Chapter 1331: How the Elites Fight
Like a horde of zombies, the cursed zakos rushed at the hunting expedition kaijin with the sole intent of sending them back to whatever pit the latte had crawled out of.
The kaijin, in turn, charged at the zakos like barbarians.
For the longest time, these monstrous warriors had nobody worth fighting except each other, and those fights would usually end with someone's [Core] getting devoured.
But now, they had something that could put up a fight while also being able to go all out in killing them.
It was a dream come true for the murderous louts.
That stated, this was an absolute nightmare to the guy who tried to organize this ambush.
'Damn it, damn it, damn it!' Zhen Liu mentally cursed as he saw his well-laid plans go up into smoke and bone dust, 'what the fuck do I do now?!'
If Zhen Liu wasn't surrounded by enemies and a guy who he wanted to brain, he would've been screaming out of frustration and probably biting his nails by now.
He had been wanting to drag out this hunting expedition for a week at least, or two months at most.
The more time he could keep Dante and his core fighters away from the mines, the more time he could give the others to firmly establish roots and sabotage the whole place from the inside out.
But now, because of the cursed properties of this land, Zhen Liu's entire load of zakos was about to blown in an instant instead of over time.
'Do I make new zakos? No, if I do that then there's definitely a chance that Dante or one of his so-called "Demon Knights" will notice and...and...hold up...'
However, being forced to act calmly like this, allowed him to take in the entire picture and realize that this unforeseen violence was actually an opportunity.
'Wait a minute...'
As Zhen Liu watched his compromised zakos fight Dante's Kaijin, a realization dawned upon him like a lightbulb in the dark.
'Those Demon Knight weirdos are getting involved in the fighting as well...meaning I can now gather information on how these guys fight and feed that data back to the others...okay, fuck it.
Understanding full well that he wouldn't be able to keep track of all the fighting with just his senses alone, Zhen Liu activated several of the zako marbles in his pocket and had them take the form of small creatures so that they could act as his eyes on the battlefield.
Thankfully, all of the [Chaos] flying about made his actions unnoticeable.
'Alright, little ones. Keep an eye on the battlefield and help me see how these assholes fight.'
Once he had given this simple directive, Zhen Liu sent the zakos to observe how the so-called Demon Knights fought.
'Alright, let's see if my match-ups were accurate...'
...The Ignorant...
Delictum and his entourage hovered in the air as he watched his poor land bound comrades engage with the ambushers like brutes.
None of these strange attackers seemed to have the ability to fly as far as Delictum knew, and he was more than happy in never finding out.
After all, the longer they were [Ignorant] of his existence, the more likely Delictum and his flock could swoop in for the glory.
[Steady as she goes, my pretties. Wait until someone tries something sneaky and clever, then drop in like a guillotine...like now!]
From Delictum's point of view, he saw a pair of rock-skinned warriors attempt to smash in the skull of one of Gumba's subordinates.
As such, he decided to drop in like a falling pan, grab the bastards by their heads with a pair of giant owl-like claws and lift them high into their air.
Once they were brought up high, Delictum tossed them forward before chasing after them and slicing straight through their necks.
If these zakos were normal warriors, then Delictum would've destroyed their heads. But alas, these zakos simply disappeared into particles of [Chaos].
[Awww, too bad. I wanted to deny the world whatever knowledge they had myself. Oh well.]
If a certain pair of spirits heard Delictum's words, they would go mad with rage.
[Ah well, time to wait for the next opportunity.]
...The Oppressor...
[Bahahahah! Such fun! What fun!]
Slavina lashed out with viney tendrils like they were whips, and the enemy zakos were nothing more than juicy targets to express her twisted love.
Granted, this was only part of her fighting style.
[D'awww! Don't fight it darling, just let my thorns dig in and let the poison do its thing...]
Slavina didn't just use her vines like wild whips, she also used her roots to dig deep into the earth and then ensnare her beloved targets, locking them down and making it so that they had no choice but to take all of her oppressive love for however long she wanted them to.
The ensnared zako tried their best to break free, thrashingly wildly at the vines and roots holding them in place.
Alas, it was all for naught.
[How peculiar. It appears my brand of Chaos is able to take control of these naughty little raiders...I wonder if I should though...]
...The Drowned...
[Hehehe! Pop! Pop! Pop!]
With a heavy stomp, Gumba created a sickening swamp of [Chaos]-infused mud that not only slowed the zakos' movements down to a crawl.
No, it was even slower than a crawl.
The zakos sank into the ground until only their upper torso was left exposed to the air.
Once they were stuck in this state, Gumba and his slimy cohorts would walk up to them and smash them into bloody pulps.
Unlike his compatriots, that made of externally heavy weapons and fists in order to break in their enemies, Gumba opted to go go for the simple act of stepping on them.
[Hehehe! Call apart for me, little ones. Fall!]
Evidently, Gumba's desires had managed to beat out the fact that his creator had ordered him to hold back in capturing one of these unusual attackers.
...The Hater...
[Disgusting. Truly, disgusting.]
Obsidious watched with growing displeasure as he watched his subordinates fight the enemy combatants.
Oddly enough, though, his disgust wasn't aimed towards the enemies attacking them. Rather, his distate and hate was aimed towards his own allies.
In his eyes, this subordinates were failing to live up to his expectations.
They were breathing flames, but failed to channel their inner rage.
They were inflicting burning wounds, but didn't seem to have the distate for their victims occur in a natural way.
In other words, [Those Who Hate,] were still a long way away from being a group that was worthy of following in his footsteps.
[Alright, step back, you bastards!] Obsidious shouted as he began to approach the nearest group of enemy zakos. [Let me show you how you're supposed to kill these bastards.]
[Oh shit!]
[Captain on deck! Everyone, clear space!]
Despite all having traits related to the ability to wield fire, the kaijin under Obsidious's command all made sure to give the rat bastard a wide berth.
After all, they knew better than most, just how painful those [Flames of Hatred,] burned.
And just how brutal Obsidious fought.
[Die, you motherfuckers, die!]
Obsidious proceeded to grab one of the nearest zakos and repeatedly stab it in the chest with one of his flame-coated hands, multiple times.
The first blow was definitely fatal, as it had went right through the chest, but that didn't stop Obsidious from doing so at a least a dozen more times in order to make sure that his opponent was dead.
Immediately after the first zako began to dissolve from the vicious attack, Obsidious already moved on to the next, opening up with a vicious bite to the throat and a vicious application of flames.
[Burn for me!]
...That's all folks...
'Oookay...these elites fought how I expected...more or less,' Zhen Liu concluded as he watched how all four of Dante's Demon Knights fought through the eyes of his zako. 'But why do I feel like there's something more to this shit than meets the eye?'
If there's one thing Zhen Liu was more familiar with than Kaijin, it was the act of holding back in order to fuck with people's perception.
Right now, watching these so-called elite Demon Knights fight, Zhen Liu couldn't help but get the distinct impression that every single last one of them was holding back something.
Perhaps it was due to their opponents being nothing more than literal cannon fodder, but the abilities that they were showcasing barely scratched the surface of their powers.
Hell, as soon as this thought popped into his head, Dante had fucking confirmed.
^Such bad habits my demon knights have,^ Dante mused like an abusive father watching his children play.^They only seem to get serious whenever they want to try and devour one of their kin. And here I thought they would go all out on an enemy lord...'
[...]
Needless to say, Zhen Liu was all but happy to hear these words of confirmation.
