—never interrupt a villain mid-monologue. It's just bad manners.
"I mean, really... separated clan members? Parents searching across continents? Bro, that's a full-season drama right there."
Katsuhisa gasped again, barely holding on.
"But… you do possess the Ice Release…"
"Oh, that? Nah, just learned it after watching you."
Kakashi raised a hand and grinned casually.
"Turns out, if you've got hands, you can learn Ice Release too."
"You—!"
Spurt!
Katsuhisa coughed blood one final time before collapsing.
His eyes stayed open—frozen in disbelief.
