Chapter 1280: Victory...
[Vorpal Cutter!]
Instead of answering Piercer's question, Lythero simply slashed through one of his needle covered wings with his [Astra].
Piercer didn't bother to coat his wings in any protective layers of [Chaos] or aether, because he could only sense the aether coming off of Lythero's person.
Based on his past experiences, the aether of rebellious slaves would simply roll off of his body like rain against a stone. As such, he assumed the same would happen here.
[AAAH!]
Instead, Piercer found himself screaming in pain as Lythero's blades slashed through his flesh and left horrible burning wounds on his right wing.
[You little punk! Step off!]
Enraged by the wound, Piercer pumped his wing full of [Chaos] before flapping it in an attempt to send Lythero flying...alongside several choice needles and feathers with the aim of pinning the bastard down long enough so that he could shove a talon into his brain.
Unfortunately, he ended up hitting nothing but air and mist.
[What the fuck?!]
The moment his feathers and needles impacted Lythero, the man exploded into a shower of colorful light particles.
Rage and confusion blinded Piercer in this moment, so badly it hung over his head like a giant shadow.
...
Wait a minute.
[Why is it suddenly so much dark—]
[Heavy Iron Guillotine!]
Thunk!
Before Piercer could even finish his thought, he was summarily bisected by Lythero as he swung down his [Black Iron Slab] right down the middle from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet.
[Guh...gah...gack.]
'What the fuck just deflected my blade.
The cut, however, wasn't completely clean.
Part way through the cutting the Kaijin down the middle, his sword had suddenly veered off to the right.
Not enough that the blade would change direction completely and end with Lythero slicing off a chunk of Piercer's torso, but just enough that there was a weird bump in the slice line that went vertically down his body.
'Huh...'
Poof!
"What the..."
Shortly after Lythero had landed the finishing blow, Piercer's body had dispersed like a smoke cloud while leaving behind a strange golden ball that reminded Lythero of a Kaijin [Core].
Although, this core looked...weird.
'What the fuck?'
______________
[Guh! You...humming...burning...bastard!]
^That's what I am, but not who I am,^
Olstenna retorted in a melodic voice as he kept shuffling his feet.
[How are you...hurting me?!]
^Fuck you, that's how.^
While locked up in the [Library of Nowhere], Olstenna had learned that Kaijin, Zhen Liu and [Chaos] related beings in general were weak against music-based aether arts, dragon force and Buddhists.
However, two out of three of these solutions were inaccessible to the Aetherii warrior either due to personal reasons or practicality.
Acquiring dragon force would be difficult, as an appropriately powerful source would be a difficult opponent. Not only that, but dragon force had been known to have a corruptive affect on Aetherii.
Olstenna was already battle hungry, he didn't want to become completely brainless.
As for becoming a Buddhist...no.
Olstenna was far too materialistic and violent to ever give that all up in the pursuit of enlightenment. Although, he had heard of a sect of Buddhism that pursued enlightenment through violence but that seemed unnecessary.
Understanding this fact about himself, Olstenna decided to pursue learning about musical aether arts despite believing himself tone death.
Evidently, he was wrong.
Turned out that while he couldn't play an instrument, he could carry a tune when it came to something called "military cadence".
And while the effect was weak, humming these tunes allowed his attacks to negate the innate [Chaos] defenses of Kaijin and the like.
Which was why Clobber was looking positively miserable as his horns, his skull and most of his body was now a bloody mess.
Or whatever it was that kaijin bled when horribly injured.
Regardless, Olstenna had proven to both himself that his idea had merit. Now, he just needed to deliver the coup de grace.
[Berserker's Fist of Annihilation!]
With one devastating blow, Olstenna absolutely destroyed Clobber's torso, leaving nothing but a golden core.
'Wait... that didn't feel right.'
______________
[Huh...]
[This is...]
[Weird?]
[Strange.]
[Guh...guh...]
When Porcelain Doll and Corpse Doll started fighting Ripper, they had managed to out dance the malevolent monkey despite his best efforts.
To his credit, he had plenty of tricks that caused his arms and hands to grow and stretch in a variety of ways, allowing him to attack from weird angles.
Unfortunately, Porcelain Doll and Corpse Doll were too well coordinated for such clumsy movements to work.
But that wasn't the only reason why Ripper was laid low in such an undignified manner.
[Oh look! He's switching faces again!]
[Huh. And changing shape, too.]
Porcelain Doll and Corpse Doll had figured out that the best way for them to defeat their enemies was to cycle aether between the two of them in order to create a constant flow of blessings and curses throughout their opponents in order to disrupt and distort their internals.
This cycling, however, had a very strange effect on Ripper.
At first, it wasn't noticable as the only effect it seemed to have was to slow Ripper's movements.
However, that began to change once the twins had managed to land over a dozen or so blows.
As more and more energy cycled through the enemy Kaijin, his body began to spasm, twitch, grow and shrink at random points.
Their features began to rapidly change like living clay and their aura even began to flicker through multiple iterations, as if they couldn't figure out what kind of powers they truly had.
Eventually, this led to Ripper to fall over and stop fighting altogether.
The proto-kaijin twins were, understandably, confused by this sudden change.
However, they managed to figure out an idea after watching Ripper trip out for a couple more minutes.
[Hey, sis. Fully formed Kaijin like the others don't expose their cores to the open air, right?] Porcelain Doll asked.
[We're not supposed to when we get those, but I don't know to be honest,] Corpse Doll admitted. [I think we'll figure it out when we finally get one.]
[Then should we shove that core back inside him?]
[Maybe.]
Jutting out of Ripper's chest, was a small golden orb that appeared to be covered in a bunch of faces.
By instinct, the twins could tell that this golden orb was supposed to be a [Core].
But those same instincts determined that there was something deeply...wrong with this core.
They just couldn't figure out what it was exactly.
[Hang on...take a closer look at the core. Doesn't it look kind of funny?] Porcelain Doll asked.
[It...does! What a peculiar texture! It reminds me of what happens when you squish different types of sticky candies together and roll them into a ball!] Corpse Doll noted.
[What do you think would happen if we pull apart the sphere?] Porcelain Doll followed up. [Wait, do you think Caretaker will mind if we do?]
[I don't think so,] Corpse Doll answered. [He didn't seem to fond about that weird snake Kaijin the others fought earlier. Maybe that means he won't get mad if we take apart this core?]
[In that case...]
Encouraged by her sister's words, Porcelain Doll reached out to the core with the intent of pulling it apart.
Figuring out her intention, Corpse Doll grabbed the other side.
[On three?]
[Three!]
______________
[S-stay back! Stay back!] Mauler began to cry in a voice that was decidedly more cowardly sounding in comparison to his previous bravado.
Not that the Kaijin surrounding him cared about this in the slightest.
Learning the selfishly cruel nature of Mauler and his ilk, the fact that cannibalism and fratricide was their norm disgusted them to levels that they didn't think was possible till this moment.
As such, they were more than willing and happy to just tear this guy limb from limb and return his existence to the void of [Chaos] from where they all spawned.
A task that would be incredibly easy given that Mauler was impaled to the ground and...wait a minute.
'Why doesn't it feel like his [Chaos] is diminishing in the slightest?' Zhen Liu soon realized as the Kaijin were closing in on the bastard.
Zhen Liu had yet to feel what it was like for any of his Kaijin to die, but he had plenty of experience of feeling them get absolute drained of [Chaos] and getting horribly injured.
He had felt zakos die multiple times.
And when he tried to tap into Constrictor's mind, he could feel what a Kaijin felt when they absorbed others or got absorbed.
As such, Zhen Liu was rather confused as to why he was sensing that Mauler's [Chaos] was changing as opposed to getting weaker.
But then it happened.
[Stay back! Stay—]
[Well, well, well! Looks the noobie can't handle being in the driver's seat!] Mauler's porcupine shoulder-face suddenly yelled out. [I guess it's my turn to take over!]
[What the fuck?!]
