Kaijin Fighter: So I Have to Make Monsters, So What?

Chapter 1327: ...And sometimes discover terrible truths

=Okay, it looks like Razorstella, Springerdermain, and Screamira are about to enter the unusual cavern...hey, Pathos, does this cavern seem familiar to you? Because the records we have this place seem too incomplete for a proper report.=

<...>

=Pathos?=

As the Kaijin were doing their best to sneakily scope out the [Mines of Malevolence], and Zhen Liu was busy pretending to be a sycophantic curator, the actual curators of the [Library of Nowhere] were busy monitoring and analyzing everything that they could through their hindered connection.

Due to Zhen Liu's accident, the connection between the [Library of Nowhere] and the kaijin had become increasingly strained by the day.

For the time being, it was still enough for them to transmit real-time information back to the library. However, Logos and Pathos were unable to send back the massive packets of information they were used to sending through Zhen Liu.

That stated, they could still technically read through the books themselves and verbally inform the kaijin of any important tidbits of information.

It was kind of inefficient, but it worked.

Unfortunately, this also required the curators to put in a touch more effort in summarizing the information to be easily repeatable.

Which was hard to do when one of them was distracted.

At this point in time, the curators had finished their lessons with Jasper and Janice for the day, and they were both holed up in the Library's central control room, so there was no good reason for Pathos to be distracted by anything. At least, that's what Logos thought until he saw what Pathos was in the middle of doing.

=Pathos, I swear to the formless pool of madness we manifest from, if you're in the middle of another hardcore gaming session while we're in the middle of work, I'm going to...what the fuck?=

<What am I missing...>

As shape shifting spirits who's been around longer than recorded history, there wasn't a lot that the duo could do to surprise one another.

This was an exception.

Taking a page from several pieces of media that they extracted from Zhen Liu's memories, Pathos had used some [Chaos] to create a giant cork board the size of a garage door and was covered in pictures and lines of color-coded string.

=Oh...oh no...=

The last time Logos remembered Pathos being this organized about something, it involved the Devout Heretic and the entire annihilation of the Omni Aetherii's home island.

As far as she remembered, the Omninarii were still around, but their numbers were significantly smaller than when they attempted their genocidal invasion of the world.

Regardless, Logos needed to know why Pathos had decided to create a giant corkboard.

Studying the board, Logos could see that the main pictures consisted of the Voyager probe that served as Dante's source of power, a portrait of the Star Caller, a portrait of Dante, and that weird fuzzy thing that they were unable to identify but had served as being the catalyst in reuniting the kaijin with their lord's cousin.

From what the Kaijin reported, it was a weird box-sheep...thing.

Either way, this was all very organized and worrying to Logos, since it came from Pathos.

=Pathos, what are you up to?=

<Huh? Oh, hey Logos. Just...trying to organize my thoughts.>

=I can see that...dare I ask, what are you trying to figure out?=

<Why the Star Caller deleted this particular entry from our memories,> Pathos answered while pointing a finger at the picture of the Voyager probe. <I've been using our current Lord's knowledge to figure out why, but I'm getting a massive blank.>

=I see...wait, what? What do you mean deleted?=

<Check it.>

With a wave of her hand, Pathos dismissed the corkboard in a shimmer of light particles, replacing it with a series of illusionary scrolls.

Each of the scrolls had labels indicating that they were the records of previous Kaijin Lords.

With a snap of their fingers, the scrolls unfurled one after the other.

Upon each scroll was a portrait of a previous Kaijin Lord, alongside a list of dated entries that detailed their daily moments with highlighted entries being considered the most important.

It should be noted that a majority of the highlighted entries consisted mostly of days when a Kaijin was created.

Swirling his finger in the air, Pathos brought forward a quartet of scrolls.

<For the sake of comparison, check out these records compared between the Star Caller, the Damned Drunkard, the Storm Queen, and Devour Heretic.>

=Speaking of the Drunkard, is it just me or does it seem like that guy hasn't done much since he's been crashing here?=

<To be fair, I think that might change now that our current lord has been increasing the amount of death-related Kaijin under his purview.>

=Fair enough.=

Zhen Liu was familiar with the Damned Drunkard and Storm Queen, and he had even claimed their legacies. As such, their list of records were fully unredacted.

In comparison, due to Zhen Liu having her to claim their legacies in any meaningful capacity yet, the records of the Star Caller and the Devout Heretic were full of redacted entries.

To Logos, this was to be expected.

=Okay, so we have redacted information on these lords. That's normal. Our memories of them get partially sealed every time they die and get replaced.=

<See, I had thought that too, until I noticed this.>

Making a flicking gesture, the scrolls containing the data of the Damned Drunkard, the Invulnerable Storm Queen, and the Devout Heretic were dismissed in an instant.

At the same time, the scroll containing the Star Caller's data began to roll until it stopped at a particular point in the dated entries.

<Take a look.>

=What are you...what the fuck?=

To an outsider looking in, they would only be able to see scrambled letters with the only readable portion of the scroll being the dates these entries were made.

This was when Logos finally realized that Pathos was trying to figure out.

<That...that ain't right.>

=Right?!=

As spirits of knowledge, Logos and Pathos made it a point to record every moment that their charges lived through.

Every day, every week, every month and year was meticulously dated with what they did at whatever time.

Whomever they loved, whomever they hated, whatever battles they fought, Logos and Pathos made sure to record it all.

As such, noticing that there was a deleted day in their records was enough to piss them off.

Especially when combined with the fact that this date was somehow deleted a near century ago without their notice.

=How the fuck did we not notice this?! Our organizational skills are impeccable!=

<That's the thing, we didn't notice because our system is too good.>

=What?=

<Run a check of the Star Caller's records right now.>

=Okay...=

Focusing their mind to the library's inner workings, Logos parsed through every single bit of information in relation to the aforementioned Kaijin Lord.

It didn't take him that long to perform this task, but that's when he noticed the oddity.

=Okay, our records indicate that everything is present, but I'm clearly seeing that we are missing an important piece of data! How?!=

<As far as I can tell, Star Caller managed to keep the bit of information that marked something had occurred, but removed the data bits that matter: the details,> Pathos explained. <That or...it involves that Dante guy...>

=The Fake Lord? What about him has to do with this?=

<Remember what he said about seeing the Star Caller go in and out of a cave that would become the future Mines of Malevolence?>

=Yes.=

<Well, I tried to reference that date to our database and that's when I noticed this discrepancy. Hell, this also explains why we didn't recognize that weird probe when we saw it. It was slaet of the data that got erased.>

=Okay, I can't believe I'm the one asking you this, but what does this mean?=

<Well ..either the Star Caller managed it remove this data herself and had a fairly good reason for doing so,> Pathos explained. <Or Dante's claim of being a Kaijin Lord may not be entirely off basis.>

At this latter statement, Logos had this wide-eyed look of shock.

=What are you saying?=

<I'm saying...if the the unthinkable happens and our current lord dies, then there's a very good chance that we don't go back into hibernation. Instead, that jackass becomes our new lord.>

=I...oh.=

As curators of the library, they were supposed to be neutral parties who showed zero favoritism to any of their lords, past, present or future.

However, it would be dishonest of them not to say that they greatly preferred their current lord over the possible future Lord Dante.

Something about him irked them.

=Alright, last I checked, our lord was travelling in a palanquin with that False Lord. Best case scenario, he cracks his head open with a hammer before the worst happens.=

<Let's hope he does so soon.>
